FIFA 16 News Post

IGN has just posted a FIFA 16 gameplay video featuring Senior Producer, Nick Channon as he goes over the new features in the game this year. Most of the in-game action is put in slow motion so Nick can explain them in more detail.

UPDATE: GameSpot has posted a video with Nick as well. More of the same, but a few more details.

4:03 - perfect 180 turn pass, *sigh

4:54 - this scares me, hopefully it isn't as OP as it looks. You shouldn't be able to go down, get up quicker than it takes messi to take a step.

7:30 - correct me if I'm wrong but couldn't you do that if FIFA 15?

-Not too excited about what they showed off at E3, not too dissapointed either. Just have to wait to play it I guess. Really all I care about now is if they made manager mode more in depth and fixed the major issues

4:54 - it was like Marcelo was on ice just gliding. That was terrible.

But will any of it actually work.

They focused their efforts on defensive system, thatīs great news.

4:03 - You've never seen this in an actual game? lol okay.

4:54 - we'll just have to wait and see...marcelo is a top leftback in the game, and this feature was desperately needed, as fast LWs were OPed ridiculously last year. lower defensive backs may not be as successful

7:30 - there were feints using the R trigger, but not to that length away from the ball. now it seems once the left bumper is held you can use your left trigger to move your player anywhere w/o touching the ball, and that is completely new.

I'M JUST EXCITED ABOUT THE MIDFIELD. fifa is notorious for having virtually no midfield defense...its literally been a game from getting from the final 1/3rd of the pitch to the other 1/3rd, and its back and forth like a ping-pong. the midfield was and always has been a friggin joke, so it will be really nice to see my midfield making defensive stops and immediately pressing the counter, instead of waiting to get the ball back 10-25 yards away from my net.

"REMOVING FROM MAN MARKING"

Other thoughts:

-Yea there's no way in hell Marcelo is getting up that fast and making that particular play on messi. At least not in that situation. Hope this isnt OP.

-Counter to this, the fact that Messi popped the ball up (which seemed to be automatic) is gloooorrious

-Finally Messi might be actually messi due to these new feints.

-It would be REALLY nice to nice momentum play a part in these feints. So basically getting someone off balance, What if they could do this both for the cpu AND users.

-9:25 Why is Busi able to hit a driven shot that well? -_-

Overall I'm REALLY happy with these small gameplay improvements. They literally almost hit on every point that was needed gameplay wise. Now, it's all execution

It's like they were in the OS Slider thread the whole time. From 1:00 to 7:00 those features are exactly what we have been trying to achieve with the sliders.

This looks really good, but I need to see in in full gameplay action. The fact that the defenders are stepping up correctly and meeting the attackers, is the start of a good thing. I hope it sticks.

Liked the focus on defense but didn't really see anything that got me really interested. I'm just waiting for the demo to play it myself. The player models and movement still look pretty off to me.

Loved what I heard from FIFA but not too thrilled about the implementation. Some good & bad with the video

Good:

The animation of Neymar chopping his feet looked really good though.
Rakitic's covering Bale's run

Loved the contact animation that ensued after Marcelo's slide. Looked really natural (wish Madden could replicate this)

Midfielders covering angles and reacting

Bad

I don't know if Bale is sprinting but there's no one in the world that could keep up with him and not lose any space backpedaling.

The blind Benzema pass right to the feet of Kroos

The Marcelo slide was very weird in the sense that Messi seemed to slow down after he flicked the ball up allowing Marcelo to get in front of him.

The way they showcased "no touch dribbling". What they showed was feints. What I expected from No touch dribbling was allowing the ball to roll before you touch it, almost a hesitation move like in this video at the 2:40 & 4:12 marks.

Neither good nor bad but the dynamic crossing seems like something that is already in the game. Early, low, and normal crosses. Maybe they tuned attackers more aggressively going after them but I thought it was fine the last couple of years.

Interesting, sometimes I feel like I am the only one that feels like that. Especially in the movement department, that jog animation has always looked jerky and coupled with the odd player models large arms and hands would make for some comical looking moments to me. I thought this would change going to next gen but they must really be in love with that style.

I don't want to seem like I am getting on FIFA, I enjoyed last year for for what is was and I really liked what the did with the ball physics and physicality of football in FIFA 15. The improvements to the midfield sounds great because that is a big deal for me and hopefully they can ease up on players going for slide tackles in the game, it happens way too much in game especially on higher difficulty.

Just added another video from GameSpot. It's more of the same, but with it being longer and from a different interviewer perspective, there are more details.

You were the first person I thought of when I saw all of this

Yeah, that's bad. Luckily it looks like they've made corners/crosses/headers OP again to balance it out ... *sad trombone*

This was pretty disappointing in all honesty

They had something like this last year, I will wait until the full release comes out or Demo drops.

To me, thereīs seems to be two major things Iīm enjoying, but still dontīknow if its just my impression... :
CPU passing variety;
CPU passing to empty spaces and missing passes.

Like I said, still not enough time on videos to make conclusions, but if actually CPU passes more risky and misses more passes and all the rest reamains the same, then Iīm sold. Of course zonal/cover marking makes a huge step on the right direction. About overpowered crosses, shooting, headers, sprints etc...thatīs the easiest part to solve with sliders so Iīm not really worried.

Call me crazy, that looked awesome. One thing that I'd like to see more of going forward is to see the slide tackle pop up, and if its as seemingly overpowered as it looked there. That example looked a little weird because Messi went into a hop when he probably could have kept going.

Small sample size of one though. I'd like to see more examples. Everything else looked really good. Can't wait for more details.

All well and good, but, until I see improvements to manager mode who cares? I mean, I guess for people who play online sure this is great. But I find entertainment in playing manager mode for a few years.

If this game doesn't address slow youth players out of the academy, they could deliver this game with a pound of pure uncut coke and id have zero interest.

Hopefully August will deliver good news.
