Madden NFL 16 News Post

Madden NFL 16 is a game where I have faced mixed emotions playing it. On one hand, the gameplay has arrived in every way now, and can be put amongst any other game in our genre in terms of great-playing sports games.

On the other hand, funky design decisions and truly bad bugs really hamper the experience in the game’s main mode: Franchise.

That always brings a tension in reviewing a game. It's brilliant but left wondering why some decisions were simply made.

With all of that said, Madden NFL 16 is the best football game you’ve ever played, and the experience is generally becoming one that can be described as great.

I just returned Madden and got my money back. I give this game a 5/10.

Game play is improved from last year, I'll give it that. However... everyone on these forums should be incredibly offended that a company who recorded over 4.5 BILLION DOLLARS in revenue this year cannot put out a quality game. No improvements have been made to this game in three years. We are looking at TWELVE (12) BILLION dollars in revenue in three years and they cannot pay someone to put in a functioning ticker, half-time stats, nice looking sidelines, fix auto-subs, fix the draft... add immersion to CFM... the list goes on.

On top of all of that which was previously mentioned, a patch was never released that caused the game to crash and players forced to watch the Cam Newton intro again in last year's title. There was no 'day 1' patch this year to address the literally hundreds of issues in this years title.

EA Sports continues to put out a horrible title year in and year out. why? Because there is no competition and we are satisfied with this product because we have nothing else. I don't understand how anyone who watches football on Sunday can start a CFM and give this game a '7.5 or 8' with all the garbage currently in the game.
I never start a CFM right away because I'm testing sliders till opening day or longer.

Same as it ever was.

To each their own, right?

Sorry it was intended as a joke .

Madden 16 is the best madden there has ever been and it matches NFL 2k5 hands down.

Havent been this happy with a football game since NFL2k5 on ps2.

Madden 17 needs to do TWO things...

Fix their Overcast and weather games(because they lack any authenticity visually...Olive colored lighting?" yeah OK)

and two

SOMEHOW REALLY fix interaction after tackles so that stepping over players doesnt trigger highwire floatness
Because you're one of the half dozen people on OS, who's opinion I respect. I am going to cave in and finally get my football fix on the next gen console. Its based on that 2k statement.

Madden still sinks, bring on a competitor and I will buy a football game again.

Madden overall is a decent game, but let's be honest considering its long history the game should be far better than what it is. I played Madden since it first started (believe it or not) and to me the game improves at a slow pace every year. The Madden team improves certain areas of the game while slightly upgrading or ignoring other parts of the game or removing some feature. It's the only football game on the consoles and people could argue 2k5 (its never coming back ) is better or other sport games are better etc. and I tend to agree. Don't get me wrong I do believe Madden is good but because of their long history I believe EA only does just enough every year to keep football fans coming back. If there is no competition what is their motivation to improve the game? Now I play or borrow Madden from a friend and buy it when it becomes cheap. Good game, yes great game compared to what game other than Madden?

"Also, with just 32 teams — there really is no excuse not to have fully authentic in-stadium experiences. Everything from the traditional crowd chants to what plays when teams score, etc. — these are all details that should not be a problem to add. The fact they aren’t in the game is mind-boggling to me."

In BOA stadium, the crowd goes "LUUUUUUUUUUUUUUKE" when Kuechly makes a big play. Thought that was a nice touch.

This review read like expectations have been aligned with EA's segmented, peripheral improvements.

Awesome review, man.

We hope you all enjoy ours -- we'd like to think it's pretty epic: http://godhatesgeeks.com/madden-nfl-...eague-tonight/

This game 98% plays like last years game with the addition of you get to decide what animations to trigger when catching the ball. Which triggers much warping and cancellation of your button presses. Just so certain animations can play out.

Same bad offensive line blocking.
Same bad player warping.
Same bad animations/player movement.
Same plain presentation(where the cut screens don't match whats happening on the field at times)
Same boring commentary.
Halftime and post game still ain't caught up to 2005.
Sure wish I could send more than one man in motion...Like they do in the real NFL...and in games back in 2008.

Sure wished the defensive lines stunts were not tied to the play call.
Sure wished I could choose which gaps my LBs blitzed through.
Have not been able to do these things since 2008.

Sure wished I could have some influence on blitz pick ups by my FB/HB
instead of them blocking NOTHING or helping block defenders that are already blocked and letting the unblocked LB come through.

I do like they finally gave the defense some pre-snap adjustment love.

This game is always gonna be compared to itself. This is how they have programmed most of the community to think.

I will give Rex some props though. He sat down with Ryan Moody and gave a interview where he acknowledges some things that needs fixing that people here ignore. That's what needs to be done more discussion on the legacy issues and things that need to be fixed and improved and less about fluff stuff and people being butt hurt over comparisons(much needed comparisons) between Madden and 2K5/AP2K8.

Once the patch drops that addresses the CFM bugs, and commentary bugs the game is a solid 8.5/10 for me.

Huge strides made this year in gameplay.

Expectations haven't changed at all. People want a football experience grounded in authenticity that is fun, and by this reviewer's account Madden delivers exactly that on the field.

You are entitled to your opinion disagreeing with that assessment, however.

^^

Already has it's own thread and in another thread.

Good interview.

Very little mention of what's missing despite there being so much football missing, basics that have been requested for years. TombSong touches on several.

The review is based on what Madden is selling, which is what they've been selling, plus some peripheral upgrades that always seem to lack proper tuning.

But yeah, everyone's idea of authenticity seems to differ.

lets be clear, lets talk football before gaming. name me any football game REAL LIFE within the last twenty years that did not , and I repeat did not have face masking, holding, clipping and cheerleaders. Now lets talk gaming, I could be wrong, but rex said in a interview (director of madden at ea sports) said one of madden new features is face masking, clipping, and holding. I'm just saying its been over twelve years and you're now putting that in the game. Im sorry to rain on your parade from your comment to this guy. 2k 5 did that over 10 years ago and your now doing. Madden is trash for a lot of reasons period.

And we use to take hot baths with heated rocks so I guess hot water sucks and you should go back to the old way.

Not sure what you are referring to, those penalties have been in the game for a long long time.

So, I don't think you are raining on anyone's parade at the moment.

Really well written and well played review of this game. In my opinion, this is a very good representation of football. Personally this is my second favorite football game ever to be released. EA releases the patch sooner than later and who knows, this could be the sports game of the year.

Offline the game is very good. Online on the other hand is just terrible.
