Madden NFL 17 News Post

EA Sports has improved accessibility in Madden NFL 17 with larger icons, colorblind support, 5 levels of brightness/contrast and more. If you want to request other accessibility options, make sure to tweet the team here.

Any in-world icon that is prompting user interaction (pass, catch, tackle battle, etc.) will be about twice as big. Augmented UI banners will gracefully enlarge, but will still be prevented from filling too much of the screen. The kick meter is larger and it pins itself to the screen, instead of being placed in the world. These changes have been tested by internal Madden NFL developers that also have vision issues, such as macular degeneration.

We estimate that over half a million current Madden NFL users are colorblind*. Bright primary colors are used all over Madden NFL, so there were issues with many menus and on-field art. Filters seemed to be a great way to go, as they cover the entire game, including all menus. Red, green, and blue weak colorblindness are all supported and tested, with great results.

That's nice that they are making it easier for people to play the game.

This is great. Other games have done this and it's good to see them stepping up to implement this stuff. Only change I would change is maybe allowing options for specific items. I don't have vision issues but I like the way the big kick meter looks and wouldn't mind using that by default.

I'm going to send them a lot of positive feedback over this. We need to really praise them for considering visually impaired people. I hope this helps you enjoy the game more.

great additions. I like the larger icons because I'm getting older and like to play sitting on the couch further back. I am also color blind and am looking forward to using the color blind feature.

I also love the addition of brightness and contrast settings.

So glad EA is adding more options. Hopefully they add more for sliders too.

Yea this is a great move. I wonder if playing with those brightness and contrast settings, the in-game lighting would look better. Can't wait to try it out

Good on the dev team for this! The more options, the better.

I'm wondering the same thing, maybe it can give the on field graphics more of a pop that it needs.

Obviously a joke. Really nice that they did this and kind of makes you wonder why nobody else has. Seems (to me a non programmer) to be easy enough.
Your joke wasn't funny.

That's not the point.

The point is that adding resources for the disabled has NOTHING to do with your draft board and there's nothing funny about insinuating otherwise.

I've been going back and forth on this. Yeah it makes it easier to see but having it small may make the kicking game a little harder.

The more options, the happier I am. Good job!

Kinda seems like a good move, but I'd actually like to see the icons under the players feet because of how big they are and triangle seems to be blocking a defender to some degree.

i think this is great for people with these vision problems.

This thread is not for the validation on whether he should be performing at the next comedy def jam.

As a visually impaired person, this may be the best news from EA on Madden before CFM. And seeing how many others are inpaired, it feels like we should start a club haha.

I absolutely hate graphic cluttering my screen when playing sports games. We should have the ability to choose the size of the icons at least.

Larger icons is a giant 'con' for me, personally.

This is an option...
