Legendary WCW and WWE star Bill Goldberg arrives in WWE 2K17 to Spear and Jackhammer the competition! His unprecedented 173-0 win streak in WCW from 1997 to 1998 made an enormous impact with fans and spawned the catchphrase, “Who’s Next?” Goldberg collected top titles in both companies, including the WCW World Heavyweight Championship, WWE World Heavyweight Championship, WCW United States Heavyweight Championship and WCW World Tag Team Championship alongside WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart. His final appearance in a WWE ring was against Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania XX more than 12 years ago.

“Who’s Next?” – 2K Announces Bill Goldberg as WWE® 2K17 Pre-Order Bonus

WCW® and WWE® legend, film and television personality and former NFL defensive tackle
featured as two playable characters in upcoming edition of flagship WWE video game franchise

2K today announced that legendary WCW® and WWE® star Bill Goldberg will make his virtual return in WWE® 2K17, the forthcoming release in the flagship WWE video game franchise. Best known for his unprecedented 173-0 singles competition win streak in WCW from 1997 to 1998, Goldberg will appear in WWE 2K17 through two playable characters representing his WCW and WWE personas. The playable characters, along with two playable arenas – WCW Monday Nitro and Halloween Havoc – will be available as bonus content for those who pre-order the game at participating retailers for the PlayStation®4 and PlayStation®3 computer entertainment systems, as well as Xbox One and Xbox 360. WWE 2K17 is currently scheduled for worldwide release in October 2016.

“After 12 years away from the business, I’m incredibly honored to work with WWE and 2K while following in the footsteps of such greats as Ultimate Warrior, Sting and Arnold Schwarzenegger,” said Goldberg. “My son was a big part of this coming together, and I can’t wait for him to see his dad kicking *** in a WWE ring through the magic of video games. I encountered the likes of The Rock, Triple H, Brock Lesnar and Ric Flair during my WWE career, and now through WWE 2K17, I’ll be taking on the biggest and baddest Superstars of today – showing them once and for all that I am still ‘Da Man!’”

During his WCW and WWE career, Goldberg held several notable championships, including the WCW World Heavyweight Championship, WWE World Heavyweight Championship, WCW United States Heavyweight Championship and WCW World Tag Team Championship alongside WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart. In 1998, as a result of his in-ring success and growing popularity, WCW began counting Goldberg’s consecutive wins on television. In addition, his popular catchphrase, “Who’s Next?” quickly caught on with fans and in part defined his career.

Following his WWE retirement in 2004, Goldberg appeared in a number of films, including The Longest Yard and Universal Soldier: The Return. He also remained a national television fixture, joining the ninth season cast of the popular NBC reality series, The Celebrity Apprentice, and serving as host of Garage Mahal for two seasons on DIY Network. In addition to his film and television endeavors, Goldberg served as a color commentator for several mixed martial arts promotions and developed his own podcast, Who’s Next with Goldberg, via PodcastOne. Goldberg was inducted into the Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 2010.

“Goldberg’s return to WWE action through two WWE 2K17 playable characters, along with the WCW Monday Nitro and Halloween Havoc arenas, collectively delivers a unique opportunity to experience one of WWE’s true living legends,” said Chris Snyder, Vice President of Marketing at 2K. “Fans can now relive many of their favorite Goldberg moments, as well as create brand new ones, as they decide ‘Who’s Next?’ in the virtual ring.”

Developed collaboratively by Yuke’s and Visual Concepts, a 2K studio, WWE 2K17 is not yet rated by the ESRB. WWE 2K17 is currently scheduled for worldwide release on the PS4™ and PS3™ systems, Xbox One and Xbox 360 in October 2016.

he will be part of my old school universe. I do this every year with the historical roster, create an old school universe to play.

I'll use him part time. I keep legends on the sideline until I have an awesome must see rilvary or a title run.

If part of this year's focus is adding a bunch of WCW content, all I can say is they already have my hard-earned cash.

I'll be getting this one for sure and will get it digitally again as I'm still playing 16 from time to time so I'm sure I'll play this one for awhile.

I would assume that it would be Halloween Havoc '98, since the Goldberg/DDP Heavyweight CHampionship match from that event is widely considered to be Goldberg's best match. (2K16's DLC used Halloween Havoc '96.)

I wouldn't have been surprised if it was him since they've been all about making him look strong lately. However, I'd rather it be someone that has to do with the possible showcase. Brock would make more sense because they could do Ruthless Aggression era or something.

Edit: I really don't like how WWE 2K devs are "in the dark" when it comes to communicating with us. I'm not sure if any are active on Twitter, and the community manager barely tweets anything. Would just be nice to get a little dialog with them at least.

Yah, I hope it's Rollins myself. Lesnar is more than likely who it will be though. They normally announce at Sunmerslam right?

WWE 12 Pre-Order: The Rock(Returned Feb 2011, announced as Pre-Order DLC July 2011)

WWE 13 Pre-Order: Mike Tyson(Inducted into HOF April 2012, Announced as Pre-Order June 2012)

WWE 2K14: Ultimate Warrior(Announced as Pre-Order Bonus July 2013, Inducted into HOF April 2014)

WWE 2K15: Sting(Announced as Pre-Order Bonus July 2014, Made WWE Debut November 2014)

WWE 2K16: Arnold Schwarzenegger(Inducted into HOF April 2015 and announced as Pre-Order July 2015)

WWE 2K17: Goldberg(Announced May 30th 2016, Possible return/HOF Induction to come in 2017?)

Every Pre-Order Bonus for the last few years has had something to do with a return(or in Sting's case Debut) of HOF Induction(Arnie and Tyson), smart marketing by WWE if you ask me. Get fans hyped about someone through a video game before they show up on WWE TV. Gives me hope for Angle next year lol.

If he does come back, it can't be against Brock Lesnar, it just can't. Not Ryback too, as I wouldn't let "Staph Infection" Rybotch to work with a legend.
If you ask me, I would love to see Jack Swagger or Curtis Axel against him, as both of them are incredibly talented and deserve something like that. But considering it's never going to happen, if he does come back it's probably against Brock

There are some really solid Hogans out there, just sucks that you can't get his entrance motion or taunts, and it really sucks that you can't import theme music (on PS4).

MLB the show was able to include importing mp3 music for the game on PS4, if the other companies check out how they did it, it should be pretty simple. In theory. That was the best part of the old wrestling games, the customizability in all areas.

Not that I expected this from a pre-order announcement, and having Goldberg back in the game is quite nice, but I'm not interested in WWE 2K17 until I see a whole lot more, most notably in the games-as-a-service department.

Gating any characters behind a pre-order wall doesn't exactly give me hope for sweeping changes to how this series conducts its business, however.

He signed a deal with 2K not a talent/legends contract with WWE.

Being that the games are usually based around the prior year's Wrestlemania, Do you think 2K17 will include the brand split and bring back GM Mode? I know you can technically make Universe Mode that way but having a tangible goal such as ratings or fans would be helpful in keeping interested as the universe continues on.
