Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR News Post

Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR title update 1.06 is available now for Xbox One and PlayStation 4. It weighs in at 7.5GB. The update adds TPC Stadium Course at PGA West as a playable course in Play Now, career, online head to head and online tournaments.

NOTE: The patch sizes are additive. So that 7 GB is everything we've released over the course of all patches. If you have all previous ones, then it only downloads what you don't have.

No other details were revealed. If we get any additional information on the title update, we will update this post. Let us know what you're seeing.

UPDATE: The course was the only thing added to the title update.

Playing this course shows a glaring issue with Rory.

One of the difficulties of this course is finding a flat spot to land your tee ball.

The fairways are very undulating. Rory captures that but not the penal nature of the next shot.

I would knock a drive out there and go oh no, I left myself a sidehill lie.

Then it would make no difference to ball flight or club selection. To such a degree I then just ignored where I hit it off the tee other than hitting it to a safe place in the short grass. But downhill uphill sidehill, none of that matters unlike real life.

IMO, it takes a pretty fair amount of practice as I felt the same way when the game first came out, but now I much closer to mastering the swing than before. Rory's swing is so much more challenging to me than that other game, but I also realize opinions vary.....

So what was the unannounced feature?
Where did you find this?

Challenging isn't the word I want to describe it as, it's definitely more difficult then the other game, to me it's just the tempo doesn't feel right to me. I feel like there is a pause at the top of the swing that is missing. I don't feel like I'm explain myself properly...you know in real life when you reach the top of your swing and there is that "heart beat' between your backswing and your downswing...that is what I feel is missing.

Also, I wish the slope on your lie affected ball flight more.

Those two things would push this game over the top for me.

I don't know of too many Pros who have ANY pause at the top of the backswing, sorry. I know my IRL swing doesn't either.....

One thing I hate about that "other game" is that the swing has so much lag in it and is not 1:1 and after the "swing gate" has zero tempo whatsoever. No risk/reward either. Painfully easy to hit every shot straight and sidehill lies in that game have little to no impact at all.

Not sure you are hitting too many slopes in RM because it is very pronounced, IMO. Not sure why you aren't seeing this unless it is off in the settings.

Good thing we have choices as I would hate for folks to be stuck playing a game they don't like......

Maybe the lie is off in my settings, I'll look. As for the pause at the top of the swing, I'm not explaining it right. There is that point between the backswing and your down swing, I can't explain it. That moment before you start to uncoil...I don't know, but I don't go from back swing to downswing instantaneously, then again I'm only a 12 handicap in real life so that could explain why the swing feels off. Maybe pros transition between back and down swing more quickly. I'll go back to the point where I said the swing feels too "flicky".

What you are describing is not a pause.

What it is, is actually moving in two directions at once.

If you have a good quality swing you began to unwind from the ground up slightly before you finish the backswing.

That is the magic in a golf swing and its an incredibly hard concept to get a learning golfer to understand.

When I teach I try to explain it like pitching in baseball which I also teach.
Batting doesnt work as well because the crossover does not occur the same way kinetically as pitching.

When you watch someone good hit a golf ball that fluidity that is so sexy is the harmonizing movement of the lower firing before the coil back finishes.

You can teach it to yourself by swinging the club horizontally like batting but higher, like shoulder height. Just exaggerate it, swing the club back and then before setting it in the backswing let the knees fire first to lead the swing back the other direction.

Soon it will feel just like cracking a whip. This is why some of those small guys on tour can still bang it out there.

BL8001,

Perfect explanation of what I was trying to explain. Thank you.

Definitely more challenging to hit the ball perfectly, but I'm sure I'll pick that up. What concerns me is that once I get the swing down, it seems that it will be really easy to hit the perfect distance every time, since you can basically just aim shorter if your yardage is between 2 clubs, and still take the same full swing.

Am I wrong about that? Seems crazy to me that partial swings are pretty much not a factor at all in this game. I don't mean any of this to come across as whining or trolling. I'm just trying to learn more about the game and my schedule this week has all but squashed my practice time. Thanks to all for any feedback or advice.

I like analog way more but I like three click in that you can actually hit shots a little offline. The analog I find easy to hit straight shot after straight shot.

I have noticed that distance control is way too easy as well. There are no variations, just full swings regardless with no real penalty.

I just wish that for errors in the swing that you would get slightly more punished. Yeah turning the wind up makes it more challenging but hitting shots offline shouldn't just be from wind.

I don't disagree but I will also say sidehill lies play a role in offline shots.....

Have not posted in a while but here our my settings and I'm having a blast with this game.

All hardest settings - Tour pro - Advanced lie - 3-click

Every tee shot and iron shot I hit square which maxes out the distance for the club. Then I decide what club to use. Only modification I use is the right stick to add or de-loft the club. I will not use the directional pad at all as its pretty much dial a distance.

On putting all I use is the grid. Using the grid gives you a little info and still makes the putting very realistic.

On chipping and pitching I do use the directional pad as it doesn't really matter much and it still keeps those shots fairly realistic.

Using these settings I shot a -4 on pga west last night and a +1 on quail hollow. A few nights ago I shot a -6 on quail. So ive found this fairly realistic for me.

I can't create new topics, so here is my question today:

I installed the recent patch (1.06) but this is the first patch that I have installed into my PS4 for this Rory game

Are all previous Updates automatically included with this update ?
Or did I miss out on all other previous updates ?

Also, am thinking of buying the digital version of this game on sale...
Will I still have the recent update installed (or need to re-install it ) ?

Thanks for any answers ...Sorry, am not knowledgeable of update procedures

The last update is all inclusive of previous updates.

If you buy the digital version it may come fully updated or you may just download the original version, then be prompted to update it to the latest version same as a disc version.
