NBA 2K16 News Post

With the NBA Finals tipping off tonight, 2K released its "Story is Everything" TV spot for NBA 2K16, the next iteration of the top-rated NBA video game simulation series over the last 15 years.

The video features legendary filmmaker and basketball aficionado Spike Lee walking viewers through the importance of story in basketball. From street courts, to high school and college gyms, to Madison Square Garden, Spike makes it clear that at every level of basketball, the story is everything.

The video also highlights memorable moments of this year’s three NBA 2K16 cover athletes: Steph Curry, James Harden, and Anthony Davis. Each athlete, from Curry, the NBA’s 2014-2015 Kia Most Valuable Player to Harden, a three time NBA All-Star and Davis, two-time NBA All-Star and NBA block leader who helped lead the New Orleans Pelicans franchise to its first ever playoffs appearance, has thoroughly earned the coveted cover role.

2K also announced Spike Lee’s role in directing, writing, and co-producing the NBA 2K16 MyCAREER experience enabling fans to "Be The Story" of an NBA player with drama never before experienced in a sports game.

Developed by Visual Concepts, a 2K studio, NBA 2K16 will be available for PlayStation®4 and PlayStation®3 computer entertainment systems, the Xbox One all-in-one games and entertainment system and Xbox 360 games and entertainment system from Microsoft; and Windows PC platforms on September 29, 2015.

Fans can pre-order NBA 2K16 at participating North American retail and online vendors, ensuring they receive their copy beginning on Friday, September 25, four days ahead of the game’s September 29 street date, along with in-game bonuses.

From that my guess is that we play the final year in high school and some games outdoors (pick up games with current NBA stars that gets our name out there?)

Still hoping for some kind of college integration, but video seems to make that less likely.

"What will your story be?"
Everyone crying needs to pay special attention to that line. Maybe it is branching storylines? Game gives us choices that determine the story going forward maybe.

I hate video game commercials with no gameplay, but its still early

Was hoping for tiny bits of gameplay...but oh well. But it looked like MSG was the star of the show. Is this the year of a licensed MSG?

I don't understand this marketing plan.
You should know how 2k is, they will systematically feed us info a little bit at a time , week by week like they always do to keep that hype train rolling.

It's the process of hyping it up and building up the anticipation, it's simple marketing.

It really isn't, honestly. The game comes out in less than 4 months.

Best part about that vid was MSG. Looks like they finally got the rights. About damn time.

We could possibly have MSG and no more New York Arena? That'd be a shock since I completely gave up hope on that lol.

Instead of a single new feature as a selling point, I'd figure a way more informative and efficient way to hype your product would by displaying an array of improvements with either game play footage or actually talking about the product. This looks more of an advertisement for the nba than the game 2k is pawning of as its digital counterpart.
Sounds like 'the single new feature' you are looking for.. is an improvement to the 'overall story & interactivity' of MyCareer mode.

That's a pretty good 'selling point'... especially if MyCareer is the 'most popular' mode of the game.

But if you don't play MyCareer mode much.... then I could see why it doesn't appeal to you.

Don't get the people complaining that MyCareer shouldn't be "my" anymore since 2k forces you down a certain path

Do we REALLY all we want the same boring game after game where nothing changes except the team you're facing? Maybe that's enough for some people but I like 2k trying to branch and do different things even if it sucks on the first attempt.

I feel a true old school atmosphere with old playground to remember the hardest paint of the 90's classics NBA.
Spike lee has known the playground, the NBA jam session, and with Jordan in this spot with his buzzer beater, i begin to dream again!! I really hope it is the real come back of the retro players on next gen!!

The issue isn't that there's storylines, its that its completely forced. If I can make different decisions than you and our paths end up different then yea that's cool. But no everyone plays out the exact same career. Doesn't matter what team your on you experience the exact same events. What if I wanna create a PG and a C with different personalities ? Well it doesn't matter cause they both get the same cut scenes the same everything.

Frequency Vibrations???

Seriously?

I mean wow...just wow.

2k has now assured us that we can still create our own player but we are just stuck with the name...

So basically the first white man in history to be named Frequency Vibrations will be hitting the NBA court...

Just to have fun...I should also gave the option to make white Frequency 5 foot 9, 300 pound, point guard...Just so I can laugh hysterically at the cut scenes.

Can't wait for this one!

I know his response got lost in the thread here, but I think the fellow from 2K said it'd be a nickname, not the forced legal name.

Right on. I think maybe the word we're looking for may be "organic". That said, it's much, much too early for me to draw any conclusions regarding this year's take, particularly with an "It's your story" motif. Perhaps there will be a move in the right direction this year, Frequency Vibrations notwithstanding.
