This has been out in Europe since the 10th, and F1 is bigger there, so that's maybe why.

No career mode. No multiple seasons. Filled with game breaking bugs, online doesn't work.

But it looks amazing.

Played every year that this title has come out but will not be purchasing or playing this one. Maybe PC if they add a career mode but I like last years and I will just stick with it.

I'm not sure how you can comment on bugs, and broken online play, without playing, or having the game... but ok.

I just finished a quick race at Montreal. Game looks great, no doubt. Coming through the hairpin at Montreal though, I found it felt/looked like the framerate dropped dramatically, like it was stuttering a bit. I found that to be strange.

I miss the old screaming sound of the F1 engines

I find my engineer on the radio, to be almost impossible to hear.

I've always enjoyed the driving model, it seems more forgiving though this time around. Although, I did forget to alter some settings, so I did have traction control on for the race, I'm sure adjusting that will free things up a bit. Still love getting out of the racing line, or into the grass and getting the tires dirty and loosing grip. Really cool touch. Game seems pretty forgiving for those using controllers and not wheels too, which, for someone like me, is nice.

The lack of a career mode, really sucks. It appears you do have the ability to run the 2015 Season schedule as an existing F1 driver though. Not sure if that was a decision by Codies, or F1... but whoevers decision it was, was rather boneheaded IMO.

I can't comment on the AI, again, for my first race, I had it turned down a bit just to get used to the handling, so I was running about a second and a half faster than them, so it was hard to get an idea. Will experiment more tonight.

That's all I've got so far. Going to run a bit more here and report some more later.

Hey Brandon, looking forward to more of your opinions on the game. I'm on the fence. I might wait till I can grab it from Amazon for like 40 bucks. I'm not a die hard f1 fan but do watch it often and usually enjoy the games. Thanx for the info in advance.

I'm not a huge F1 fan either, but I've enjoyed the games in this series. I love road racing.

I turned the traction control off, and woah... what a difference. Didn't take much to snap myself loose. I left the AI on easy so I could adapt myself to no traction control. My practice session was a nightmare until I found the sweet spot on the triggers for acceleration. I was just doing a quick, one shot qualifying run, I managed to take the pole. Again, keep in mind, EASY AI. Race day came... it was rainy. OMG... what a disaster, I was nowhere near prepared for that. haha It was fun though. The AI, raced me tough, even on easy. They sure weren't just getting out of my way. They kept it close, were pretty aggressive actually, but being on easy, they were still easy to get by simply because of the speed difference. I fell back from a spin, and slide off track, ended up finishing 5th though.

I raced next at Monza. I left the AI easy again, I'm struggling without the TC. I was sliding all over at the start. Found myself in 5th quickly. Worked my way back up. Had a nice battle with Hamilton to take back the lead. I was pretty happy with what I saw from the AI, seeing that it was on easy.

I'll keep upping it as the night wears on and I get used to it.

Something feels weird to me with the driving model. Could be because I'm used to playing Forza Horizon 2, and Forza 6 though. I'm not a hardcore sim racing fan like some, so I'm probably not the best to try and explain the driving feel to you, especially since I'm using a controller, but I can say, it's very manageable with a controller. Also, I think there's different control settings for controllers, versus wheels in the menus. It's got a solid feel to it.

Up next... a trip to Sochi to check out the Russian GP

One really cool new feature, with Kinect, I can press a button on the controller and then "radio" certain commands in to my team for an update during the race. Things such as, full race update, driver in front/behind, fuel window, vehicle condition, weather forecast... your engineer then provides you whatever update you ask for. It's pretty cool.

OK, so the racing action is fun, pretty solid from what I can tell early on.

I decided to jump into season mode to check it out... I'm already bothered by the fact there's no career. Now season... here's your options:

Pick an existing F1 driver/car/team to be you.

Difficulty:
Easy
Medium
Hard
Expert
Legend

Length:
Short Weekend - 15 Min practice. One shot Qualifying. 25% race distance
Normal Weekend - 30 min practice. Short session qualifying. 50% race distance
Long weekend - 60 min practice. Full session qualifying. 100% race

No other customization? really? I can't mix and match my own options? I have to play a minimum 25% race distance? That's a bit much. Especially for someone like me who doesn't have much time to sit down to a race that length. That's a bit... silly IMO. Why not just give us the options to play it our way. Why can't I run a shorter race distance, with a full, or even short qualifying? So really... if I want to run the shortest race distance, I also have to play by their rules and one shot qualify? Seems a bit ridiculous to not be able to change anything...

First race at Melbourne is 15 laps at 25%. Not the end of the world I guess. At least it forces you to use pit strategy etc.

I have played the game that is how I know bugs, broken game play etc. Here is a review for you as well capturing some of these bugs. Not my review because I am not near my system right now, but still makes all of my points. This guy really only seems to play racing games and I have followed him for a while now and think he does a good job.

Thanx Brandon, keep it coming. Everything I have read has also mentioned real solid a.i. I have been looking on the code masters forums because up until today there was zero f1 '15 chatter. Seems like most of the problems people are complaining about is online issues. Yes many are upset with lack of a career, multiple seasons and some other features from last gen being left out. Can you check and c if you can save mid race, might make doing 100 or 50 percent feasable. I lean more towards the "simcade"style of racers so I think I will like the game also and will also be playing with a controller.

Hey bulit thanx for posting that video. Glad to hear the single player and driving model are solid but those glitches/bugs are terrible. I own both systems but actually prefer my Xboxone(yes I know the ps4 is more powerful) and was thinking of getting for Xbox. Do you know if these glitches are popping up on ps4 also. I know the community for this game is ususually stronger on ps. Also Brandon what system are you on or are you on pc.

