EA Sports UFC 2 News Post

After revealing yesterday that EA Sports UFC 2 would have over 250 fighters on the roster, Mike Bohn has posted his EA Sports UFC 2 hands-on impressions over at MMAJunkie.

Below are a few nuggets from the article, but make sure to read the entire thing for more details.
  • More fighters confirmed (see some other confirmed fighters here): CM Punk, Alexandra Albu and Clay Collard (Brock Lesnar is out)
  • Audio: Mike Goldberg and Joe Rogan return, no surprise there. But on another note, Bruce Buffer's fighter announcements are taken from actual broadcasts.
  • Complete overhaul of the ground game
  • Striking styles are unique to each fighter
  • Submission mini-game hasn't changed
  • Leg kick TKOs are possible
  • Knockouts are driven by in-match physics, no 2 knockouts will look the same
  • Training, Career and Ultimate Team information

"The adjusted defensive striking controls allow users to block low and protect the legs and body or block high and defend incoming head strikes."
- Perhaps a bit too optimistic but hoping that this implies the removal of weak everything block.

"Instead of the classic half-circle rotation to stand up or change position, users are presented the option to hold the joystick in a certain direction to load a bar to achieve a desired move."
- At the very least I think my controllers will last longer because of this change.

Never been big on the half/quarter circle stuff, but it is what it is. Can't wait to check out this new system.

On his Twitter, Bohn confirmed that Lesnar has been removed.

Booyah. CM Punk being in. Yes. Sucks Lesnar is out, but not surprising.

Sweet they brought back the career mode training sim stat thing. That will be amazing. I'm also liking the fact that Buffer's announcements are being taken from actual broadcasts it should add to big fight feels instead of having his title fight calls sound like a Fight Pass prelim.

Too early to comment on this yet.

Love love LOVE this! Will go a huge way in making main events feel like actual main events! He always lacked his enthusiasm and very happy that this is changed. Looking forward to everything else mentioned as well

The one thing I'm wondering about the Buffer recordings: There have to be some fighters who have only been on cards with Andy Friedlander as ring announcer, right? Would they all be below the level of who's in the game? I'm too lazy to check who's been on which cards and so on. I was thinking Alexandra Albu would be one, but it looks like Buffer did the Krakow card, so who knows...

Is Punk gonna be announced by his real life name (was just about to google that actually) or by his ring name?

I believe it's CM Punk but I could be wrong. I didn't use him when I played the game but he was listed as CM Punk in the menu.

I wouldn't be surprised if they have or had Buffer come in the studio for some of those names he hasn't announced yet.

A while back Dana White said that he'd be fighting under the name CM Punk, but things could have changed.

Well, sure, but that makes them lesser now.

Not necessarily. People act as if Buffer gets excited for every fighter. He doesn't. He's subdued as he can be during the prelims and for new fighters. So even if he is subdued in the studio it won't be much of a difference from real life when t comes to lesser known fighters.

My issue with UFC 1 was that he didn't get excited for the fighters he usually gets excited for and some of them were just wrong. They call Conor...Conor "the notorious" mcgregor in UFC 1. That's just wrong.

Yeah, everyone was Firstname Nickname Lastname, IIRC, regardless of real life preference. Did that get fixed from what you saw?

As far as my half-joke about the fighters w/ canned intros being lesser, I did think that one of the best things about the presentation of the first game was using real in-fight announcing clips.

They sounded better but it was hard to get a real read on it because there was a lot of noise in the studio.

It would be neat if there were two Buffer calls for each fighter, one for big fights and one for small ones.

And like 20 for Conor and Jones since I feel like I'll be seeing them a lot.

What great news for the roster! There are so many fighters I will really enjoy using for the first time.

I also hope there are a decent amount of legends like Liddell, Franklin, Florian and Gracie

Hopefully Patrick Coté will be in!
