DiRT Rally News Post

Although many consider the racing genre to be a niche genre in the video game industry, it definitely has produced some incredible titles over the years. If you take that mindset one step further, then rally racing would be considered the ultimate niche sport. While not nearly as popular as some of the other circuit racers like F1 and NASCAR, rally racing’s fan base is smaller but definitely not any less loyal or supportive.

Codemasters, the developers of Dirt Rally, have often been described as a champion of dirt racing with its previous Dirt titles, and seems to have created something special again with Dirt Rally. While it may not overtake 1998’s Colin McRae Rally for some, it just might for others.

DIRT Rally is the best rally sim ever available on consoles in North America. The competition isn't even close.

Only Richard Burns Rally for the PC and European consoles is in the same conversation. RBR is such a brilliant game, considering it was released in 2003.

But DIRT Rally is the new king.

I really hope they add some more rallycross tracks. I'm having some white knuckle neck and neck photo finish races every time I play. It's a battle for the win. I love games like this. The A.I. won't take no crap either , if I'm in their way they do not hesitate to let me know. Between this game, Project Cars, and MXGP2 I'm in racing heaven.

I agree, but at the same time I feel like sometimes my car weighs significantly less than the AI vehicles. I get spun way more than they do.

For example, coming into a sweeping right hander, AI car on the outside, I carry a touch more speed in knowing I should be able to use them as a crutch. Instead, as we get door to door and I am using them as leverage they cut in on me and my car does a spin while they carry on like I was never there.

It doesn't work like this. IRL if they cut back in, momentum would push BOTH of our tail ends clockwise while each of us drifted towards the outside edge of the track. Instead it's like I get double the effect and the CPU suffers none of it, holds it's line and continues on as if nothing happened.

Everything can't be perfect sadly, other than that, this game is a blast.

I did that greek rally prologue while the game was installing and in the night race near the end, luckily!, I drifted into a rock and the lighting changed. When I crossed the finish line I realized I had smashed my left headlight. Came in 3rd overall with 4 15 sec penalties for flying off the track.

Here's hoping for more track dlc because the ones in the game are sweet, I just want more!

Anyone still playing this? I have finally had some time to practice and I am really getting into it.

I picked it up in before Black Friday and I still play it. It is a real challenge but great game.
