Madden NFL 16 News Post

The initial Madden NFL 16 trailer arrived earlier today, along with the first information on this game which confirms what we first reported — that Madden NFL 16 is going to be focusing heavily on the passing game.

This is all well and good, and the first trailer actually shows a few new add-ons that you might miss if you aren’t paying close enough attention. You can watch the video above or read on below...

Its always been like this for madden, "I hope this, I hope that", i'm over it with this development team, it's obvious they don't value the sim as much as the arcade. That's their prerogative how they run their business but if your waiting for them to change you might as well get comfortable

Just going to leave this in here...

How come fifa and ea ufc came close to this trailer, but live and madden are laughably nowhere even close?
One can hope, like a Cub fan, that things change, but I'm also realistic. Looks like things are turning around for the Cubs.

DeAngelo Hall... what is he doing?

He's in his own "catch and fall" animation with absolutely no influence from his defending or ODB whatsoever. I'm really hoping that animations don't continue to dominate this game, and more fluid "in-the-moment" motions can be introduced to the series. The fact that he's not even looking at the ball (or his defender) is one thing; perhaps we can attribute that to the fact that CBs are typically locked into their WRs on these long pass plays, so he couldn't see the ball's trajectory in this instance. But if that were the case HERE, it'd be nice if he had broken off from that animation as he was falling and turned to his man instead to try and disrupt the catch, however useless it might have proven.

Another theory could be that since Hall's positioning didn't allow for him to disrupt the play, the game triggered the interception animation to render Hall useless. This could be an example of the game simply choosing the wrong animation since it didn't trigger one that shows Hall falling flat on his butt. If that's the case, then for a game that lives and dies by the long-winded animation, Madden still has a very long road ahead.

I'd like to see all players more aware of what's going on in the game to make it a believable football simulation.

I believe many have that same question..The animation for DB Hall is not good....With a game highlighting improved WR/DB interaction and Pass Interference calls, I would hope to see DB Hall grabbing Beckham's arm and a referee tossing a yellow flag..

Yeah, he's not even close enough to be making an attempt at catching the ball. He should be swatting and/or attempting at grabbing ODB's arms. That's one that thing that has always bugged me about Madden's DB play. They are far too agile when the ball is in the air which leads to inhuman INTs instead of pass incompletions.

No player has to get a waiver from his barber to appear in a video game or anything else. And I'm willing to bet very few, if any, have gotten work done by one artist. EA must've had the dumbest of Entertainment Lawyers employed when they lost that previous case.

Amongst the many things wrong with the game on various levels, authenticity on,at least, the aesthetic level should be a priority.
Back when we had generic tattoos in the game they were removed bc the NFL didn't want them in. When we Kaps last year I thought we were heading in the right direction but I guess not. It's pretty awkward having 1 player out of around 2000 with tattoos. Hopefully they just remove them from Kap

I used to live forthis game years ago but then they stopped meaningful development and started wiith balony like 'new animations' 'more realistic grass' crap which is all fine and dandy for improved presentation quality.... HOWEVER when the core gameplay behind the new pretty animation remains unchanged, flawed, easily abused what am I getting for my $$$??? New rosters... that's it. Not worth my $60 every year....

Why is x box 1 the featured console in the trailer?

I would imagine the agreement between the NFL and Microsoft making the XBOX One "the official video game console of the NFL" has something to do with it.

This is pretty typical for their cycle at this point in time, first showing player models, with the rest being pretty much all beta. It doesn't even look like they've inserted new crowds and such yet, albeit the pics are shown on new Super Bowl field presentation. Steeler's wideout's helmet logo still cocked forward on the helmet, like it is now, similar to the Cowboys star and a few other logos, and I too will be disappointed with no mouthpieces. I'm also GUESSING db stuff will mean that receivers/backs fall down/get thrown down, etc, and there will be more check downs on who you throw to, and that's a good thing. If you're complaing about Hall's position on Beckam play, noted, but look at Carr's position in real life when Beckham made that catch in real life. Also looking forward to Rex's team video breakdown of the improvements coming. After the leap 15 made I'm still optimistic, and will remain so as I have in all these years. It's good to see the board buzzing again. At least we don't have ps3 gen 2006 type stuff to worry about. Wash, rinse, repeat.

The ball morphing mid air to OBJ hand concern's me..

Thanks for all the feedback guys! The WR/DB theme is just one of several major gameplay upgrades this year. We will be announcing more in the weeks leading up to E3. There is A LOT more to come.

Not worried so much about halls position as we are his interception attempt. He's trying to intercept a pass that isn't even there. He should be reaching over his left shoulder trying to contest the catch. It's fine to get beat and be out of position but the AI should know that and have animations in place to act accordingly

I understand your point. Receivers do the same thing when there is a pick. Wish the animation would just cease when possession is decided by cpu. Sticky wicket for sure.

I see a lot people complaining about Madden "canned-animations" but then praising 2k... 2k has the most canned animations of any game on the market. On another note, it does look decent, the only think i didn't like was the ball warping into odell hand. It looks good otherwise. People say do something ground breaking, but 2k does the same thing incremental updates every year, but people still give it praise. Its because EA makes madden, if it was any one other than EA hell it could be 989 Sports you guys would love it

I was gonna say I believe EA works more closely with Microsoft anyway... I'm fine with that seeing I'm an Xbox one guy and my PS4 collects dust

Every game has animations. People complain about Madden's animations because, for the most part, they tend to look more jerky and robotic than other games. Also, they don't seem to be as branchable, and they don't transition between animations as smoothly as other games out there.

Yeah, you can get stuck in a long animation in 2K, and it's not like 2K always plays out the best-looking/most-realistic animation every time. But for the most part, 2K looks and feels a little more organic than Madden.

That's just my opinion. I'm speaking for others here, but I would guess that that's where they are coming from as well.

But to stay on topic, I really hope hand-fighting and jockeying for position are a part of this new "Playmaker" system they're touting. If it's just a bunch of catch animation, and nothing else, I'm going to be really disappointed ... again.

*Hadn't seen the feature rundown on the other thread, but they are touting hand-fighting and "contextual animations" between WR/DB. We'll see how it works once we get some gameplay videos.

Finally someone can rationalize what they are trying to say somewhat, but honestly I think madden is smooth in my opinion, but that's just me. Sometimes 2k is so smooth that it looks like wiggle worms on the floor and not human movement.. I just don't agree that people don't like canned animations but 2k be having damn near 5 second long animations that you just put the controller down and watch