Never mind, I just read your post again about you using the kinect. Let me know if you are experiencing bugs. Also I just noticed your Dolphins icon. That's my team, I love them even though they hard to love! lol

# 10 brandon27 @ 07/21/15 10:23 PM
I am playing on Xbox One.

I haven't watched the video. Probably won't. If it's online issues, I'll never notice, because I don't play online.

Finished the first race of season mode. Originally I complained about the race length. It wasn't bad. Longer than I'd like to run, that's for sure. It did make it fun though, having to pit, having the tires fall off, having to manage the fuel.

AI in the race, I was up to medium now. Still was able to take the pole. In the previous games though, I always ran Melbourne good. I fell back a bit in the race. Especially as my tires wore, and the lack of the traction control aid is very noticeable with tire wear lol I might kick it back from None, to medium.

There is an option from the pause menu that says, "save or load a mid session save" So, you must be able to save and resume. If so, that's really cool. I'll try it in the middle of this next race, and report back.

Well, you had said in your original post "Played every year that this title has come out but will not be purchasing or playing this one." Which is why I had said that.

I'm going to check out that video later, but for now, I want to spend my time tonight racing. Going to run one more race, then watch, ill report if I saw any of the issues. If they're online issues though, I can't comment, I'm playing offline, and usually only do.

Mine arrived in the mail this morning for the PS4. I'm going to hold off until my internet is reinstalled tomorrow in case there are any updates.

# 13 brandon27 @ 07/21/15 10:58 PM
You most definitely can save and exit a session, save, and resume at a later time.

For Xb1, there was a 976mb update when I popped in the disc. Not sure about PS4 though.

# 14 Lieutenant Dan @ 07/22/15 12:45 AM
Thanks for the impressions Brandon. My copy arrives tomorrow. My eyes are open on the lack of some modes and features, but most of that doesn't affect me. I have never completed an F1 season in the previous games anyway lol.

I'm just a bit bummed about no create a driver but I'll bet that csreer mode makes the cut next edition.

Monaco... Looks amazing.

Monaco... Destroyed me. Lol

I skipped 2014.. So I last played the 2013 game if I remember correctly. I remember Monaco being hard. But I got the hang of it. It's harder this time for me. I adjusted setups and stuff and finally found my way around in the time trial mode. But once I tried to race there. Oh man...

Some of the walls.. The way they are angled just eat up your car, cut corners too close. Catch the rear wheels on the wall. You're done. Even some of the long sweeping turns, the walls are unforgiving on those too. Ha-ha.

It felt good to get the hang of the track again. But I was in no way ready for a race.

The race into screens and computers are cool. When ur in the garage during a practice or qualifying session, you can watch the other cars on the track on the screen. Pretty neat.

There's not much to the season mode either. A few team goals. But nothing special. Just race. Standing etc. That's about it. So that sucks, but the gameplay itself to me I enjoyed without noticing any glaring issues.

That's all for tonight. I have to work tomorrow...as usual. Lol

Enjoying this game on PS4 a lot! I must say that Codemasters is the new king of the race replay. Man, they really upped the ante on this. Broadcast quality and multiple camera angles per lap. Better than Polyphony Digital in the replay department. Right now I am trying the Professional mode, and it is a killer. You play from the cockpit view only, with no assists and Legend AI difficulty. Just testing this out and I am no match against the ai. I like F1 2015. It's a nice game.

Thats cool. I didn't mean to sound so negative. I am glad you are enjoying it. I am a huge F1 fan and was just really disappointed this year, I think that came thru too much. This is the only game I actually play online with, I am in a group from Europe that races the entire season online with a full field. It is huge fun. A lot of us were hoping for the console versions to work better for online stability but such is not the case.

I might have picked it up for single player but 2014 is good and all of my friends are sticking with it until we see what the 2015 PC version is like.

I've had the game for 2 weeks now (Europe Credit Card) and I'd have to say I love it. I'm a big F1 fan, and was excited for months. The game looks amazing. I think it plays better than the previous F1 series. I'm loving the competitive AI even though i'm already on Legend. You will not win in a lesser car like a McLaren so that is realistic but tough as well as you can't develop the car in season.

Now the negative, the game is so so buggy. Every day there is a new one. This ranges from being stuck in 2nd gear after a pitstop and blowing up your engine, to starting your championship season with a driver and all of a sudden being switched to Hamilton mid season. The AI always pit on the same lap. So if Hamilton and Rosberg are 1 and 2 with 1 sec in between it will be 6 sec once the stops are done (Unless one of the cars just freezes in the pits which happens as well). The choices are limited as you only have 3 race weekend lengths during championship season and you can't mix and match. Race goals are unrealistic, if you qualify 5th in a lesser car with the goal being (10th) then all of a sudden the race goal is to finish first.. On PS4 replays sometimes crash out. There are more bugs but whats the point of me going on.

I love the game, even though it's buggy I love it. I'm just going to have to be patient to when the next patch will be released. Game mode wise it reminds me of NHL15 just very limited. For me it's playable and enjoyable, but if you're not a big F1 fan I'd might wait till next patch.

Brandon, I am on xbox one as well and am loving this game so far. We'll have to get some racing in. Add me - gamertag Chunt04

The AI is great in terms of realizing where you are on the track and being fair in terms of backing out of moves. They are very good at being aggressive when needed. The visuals are great and with all of the assists off the car really seems to come to life. The driving experience really is good in this game. The lack of career mode is unfortunate, but at least you can play the 2014 and 2015 seasons. The race day track atmosphere is great in this game, may even be the best that I've seen. This is a very solid base to build upon in upcoming years.

For those looking for a good view of the game, watch aarava's videos on youtube. They're very entertaining.
