Madden NFL 16 News Post

So the Week 2 roster update has gone live. We don't know much about what changed because, well, EA hasn't said what did.

UPDATE: EA has posted a new blog with some of the updates to the roster and included a spreadsheet with all of the changes, including changes to depth charts and injuries for all 32 teams.

GOING UP
  • Tyrod Taylor, QB Buffalo Bills (+4 to 74 OVR)
  • James Jones, WR Green Bay Packers (+3 to 84 OVR)
  • Alex Smith, QB Kansas City Chiefs (+2 to 86 OVR)
  • Aqib Talib, CB, Denver Broncos (+1 to 91 OVR)
GOING DOWN
  • Jameis Winston, QB Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-2 to 79 OVR)
  • Peyton Manning, QB Denver Broncos (-2 to 90 OVR)
  • Adrian Peterson, HB Minnesota Vikings (-2 to 93 OVR)
  • Kyle Long, RT Chicago Bears (-4 to 84 OVR)
What changes are you finding so far? OS user Find_the_Door has already noticed that Romo now has the "Clutch" trait, and Ben Roethlisberger has been given a ratings boost.

where do you see the changes? I looked at the link and don't see +/-

I think the point is to, more than anything, keep things fresh for online play/Draft Champions/Ultimate Team. It's like this in all the other sports games, lots of people enjoy seeing players going up and down.

Plus, as is always the case, it creates lots of conversation.

Unfortunately I don't see them highlighting the changes in the Excel sheet -- though I am looking at it via Google Sheets. This might be something we look into trying to highlight ourselves if they don't explicitly point it out themselves (unless I'm completely missing it like you).

Ya I can't figure it out, trying to see what boost C.Hyde got

Only thing that went up on Randle was his spectacular catch (for that effortless one hander he had).

Yea I was thinking about when his speed was 83 or 84 in the original rosters. I was mistaken

That had to have been an oversight in the first place. IMO Randle is an 87 speed, 89 agility, 88 Acceleration. Not nearly as fast as McFadden at top speed or getting there.

I dont like it either....one week ratings just isnt a large enough sample size. Its idiotic to raise a guy one week and lower him the next just to give him the same rating he had to begin with. (and knowing EA's infamous attention to detail undeserving guys will get incorrect ratings and it wont ever be fixed)

rating every 4 weeks is a much better idea. Then its based on actual trends and a much better window of production/performance. Thats 4 during the regular season..update rosters with equipment/depth chart changes, and new players weekly (and take players on IR off the roster entirely)...but weekly ratings changes are too knee-jerk IMO.

Pretty much nailed it.

I wish EA would take an authentic approach to player development and regression, but sadly I understand that Madden's market isn't always concerned with absolute realism. People like this stuff.

My sentiments exactly. I'm not a fan of the weekly update and think it's based way too much on NFL Red Zone, ESPN highlights, social media, etc. I had hoped these weekly knee-jerk reactions would come to an end since Donny Moore has departed, but that was probably foolish (wishful) thinking on my part.

A couple years back I read a blog by Madden Manniac where he tracked the weekly roster updates throughout the year. The link is below, should anyone be interested in reading it.

I'd like needed ratings adjustments made on a weekly basis (example: Joe Randle made an effortless one handed catch yet had a 40 something spectacular catch).

Also injuries and transactions.

Annoying that injuries aren't enforced online....

Or a rookie like Mariota that clearly might be better than we thought.

My biggest issue is the physical ratings changing from week to week. Randle should not have received a speed increase IMO. And I'm a Cowboys fan.

Also Murray and Peterson getting bumps just for an unproductive one week. Seemed to be more about the bad OL play and lack of carries.

I guess I would just like to know what the changes are based on.

I hope I can post this without being labeled a "whining baby" by some. Lol

I should have said, "awesome! Thanks EA!" Lol

Did they fix Mariota's DEV or is he still Madden worthless?

It really bothers me that you can go into any draft and get 3rd and 4th round qbs that have better overalls and better stats than Mariota (2nd overall pick) who is clearly a superstar of the future.

Thanks for the off topic personal attack on a public message board.

Isn't this kind of thing against the rules around here?

Are you really sure he's clearly a superstar of the future?

Madden just needs to find a way to tie the overall ratings of each player to other players on the team some how. I dont know how it would work but it proble could be done. I mean as an example James Jones isnt really 4 overall better then he was before the season started he didnt all of the sudden knock massive time off his 40 or grow new hands that catch better. He just gained an Aaron Rodgers which made him 4 overall better. Madden needs to find a way to reflect this in game play as a good QB should make his recivers better. Just like a good O line makes his QB better and running back better. Same goes on Defense a good pass rush helps the secondary in coverage and good D line can take up blockers to help linebackers be in a better position for a takle. But once again im not sure how to implement this or what ratings would be fixed and what ratings would change based on players around them.

He had one great game against the worst team from last year. I'd hold off on buying fabric for those superbowl banners just yet.

I would still prefer updates on week 4, 8, 12, 16, and final Superbowl.

Though I guarantee, the arguments would still be excessive. That's why we truly need FBG rosters to take over from this weekly overreactive nonsense.

totally agree with you regarding injuries but one catch doesnt mean anything....consistency and trends do. i'm a birds fan, kiko alonso had a one handed interception vs ATL. should his catching go up because of one play? I say no...his decent catch rating is based on the fact that he had 4 picks as a rookie. He exceeds that this year we'll talk....otherwise? NAH.

I don't like this whole "overreact to minutiae" politic-for-my-team, highlight driven ratings stuff. The next time Randle drops the ball should his catch rating drop? again...trends, not one play assessments. FYI: Randle has 15 catches for his career (in 30 games) so he's not exactly a pass catching back juuuuust yet.
