EA Sports UFC 2 News Post

GamingBolt has posted an interview with Brian Hayes, Creative director for EA Sports UFC 2, as he provides some additional details on career mode, KO mode, UFC Ultimate Team and more. Also of note, the game runs at 1080p, rendering at 30FPS with motion blur. Read the entire interview here.

GamingBolt: What changes have been made to the Career mode over the first game? Are there any new features or challenges we can look forward to?

Quote:
Brian Hayes: Basically, everything that happens between receiving a Fight Offer and stepping inside the octagon for your fight has been overhauled. Players can now receive multiple opponents to choose from for their next fight. That can affect how long they have to train and obviously what type of opponent they are training for. Then the Training Camp system is entirely new. It incorporates the concepts camp quality (did you have a good camp a bad camp), training intensity (are you training hard or taking it easy), and the potential for training injuries or general wear and tear on your fighter’s ratings. We also added a new feature we’re calling “The Fight Game” which will throw you a curveball once in a while and can make your training camp tougher or easier. There is also a “boss battle” system when you finally match up against the big names in your division like Jose Aldo or Conor McGregor. In short, there are a lot of new features and challenges!

"UFC Ultimate Team is another entirely new experience for UFC gamers. Obviously, fighting is a 1-v-1 sport, so we’re not talking about some crazy team-based fighting mode. It’s a mode that lets you create up to 5 fighters, which would constitute your team (in MMA terms, think of it like Urijah Faber’s Team Alpha Male, or Jose Aldo and Team Nova Uniao). Then, each one of those fighters can fight to earn in-game coins that you use to purchase packs of upgrade items that can improve each fighter. There is a lot more customization of the individual athletes in UFC Ultimate Team compared to the UT modes you may be used to in FIFA, Madden or NHL."

Pretty much exactly how I hoped it would work. Seems similar to DD from MLB The Show, which is my favorite incarnation of "fantasy team" online play to date.

This excited me the most when asked about career mode....

The "boss battle" kind of worries me. I want a sim-style career mode, not one where the first time you fight a named fighter they get stat boosts and you're almost guaranteed a loss. But we'll see how it works out.

Boss Battle is a concern for me a bit, but hopefully its just their wording more than how the things will actually play out. I felt that there wasn't a lot of control and variance in the career mode with the first game. Nothing seemed different to me when I played through it a few times. I love having the option of your opponent. I never realized how much I would miss that from the Undisputed games. I just hope I can figure out the daggum ground game in the next one hahaha it gave me so many fits.

I hope we don't have to win TUF starting out. I'd be ok with being on the show starting out. Or even bringing back the UFC3 days when you fought for a WEC title and fighting for a UFC scouted fight or TUF scouted fight. Would be nice to have options early on and if go the TUF route what options a loss would bring. Overall I'm glad they've revamped career mode.

This has been announced already. You start in TUF but this year, you dont have to win TUF to move forward.

Is this true if I use a guy like Conor or anyone else already on the roster?

I think so. I think its similar to Fight Night where if you used a roster fighter, you were using him at the start of his career.

Never was into fight night so I wouldn't know about that. And that's fine I can live with that.

That's what it sounds like, which is great. I don't know if they've confirmed that you make CAFs for it but I don't see how else they'd make it work.
