NBA 2K16 News Post

While most of its consumers were asleep, Visual Concepts quietly installed a server-side update on Saturday morning that changed the success rate of 3-pointers in NBA 2K16's 2K Pro-Am mode. These adjustments have allowed users to achieve a perfect "green" release from various spots along the 3-point line.

Earlier this month, Gameplay Director Mike Wang revealed that a "green" release in NBA 2K16 multiplies your shot's success rate by two. So if you take a jumper that's graded with a 40 percent probability of going in, and your timing is perfect, that chance of scoring increases to 80 percent.

It's tough man . We're not here playing 12 minutes a quarter , having to deal with fatigue , stifling defense , adjustments etc ... So missing open shots constantly felt forced .

I see the other side too , no one should be shooting 80% on threes as a team every game .

If the game is going the realistic shooting route then other things like loose balls, blocking , passes in traffic need to be adjusted as well.

Damn, so you guys saying shooting was changed were definitely on to something. For the guys that play offline, has this affected play against the cpu?

Do whatever you want, just don't touch the midranges again. For the love of all that's holy, don't touch the midranges again.

It favors certain shot releases and makes ratings irrelevant. I dont like it at all.

Mike said the shooting was changed in every mode. I haven't played MyCareer in a few weeks but I am pretty sure the CPU 3 point shot might be going in more. I hope it's wrong though, CPU already made too many 3s beforehand.

I agree. Please leave the midranges alone. Period.

I just wish Mike will just settle w/ something. Soon as you get used to something it'll be changed again. Either change it back to what it was or just leave it this way instead of trying something else. I prefer the previous but it's whatever.

It was fine the way it was a couple months ago. They went and made it too low then they made it too high when people asked for it to be raised.

Smh. It's wild they continue to mess with the mechanics of the game just because ppl complain. Who's been complaining about the 3s again? I just don't understand why they can't just leave well enough alone. It was actually pretty decent day 1. I haven't played in like 2 months but judging from things ppl are still saying shooting is too hard because they don't make every open shot. Then 2k changes percentages. It's just crazy man I don't really play anymore. It's like too much stuff changes from 1 week to the next and it's not fun.

Like if you start with a SG build him all the way up and are playing well and a patch comes out that makes him a little less effective than a PG it's going to ruin your whole experience because a few kids are not happy with their results. It's frustrating to play knowing that the things you succeed at will eventually be patched because ppl are losing to you. If you're cheesing they patch it and that's fine. But if you're just winning with strategy they patch it. If you don't make all your wide open shots, they patch it. Now you make too many contested shots. They patch it. Like come on man.

Well a few days ago when threads were popping up, it was just speculation with no confirmation. So yes, a few days ago, guys were onto something.

I knew it. I knew something was up. They did this last year and ruined my offline franchise and it's gonna happen again. Last year I still remember I was 33-30 before that terrible patch was released and then I finished the year off at 51-31, with ridiculous shooting percentages. Now this year I was 19-25 before Saturday. I've won my last 6 games. Something felt different. But I didn't see any patch downloaded as far as I could tell. But I guess it got snuck in there. Why? Again? You're gonna ruin my whole years worth of effort back to back years. That's so messed up. I want a challenge (already playing on hardest difficulty, not saying this to brag, I just like the challenge). I'll admit, it's not as bad as last year. Yet. But my 3 point % the past 6 games has gone up from about 35% to 45%. But it's enough to make a difference. Why could they just say they were gonna release this patch? I woulda kept my game disconnected from online so I could have avoided it. Now I'm screwed. Again. I'm never buying this game new again. I love bball, so I'm gonna get the best bball game out there, but I'm buying it used from now on. You ain't getting my money again after doing this to me 2 years in a row.

Yea... I need more playing time. But from the games I played. I don't use the release thing. I just use the timing. But I have notice I've been getting a lot of green releases. And more shots going down.

They tweaked the shooting again. It's no longer easy to get greens from 3-point range. It's much more rare but it can be done. Almost in between how it was a week ago and how it was over the weekend.

# 12 raidertiger @ 03/03/16 03:39 AM
Why can't we go back to the NBA 2k11/12 style of shooting? Where each release was different and unique in terms of timing, and most importantly didn't guarantee/near guarantee any shot going in. This shot meter is so arcade and symbolises 90% of 2ks philosophy since 2010.

