NHL 16 News Post

EA Sports has scheduled their Twitch livestream for the NHL 16 EASHL beta on July 29 at 1:00 PM PST. This will give gamers their first look at what to expect when the beta releases for NHL 15 Xbox One and PlayStation 4 owners on July 30.

If you are on the Xbox One version of NHL 15, you might want to go ahead and download the 1.06 title update now, since it weighs in at 21GB (PlayStation 4 update is 1.8GB). This update enables NHL 15 users to download the NHL 16 EASHL closed beta, which in itself, weighs roughly 5GB.

If you missed it, make sure to read up on the strengths and weaknesses of EASHL player classes here.

Have they mentioned anything about figuring out why there is such a discrepancy in the sizes of the file between the two consoles? They last I heard they didn't know why.

This was their last update. Doubt we hear much else about it.

So how exactly do I get access to the beta? I have NHL 15 on my PS4, is that all I need (besides the update)? I'm a little confused about how this is being handled.

So strange. Thanks for the update though.

Fire up NHL 15 on your console, it will install the update so that you can download the Beta when the time comes.

When the Beta is officially released for play, you will get on NHL 15 again and download the Beta file. That file will be its own independent application that runs the Beta, I believe.

In the past you could play pick up games within the EASHL league if none of your teammates were online. Has anyone heard if that will be the case in the beta version?

Any idea if you have more than 6 guus online that you can play two games at a time per team? I.E my team has 8 guys online, can we play two separates games with 4 guys or 6 and 2, etc. Or are 2 guys just SOL at all times?

2 guys will be SOL. However with no club cool downs you can easily run two different clubs at once and split that to games of 4's.

So the only way to play if you have more than 6 is to run two simultaneous teams. Teamname 1 and Teamname 2 type thing and just swap back and forth as guys are on

That's how I would do it.

Having never played EASHL before, one thing I am concerned about is the camera. From what I've seen, it seems like everyone plays EASHL with the Up-Down cam, but I use True Broadcast because I want my game to look like a real NHL broadcast. The only downside is that you sometimes lose the action in the bottom corners against the boards, which makes it awkward retrieving the puck in those areas. I realize not everyone is locked into the same cam, but it seems like it might be weird seeing one guy struggle with the puck in the corners and not know why it's happening.

Does anyone here play EASHL with the True Broadcast cam? Does it work or is there too much of a compromise gameplay-wise?

Yeah, unfortunately EASHL is not a mode that lends itself to real hockey broadcast views. Most people choose a camera in which they are most comfy with in terms of seeing all of the action and keeping the puck and their player in clear view. And even with those preferences, sometimes we are screwed based off of what EA has in terms of cameras.

Thanks guys. Ah well, that sucks. Guess I'll try switching up the cam for the EASHL beta, then go back to offline and vs. friends when the game drops.

Yeah, the beta is the best time to experiment with that stuff. Maybe you'll find something you like that works.

The custom camera angle feature from Xbox 360/PS3 NHL still hasn't made it into Xbox One/PS4 NHL, unfortunately.

It was a great feature after they finally fixed it to where it would save your custom angles permanently. Just getting the custom cameras to save (instead of being immediately deleted after each game) took EA two years if I remember right.

There's a good chance that the default camera options won't be sufficient for playing defense again this year, since it was impossible to keep the puck and the furthest offensive player up on your screen at all times in NHL 15 Online Team Play.
