Here we are, three weeks from release, and virtually no gameplay footage showing the game's AI in Play Now, Be A Pro or Be A GM, other than a one-minute clip back in July(?).

But let's take a look at each team's mascot.

I'm sorry, but this is getting beyond ridiculous. I'm glad they fixed the EASHL for those who play it. But offline players have NO idea what we're getting with this game.

It's quite ridiculous, actually. The worst part is, their sales will more than likely increase because of the simple fact that they re-added EASHL. So, they won't have any reason to take deeper looks at the rest of the game. They need competition badly. If not for any reason other than getting some of the creative/innovative juices flowing again. Forget about mascots. Sure, it's nice, but only if other areas of the game aren't lacking like they are.

I didn't even know the Stars had a mascot and I'm not sure what that thing is.

The Flames mascot looks like roadkill.

Apparently, we've got a pretty good idea. Put in the DVD for NHL13/14, and imagine it with 15's graphics, and I would guess we're pretty close.

EA has set the table to disappoint me once again. Such a bummer.

Yeah. It's frustrating. Maybe we can hope that by the time NHL17 drops, they'll have given one guy on the team the task of "checking to see what those offline guys are complaining about". Who knows, they might even touch AI that year.

I think a new development team and leadership is needed for this series to recover. Last year they trickled out arena screenshots... This year mascots... And the fact that they even considered zamboni racing as a possible feature. I mean come on!

Awesome! This totally makes up for no player editing and no cumulative goal totals in GM mode! I'm preordering today!

(In case you haven't noticed I was being sarcastic).

Guys, could you take a closer look at the Blackhawks mascot please? Behind him are some details of the arena. I can't really make out if it is the United Center. Appreciate your help, thanks!

Sorry if that isn't allowed or is a bit much but seriously, this is absolutely ridiculous. It's completely clear to me that EA only cares about marketing the game to casual players, not their loyal fanatics that have bought the game every year for 20+ years. It's sad, really.

I guess I'll enjoy playing the game and the improvements while most of you are sitting here complaining.........

The beta sold me on improved gameplay. So what if they market the pretty things?

I really don't get the complaining about adding mascots. It's like getting chocolate sprinkles on your ice cream to go along with your rainbow sprinkles. At the end of the day, it really hasn't hurt anything.

Player edit is back in this year

Yeah, every mascot reveal turning into a "this is why EA hates us" grudgefest is getting a bit stale. If you hate the direction of the series and have no intention of buying that's understandable, but no need to go on and on about it.

I don't think people are angry about the Mascots I think there is a frustration that they release things like this but with 3 weeks until release there is not one offline game video clip. Not one...(that quick unplanned clip of 2 guys playing as Rangers/Detroit aside). With past offline disappointments there is good reason to be apprehensive and frustrated.

This ^

Not one game play video except that 1 min clip and this game comes out for ea access members Sept 10 yet I could find plenty of videos for madden or fifa Nba live or Pes or star wars or any other game but this. People who mainly play offline haven't seen any game play or have seen how the AI reacts etc and with no demo and what happened last year I and others remain skeptical and concerned that this is just nhl 15 with tweaks and EASHL

I do like the mascots. I think it's a nice touch and adds to the presentation. I always welcome presentation advancements. I would also like to see offline gameplay like the rest of you guys. In order for a game to be good, it needs a good mix of solid gameplay and great presentation. The presentation side of things seems to be improved. I just want to see if the gameplay side has been improved as well.

Sadly I don't think that is the United Center. From this pic and the videos that I have looked at I just have a bad feeling it's still not it. I hope I'm wrong

EXACTLY. I wasn't complaining about the addition of mascots at all. I'm simply frustrated that this is the big news release they choose to share 3 weeks before the game comes out, while NOTHING has been shown or even mentioned about offline gameplay.

The gameplay stuff has been shared in the Ask EA stuff, and I notice they answer Facebook comments a lot.

But the twitter sphere and kids want the pretty stuff, not essays on offensive and d defensive AI

I don't see a big issue with the lack of gameplay videos. I played a ton of 2v2 EASHL demo, which features a ton of AI situations.

The mascots look good. I'm happy EA NHL is trying to bring some character to the arenas. Arena character has been much better in games like the show/Madden/NCAAF(RIP)/NBA2k, for years.

Sure you can make the argument that the heads working on mascot should have been working on 'x' instead, but at least they are building the game up.
