Madden NFL 17 News Post

A new commentary team featuring Brandon Gaudin (play-by-play) and Charles Davis (color commentary and analysis) will replace Jim Nantz and Phil Simms in Madden NFL 17. The team will be able to add new commentary to the game throughout the entire season.

Quote:
Today EA Tiburon revealed the new commentary team that will be calling the games in Madden NFL 17. Brandon Gaudin will be the new voice providing play-by-play, with Charles Davis adding color commentary and analysis. Thanks to unprecedented access to Davis and Gaudin, Madden NFL 17 will ship with the most commentary ever at launch. This year’s game also features the opportunity to add commentary updates throughout the NFL season on Xbox One and PlayStation®4.

Brandon Gaudin will be joining the Big Ten Network as a play-by-play announcer this fall after being the Voice of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets since 2013. Additionally, he has been named the lead college football play-by-play voice for Westwood One Sports, and will also call occasional NFL games for the network. Gaudin will continue to serve as one of the voices for Westwood One’s coverage of men’s basketball, including conference championship week and the NCAA Tournament.

Charles Davis is best known for his work on the NFL Network and NFL on FOX. This past season he could be seen providing analysis each week during NFL on FOX broadcasts, as well as providing extensive coverage of the NFL Draft on NFL Network. Davis is known for his meticulous and detailed knowledge of the NFL, which he will bring to the Madden NFL 17 broadcast booth.

They're going to be updating commentary on the fly. Davis and Gaudin will be down at EA every week recording new lines throughout the season.

Weekly commentary updates, surely means some kind of 'play the season' or something.

Love all the foley stuff.

I love it.

I knew EA would never go the NFL 2k path and get two voice actors to do the commentary but Gaudin and Davis are free enough to do hours more recording than Nantz and Simms wouldve been. Simms is calling 2 games a week and Nantz has other commitments like Basketball and Golf taking his time.

Gaudin also has a pretty good announcers voice and I love the fact that the commentary will be updated.

I like this, instead of working around Nantz and Simms schedules. You can spend more time getting unique lines with someone not as big.

They'll be able to talk about guys who break out this year or who are late round picks who they may not have done commentary lines for prior to the season too. I really like it.

This is a great video. It makes me think CFM will have something similar to NBA Live I think or maybe it was 2K or The Show where you play alongside the actual results from the real NFL. I don't know how else updating commentary with things like what they talk about would even be relevant. Some of the spots they played definitely sounded good in the video but I feel like that's been the case before. The updating weekly part is HUGE and could be something great if they manage to do it right.

YESSSSSS

This is something madden has always lacked. I guess that is what MADDEN 365 is!!

Its madden's equivalent to the show live..nba 2k today.
This is great news!!
Love that they went for these 2 guys. They will have time to really make it great.

Its gonna be great to have updated stats and commentary throughout the season. I wonder if you will be able to play live games.. like if KC is play Den and its 48 degrees and cloudy... I HOPE WE CAN!

Just have a few questions though. Will they be recording more lines during the season other than just what happens the past week in the NFL? Also will those updates be in a persons Franchise mode or is it just for a play a season type of game mode?

I really like that they added a new commentary team. I just hope that they have recorded a lot of lines so you won't hear the same thing after one season.

well that's what I'm talkin bout. We're getting closer to this game not getting as stale so soon. You gotta give the devs for the props for the work they've put in. I don't remember the last time we've seen so many new additions in one year that are game changing

They mentioned if a guy came through the supplemental draft as an example so I'd imagine they'll add new lines based on all sorts of things. Say a big trade happens (made up example: Drew Brees to the Browns) they could talk about Brees being traded when they talk about him.

Or if a player comes over from another sport (it's rare but someone like Hayne last year) they could talk about him. This kind of thing can really help make the game feel current and make it a better experience.

Yeah, this is actually a great idea/addition, but strangely, as I just posted in another thread, for me, regardless of who's doing commentary, I have always preferred to turn it off, because I want to feel like I'm on the field playing the game, not at home watching the game. So, for me, I hope the sound effects have been improved and whatnot. And, I'll turn on the commentary for a few games to see what it's all about. For people who want commentary, I think this is great. Weekly updated vocal recordings should keep the commentary fresh all season.

Using your example I'm going to probably guess that the updated lines will only be for Madden 365 that was mentioned before.

Just so you guys understand how far in development this team is planning, I knew about this except for the weekly updates and who it was going to be since the first time I went down there Feb 2015, glad i don't have to keep the no more Nantz and Simms a secret anymore! It's been a long wait to find this out!!

I'm not so sure. If you start a franchise with week 8 rosters and Brees is on the Browns then they could talk about Brees being traded for example. I think it'll be used throughout the game.

Hopefully that means they have a lot of lines ready.