# 13 Jrocc23 @ 03/03/16 04:20 AM
I promise you I am not exaggerating. And I am not saying overall but wide open 3s is definitely easier than Patch #4 in 2K15. I mean greens from 3 is the easiest it's ever been as far as having a open look.

Played about 10 games and every 3 was green besides one where I tried to step closer to the line. It's honestly like I am playing on rookie or pro as far as shooting.

# 14 Jrocc23 @ 03/03/16 06:03 AM
Before I decided to get off, I decided to go in a few games just shooting 3s. All the games before this (10 games), all my shot but one from 3 was green.

During the time I started recording, they wasn't all greens but believe me it was good 9/10 while taking some shots I consider not high %. I know some people will find an excuse for anything. But this is the easiest shooting I've ever seen on 2K. Just pertaining to being able to get a somewhat open shot off.

Here is a few vids of me just shooting when I felt I could get one off. No lie but I believe out of all the ones I took, I only missed one. Couldn't do it as much as I wanted because of randoms. But I'll try to get more footage tomorrow:

Long post so I'll spoiler it.

Spoiler

I figured something was wrong the day I woke up and saw a bunch of greens from behind the 3-line with an 85 shooter (his shot already gave me green releases when I was testing him months ago, but it was consistent that day). Same day, I played all-star team up with Anthony Davis and they gave me a wide open 3. Irish Spring Green.

As happy as I was making a green from the wing, a part of me said, this is not good. And long behold, it wasn't.

This is a screenshot of my buddy scoring 21 points off 3s - 7 for 10 all 3pt attempts. The opponent and matchup were admittedly terribly lacking in skill universally.

While he is a 6'1" Outside SG using one of the money releases "22": his success was still laughable lol. There have been numeral games (it gets repetitive) where he is simply cashing out on 3 after 3. It's not like he's playing any differently but his boldness and confidence is definitely juiced since the recent tweak was introduced.

I'll consider this an experiment for now and expect shot success to be further tweaked in the imminent future. If to my surprise it's not: I'll be fine - I'll just continue to be a relentless defender. It is going to get old quick though and is already starting to feel cheap.

Too much honey can make you sick and in this case: these greens aren't vegetable greens lol more like green jolly ranchers that stimulate and excite as they raise your sugar levels lol

Wide open shots should have a relatively easy green release. Shots contested or well-contested should be a lot tougher and shouldn't drop nearly as much, and they don't.

Shooting is fine the way it is, there are just tons of players who either can't or don't play any defense. Those dudes should be dropped-off. If you're a good player, and you're playing against a good opponent, those green releases will be a lot fewer and far between.

Reducing perfect releases gives average players more room for error on defense and less of a chance ever hitting shots consistently on offense. If 2K turns back the dial on perfect releases, expect to see a much larger percentage of players (especially on OS) complaining that they can't hit water if they fell out of a boat.

I think it has evened out. I still don't get them often and never on contested shots where someone is actually playing good defense. Why is it that I can only hit a green dot 3 from the corner? If I'm wide open other places I should also have the ability to. Only makes sense. My team plays good D. No one shoots over 60% on us. Period.

I am a balanced PG. My 3pt rating isn't even high and I feel like Steph Curry will most likely be in 2K17.

My boldness is too. I never just take 3s like that unless I am wide open off a pass. But now if I get a little space, it's good. I am just convinced a lot of people couldn't shoot before and since 2K made it easier are happy now.

Wasn't like you couldn't make open shots before the update. It'll be lowered again. No way Mike can leave it like this w/ how easy it is. People will start to see when they play against someone that could shoot easily pre update lol. So this has to feel like Pro to me and those people.

It's not about just being green. It's about the success rate. If I have a little space, it's most likely good; green or not. It's not all about playing good D. Yes that helps and the main thing but that doesn't mean people should almost make every shot because their open or even slightly open.

Few questions. What system are you on? Are you talking park or proam? If you're talking park you just told a lie. If you lost a game I am pretty sure someone shot 60% on you in a game to 21. If you couldn't get green at all in areas, have you checked your player card and hot zones? If not, you probably have grey or cold zones. If their hot and you still aren't getting open greens you just probably don't have good shooting ratings or can't shoot manually. There isn't a spot in the half court where it's impossible to get green.

When my online league (superstar sim) started to shoot three pointers at a 40% clip compared to a 35 the season before, it seemed surprising to me. Now I see it wasn't me obsessing about the %.

Please changes it back to what it was, or tell us what sliders we should use.
