NBA 2K16 To Feature Steph Curry, Anthony Davis, and James Harden on Cover

We're seeing a deluge of 2K News hit today, and it appears that we now know our cover athletes for NBA 2K16. Stephen Curry, Anthony Davis, and James Harden are all going to get their own NBA 2K16 cover.

This is contrary to an earlier report which had Kevin Durant and not Anthony Davis on the cover.

We'll update this story with any official cover art if it happens to be released today.

UPDATE: Official NBA 2K16 cover art is here. All signs pointing to three individual covers. More details coming soon.

UPDATE #2: (via @Ronnie2K) The covers are singular, there is no triple cover on sale. However, we will have news on how you can interchange covers in coming days.

2K today announced that NBA 2K16, the next iteration of the top-rated NBA video game simulation series over the last 15 years*, will define the ultimate intersection of sports and pop-culture with three unique game covers from NBA All-Stars Stephen Curry, James Harden and Anthony Davis, as well as highlighting an all-new MyCAREER mode that was written and directed by acclaimed filmmaker Spike Lee.

Demonstrating the NBA 2K series� commitment to authenticity and innovation, 2K and Visual Concepts joined forces with legendary filmmaker and master storyteller Spike Lee to direct, write and co-produce the NBA 2K16�s MyCAREER experience enabling fans to be the story of an NBA player with drama never before experienced in a sports game. Lee�s resume, not only as the most famous fan of the New York Knicks, but as director for the classic feature film He Got Game and Nike�s Mars Blackmon commercial series, demonstrates his passion for basketball culture and storytelling ability which culminate as an interactive experience in NBA 2K16�s MyCAREER.

2K also announced that three of the NBA�s top superstars will be making their cover debuts on NBA 2K16: Golden State Warriors� Stephen Curry, Houston Rockets� James Harden, and New Orleans Pelicans� Anthony Davis. All three athletes will grace their own individual NBA 2K16 cover, celebrating their remarkable on-court achievements this season and throughout their careers.

2K have used "RED" theme for cover, wish Harden goes with red theme, Curry with blue theme.

So just me with wishful thinking and speculating here, but I find it very curious that all three of these guys have their college jerseys featured prominently on the covers of this game. You would think with licensing issues and such, no trademarks like THAT would be on the cover of an NBA game. Could it be possible the AI thing Mike Wang was talking about is incorporating college rules for a NCAA tournament mode in MyCareer or something like that? Just food for thought.

I was thinking the exact same thing when I saw the AD cover and I saw him cutting the nets. I mean I guess it's possible. Maybe a cutscene that shows what college you chose after your final HS game and then a final four or NCAA Tournament run. Pretty sure they could license logos and uniforms.

You've got a good point. I admit, my soft spot for classic teams had me noticing Harden in an Oklahoma City jersey more than anything else at first (I was thinking maybe a classic Thunder team would be in).

But you're right about the college stuff. One would think there'd have to be some licensing of some sort to secure those pictures and use them on this product but I don't know. I have a hard time believing there'd be too much college depth of anything, but I'm intrigued nonetheless.

I feel like if they use random athletes that arent remotely close to their actual counterpart (outside of the rookies) then maybe it could work. And maybe it is only a game or 2 in the NCAA like the Final 4 and Championship game if you win the first game.

Hell, randomize the teams in the tourney so nobody can say it was based off of their likeness.

I like the covers, but im intrigued by a few things. 1st is the different city skylines for each cover. Davis has the chicago skyline and harden has la. So maybe hometowns play a big role. 2nd like others stated is the college jerseys, i highly doubt they have the full ncaa license so that leads me to the 3rd point. spike lee directed he got game, if you remember the movie all the colleges were fictionally named. so maybe we will play in college at "Big State" in mycareer mode haha. I would have loved a John Wall cover though.

Good news, but I'm not anticipating anything of note to come from that commercial. Typically we don't even get actual game footage in those, just the previous game's engine running in a commercial promoting the upcoming release. Here's hoping to something different though since we've gotten a lot of early tidbits this year that we've not been privy to this early in the cycle in years past.

I feel you but in order for them to even have those pictures up of them in college, I'm pretty sure you cant half license it...the guys at 2K know what they were doing with this so im sure it has to be a full license with just use of logos and uniforms if at all. Or it could be a select amount of teams that they licensed.

On the pictures it's OK now...doesn't matter because they are in the NBA. The rule is you can't profit off of your own likeness WHILE ATTENDING college. But afterwards, I think it's fine.
