FIFA 16 News Post

No, no, no. Not her. The NCAA didn't force EA Sports to remove Alex Morgan, pictured above in FIFA 16.

They did however force EA Sports to remove 13 other women from the game, which features 12 Women's National Teams for the first time in franchise history.

The NCAA informed EA Sports that 13 female student-athletes would risk their eligibility for collegiate athletics by being included in FIFA 16.

Quote from EA...

Quote:
We do not agree with this position. All rights were secured following standard protocol with national governing bodies and federations, and none of these NCAA student-athletes or potential student athletes were to be individually compensated by EA SPORTS for their inclusion in the game.

We believe this decision denies these 13 athletes the opportunity to represent their countries in the game, but we have removed them from FIFA 16 to ensure there is no risk to their eligibility.

The following players were removed from FIFA 16 because of the NCAA decision:
  • Kadeisha Buchanan, Canada
  • Jessie Fleming, Canada
  • Ashley Lawrence, Canada
  • Janine Beckie, Canada
  • Rebecca Quinn, Canada
  • Sura Yekka, Canada
  • Celia Jiménez, Spain
  • Tanya Samarzich, Mexico
  • Greta Espinoza, Mexico
  • Christina Murillo, Mexico
  • Amanda Perez, Mexico
  • Emily Alvarado, Mexico
  • Maria Sanchez, Mexico

This is pretty sad on a number of levels.

I think we will see this story on a future John Oliver - Last Week Tonight Episode as an update the dips that is the NCAA.

EA should have left them in.

The NCAA could have attempted to make them ineligable but in court the girls woulda won. The rules are clear that an athlete representing their nation can appear in advertisements and anything related to their National team or individual representation. What they can not do is profit financially (which they are not) and appear in their college gear (which they were not)!

However, BS to that one can not profit (not that EA was paying them). You telling me Maroney and Rogers do not make anything off all those Adidas adds? They are both NCAA gymnasts these days and were in tons of adds, including NBC Sports and Addidas.

Quite honestly the NCAA does nothing but screw over college athletes and this is an example of it. This does not hurt EA Sports. It does mean these young women who have worked their whole lives to be on the National team are now not able to get recognition. Kinda flat out kills Canada and Mexico's rosters.

Absolutely why the rest of the world is wiser doing club sports instead of college athletics. The student athletes are used and gain nothing but if even get a little recognition the NCAA freaks out.

Everyone should write the NCAA a harsh letter. I will and do not care that in less than two years will be an athlete under their law. They are criminals not the young people playing sports and trying to get an education.

The NCAA can go sit on sharp rusty nails, the dirty non ethical creeps!

Same.

There's a girl who goes to my alma mater and she's on the England national team. She's only a Junior but she's a beast. I expect her to be taken out of the game soon.

Was really looking forward to using her.

Who on the England side is at University in the states and a current or pending student athlete?

If she graduated last May the NCAA has no say.

The World Cup English roster did not have any NCAA athletes on it. Unless England's National team site is just poorly updated.

After playing FIFA16's demo, was finally considering buying an EA soccer game. Hearing this news definitely crosses off FIFA16. Loved the woman's portion of FIFA16.

No soccer for me.

It should be noted that EA Sports is disputing this. They removed them to protect the athletes eligability but they do not agree with the NCAA.

Also they replaced them with authentic players lower on depth charts. Not generic athletes but members on the National teams just lower on the depth charts.

All of this can be found by googling the topic. Polygon has probs the best article but yahoo and pretty much everyone in gaming has an article on it, and even ESPN.

The EA anouncement.

Good. Unfortunately no soccer for me until it gets sorted out.

This coming from the same NCAA who, at some level, entertained the prospect of including real "student" athletes in the NCAA Football series with EA Sports. Incredible. They deserve every bit of bad publicity they receive. I hope the Power 5 conferences break off altogether from them, and the others follow.

EA knows how the NCAA operates. We all know how the NCAA operates. Therefore, EA should have executed a process that protects them from the NCAA's absurdity. The solution to avoid NCAA'S crap is fairly simple.

The NCAA wishes they were FIFA. FIFA wins by a long shot based solely on what is going on in Qatar. Not to say that the whole executives being arrested should be overlooked.

The NCAA is on a path of destruction in my opinion...its only a matter of time before a big name school tells the NCAA to shove it.

The NCAA probably has no option other than to say that they cannot be in the game. Sounds to me like this stems from the O'Bannon lawsuit.

The NCAA needs to be disbanded, I've been saying this for forever. They are corrupt and greedy and someday soon I hope they get what's coming to them. Them and the NFL act like they have as much power as the government or something, it's ridiculous.

Or a big name CONFERENCE. I've got this feeling that one day we're going to see the S.E.C. separate themselves from the NCAA. That may actually be a good thing and get the ball rolling. It's just ridiculous for them to act this way.

I'm betting the Pac-12 goes first....then Big10.........then the rest.

This is unfortunate, but the NCAA is being consistent with decade of video game experience. If your name is represented in a consumer product, it's a violation of the individuals NCAA eligibility. The NCAA wants to keep their game amateur and pure. I think it's reasonable even if it does punish us the gaming consumers.

Still the NCAA is hypocritical as they pretend to be amateur while allowing schools to sign mega sportswear contracts and make millions in merchandise. If they were consistent, the merchandising of the schools for profit would be illegal too.
