Spike Lee Writes, Directs Story for NBA 2K16 MyCAREER Mode

Spike Lee, acclaimed filmmaker and die-hard New York Knicks fan, is writing and directing the single-player MyCAREER mode for NBA 2K16.

Lee, who directed films such as "Do the Right Thing" and "He Got Game", said he was asked to work on the game this year, an offer which he accepted.

	"Lee said the game's story centers on a basketball player named Frequency Vibrations, whose personal exploits off the court are just as chaotic as the game on it. "It's about the trials and tribulations of life on a big stage with the money, fame, temptations, family members, the press, fans, all that stuff," said Lee.

Lee is known for his gritty storytelling style, but that won't be an issue with NBA 2K16.

	"We make an E-rated game," said Thomas. "It's an NBA licensed project and obviously the NBA cares a lot about their brand and makes sure we stick within those boundaries. Spike understood that from the get-go, but he didn't take his foot off the gas because of that. He still brought the drama."

Just hearing the name of this character makes this seem likes it's going to be silly. That has to be the worst name I've ever heard.

If we all have to play with this guy, it'll be a BIG mistake by 2K.

What you mean? Who the hell would want a name as Frequency Vibrations? This is supposed to be MYcareer. I want my own name and to create my own story or at least playing some type of role in it.

Exactly what about my park??? Everybody is gonna be frequent vibrations? This **** is the dumbest idea I've heard from 2k but they been moving in this commercial direction anyway I hope this isn't your only my career option I'll be playing 2k15 still then because I don't want no weak *** frequent vibrations name and story. I rather it be I cut scenes all straight basketball then have spike lee control your career...big mistake 2k

I was thinking that though, if we all have to play as this guy (which I am praying doesn't happen) could this possibly mean we can create a separate player w/ our name that's strictly online? And that would mean we'd have to build our guy up online like some people wanted?

But that's not my point, I like playing MC offline slightly more than online (unless crew was in) because it plays like real ball for the most part. The immersion of the CPU playing basketball likes it's supposed to be played. So I want to play as myself online and offline.

"Quincy Vibes" would be a BETTER suited name if he wanted to go crazy, BUT
Frequency Vibrations is just plain SILLY to me. Add to that the "yo yo dawg" slang and you got a real class NBA player. SMDH

Frequency Vibrations sounds ridiculous one way or another, but I'd be patient and not jump to conclusions just yet about the MyPlayer thing. After thinking about it for a few, it seems very possible there could be a Spike Lee story but also an alternative making use of your own character, face, etc., just like last year.

One way or another, I still miss the true MyPlayer, where the world was open and the forced, corny, and singular storyline primarily absent.

I agree that the possibilities are too many to know without further details but I must say my intuition from the beginning of this slow transformation into a singular railroaded story-line has been dead-on. And my intuition is telling me that the Allen Iverson clone is exactly the vision that Jeff Thomas, vice president of sports development, sees as the orthodox basketball reality we all should worship.

Do you honestly think the first name of 2k14's rival being Jackson and Spike Lee's kid being named Jackson is coincidence? I don't and I think 2K had planned on converting the MC into a Spike Lee interactive movie from 2K12 forward.

Not much info but what we do have sounds lame, MyCareer is 90% of what I play in NBA 2k games so at this point right now I'm leaning towards skipping this years game.

I agree, besides the silly name/nickname I thought something like this would be what the mycareer guys would want, it hasn't been about the NBA side of the game for a while so might as well be happy they are including a more detailed story.

Nah, I'm not feeling this at all.

I'm getting 2K13 vibes from this with the whole Spike Lee/Jay-Z thing.

I just hope the presentation doesn't look absolutely ridiculous like it did with 2K13 and the ugly gold microphone/speaker theme.

Frequency Vibrations is just two random nouns put together, that is not a name haha. I'm eagerly waiting for them to come out and clarify that. And I thought Seventh woods was a ridiculous name...

Maybe our guy is like Ron Artest, and changed his name to Frequency Vibrations like Artest did Metta World Peace... I really wonder what names DIDN'T make it, if they settled on "Frequency Vibrations", and said, ok that sounds good!

Frequency Vibrations hahaha as a guy who rarely plays my career anyway just hearing that name makes me cautious of how corny the story will actually be.

I never understood the appeal of my career since the Jackson Ellis days anyway, isn't it all scripted? I don't know, i could be wrong but it seems the mode is just to attract casual gamer's and immerse them into a scripted world.

What i would enjoy would be a documentary style 30 for 30 inspiration type of story. Where you come in undrafted like this years story, but your story can go at least four different ways. Be known as one of the greatest comparisons to MJ, or be one of the best scorers, or be one of the best to never win a title, or be one of the best players to be the least liked in the league(terrible teammate grade).

The game should stop a certain milestones and big matches and give that narration type of story.

At least it wouldn't be corny and totally scripted your results dictate the end of the doc.

I don't want a set story though, if I suck I don't want minutes being forced upon me just because it's what the story dictates. Last years start to your career was stupid with you getting your chance with a predetermined injury.

One can also want a better MyCareer and want sim ball, it doesn't have to be one or the other. If it were up to me MyCareer would be a lot more sim where player roles and following sets and schemes mattered.
