NBA 2K16 News Post

We recently had an opportunity to interview Jeff Thomas, vice president of sports development at Visual Concepts to discuss some more details about the new 2K Pro-Am mode in NBA 2K16. While we had many questions from the OS community, most of them could not be answered at this time, due to details on other modes yet to be announced. With that said, enjoy the quick interview and let us know what you think.

Ok so you didnt answer the question because it was a lose lose situation for you. You cannot have the mode dependent upon 5 human players per team because at anytime someone can lose their connection. Ive countered your reasons with logic and now you have nothing to say.

https://youtu.be/FJJ27IUUxeY <-- endless cheesy cpu double teams 'nuff said
What I saw in that video are inept players who did not know when to pass the ball when they should. If you are going to stand around and literally watch the double team come up to you, and not pass it to your open teammates then you deserve to get it stolen.

I'm sorry but if you can't defeat something personally, it doesn't make it cheese.

I wonder how many times I can change up my team?

Cause if it's one and done, I guess I would be taking advantage of one team cause I know that Flint Tropics, Toon Squad, maybe Harlem Globetrotters will be taken.

Unless of course I get like a 30 character limit for team and city name then I would just have my city be the Original...

I see you still havent decided which you would prefer. Your lone experience doesnt make it rare. And even if its rare it can still happen. You either choose to play with the cpu AI which your so against or you waste everyones time and end the game ? I gave you the one reason you cannot debate against. Connections can drop mid game.

I get you man but still, its a pain sometimes to get 5 together why not just make the 2 AI like 70 OVR MyPlayers that'll even it out.
I have my pros/cons

5 vs 5

pros:

- organic(without cheese, left right etc.)
- skilled teams and high basketball IQ guys will shine

cons:

- hard to get all 5 on at the same time sometimes, when you and your friend actually have a life.(less game played overall)
- if you want to play you have to deal with randoms or make friends with people you don't really like.

3 out of 5 with AI

pros:

- you can play when all of your friends aren't online.
- better spacing(compared to if you run with dumb random guys)
- More ball time(3 stars instead of 5, be honest with yourself it makes the game funner)
- You can team with your favorite players(Old crew)
- You can play the game how you want and make whatever position you want and dont have to fit a crew.

As far as this AI thing I hear people complain about how dumb our AI is on our teams in MyCareer but now you're acting like we gonna be hooping against baby jesus in the flesh they wont be that bad. if we are playing with 5 smart guys I feel we will have the advantage. because we can space the floor and as soon as I see the cpu double team I hit the open guy. Guarding CPU's isnt that hard, its way easier than guarding these left/right cheesers. Also having 5 we can help off the computers more than if they were real players because we know they wont get touches regularly making them easier to guard.

This is MY video lol. Me playing with my boy and this little kid we were trying out (who you can hear him and his little friend talking). I don't get his point. I don't see what any crew did wrong. If a pass got stolen it was because it was a bad pass most likely. Definitely would have been a lot more steals and a lot more cluttered if it was 10 users on the court.

Remember, 2K11 CPU players couldn't really stop lead passing and also that's when the 1-3-1 zone was still which most smart crew ran until some team could exploit it and you'd have to run man up.

Pros: People can play 5 on 5 (aka REAL basketball and not 3 on 3 joke ball) with only 2 other friends and not be shutout from the mode completely. This is the ONLY PRO that is needed.

Example: I don't have many friends that play NBA 2k and I don't like playing with random people I don't know that I haven't met in real life. Now I can play this mode and not be blocked from it. I'm also 33 years old and work a 2nd shift job in the television industry. I don't have the luxury of making 500 PSN friends on the internet/on PSN/in school and hope they're around to play NBA 2k with at midnight on a Thursday night.

Cons: None.

There's your pros/cons list you've been repeatedly asking for throughout the entire thread. Not many agree with your feelings for this mode and I don't see why you feel the need to try and convince them to.

I see two red flags. (Just my opinion)

1. OS: Will teams be restricted by position? Example: Three 7-foot SFs and two centers? Or is it two guards, two forwards, one center?

JT: No there aren’t position restrictions.

(Center at the PG position, PF at the SG position, PG at center? I'm just not feeling that. It should be PG=PG/SG, SG=PG/SG/SF, SF=SG/SF/PF and etc....it's gonna be a pain to watch five 7 footers on one team.)

2. OS: Will our MyPLAYERs have exclusive ratings and overalls to the Pro-Am that differ from MyPark?

JT: No.

(This tells me you can MAX out your myplayer with VC easily. VC should be excluded from this mode and attributes should be earned through ranked gameplay.)

two 7'3 centers charge cheesing in the paint snagging rebounds over the cpu while the other dude chucks up 3 pointers so he score 100 points will be epic.

# 50 nyk_fatboy @ 08/04/15 05:49 PM
Back in 2k11 it was way easier to get away with playing 2-3 players, 2k has improved so much you might actually want to have 5 players with you.. if 2k16 is even close to 2k15 taking the computer off the dribble will be a piece of cake that any team with 5 people can exploit & rebounding wise if you dont have 2 centers your toast.

# 51 jeremym480 @ 08/04/15 05:51 PM
Is there anyway in 2k (not necessarily in Pro-Am, but any mode) where you can play 3 users on the same team versus the CPU?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I have never really gotten into online modes besides a quick game here and there.
Well LD2k mentioned esports earlier today so their is probably a strong possibility of that happening

This factor alone makes me wary of this mode. People should get a consistent experience with an equal no-bot playing field.
Want the same experience as you but only have a few friends who play nba 2k. Im pumped for AI in pro am

Yea the cpu is a lot better now, and hopefully it's toned down a bit. They're like psychic when it comes to knowing where the ball's being passed.

But seriously 9 times out of 10 back in 10 or 11, you got a team of 2, 3, or 4. Rarely was it 5. Spacing is a lot better with a computer or 2...

I just wanna see who the AI will be controlling...
Back in 11 it was almost impossible to get get t vs 5

# 55 Dmanning2 @ 08/04/15 06:28 PM
It was so much easier playing with 3 or 2 Guys

I mean 5 people on a video game basketball team with only one ball to go around? lol

-

I played 2k11 crew until the servers went out we always played better when there was only 3 or 2 humans and have 2 or 3 CPU for defense.

Also dont have leaderboards at my local gym

Back in 2k11 you rarely saw a 5 man crew you get a few on occasion though.
You knew they would be really good or really bad.
There was no middle ground lol

# 58 RipCityAndy @ 08/04/15 06:41 PM
But it all means nothing if we can't get functional, reliable servers.

For everyone like this, that is thanking god for AI, why don't you just go out and meet people online? I literally have zero real life friends that I play 2k with but after playing park and meeting people, I have formed 2 separate 5 man teams. I play now with a solid 5, with 30+ people I could invite and sub in...

I agree that playing the CPU ruins the experience. People make mistakes, and it's what you do to take advantage of their mistakes that makes the game fun. I personally hate playing the CPU, they play perfect basketball and it gets very very boring.

Well, since i was little i have enjoyed playing video games/sports with my actual friends. We are now grown up and rarely get to do these things in the same room. These types of modes let us play a few games a week together without having to deal with random people other than our opponents. Its just my preference
