Today's episode of Madden NFL 15 Training 101 once again centers around Force Defenders and how they operate in the game of Madden and in real life. Last time we looked at the linebackers and how they act as force defenders and this time we're taking a look at the secondary and how they act as force defenders. There are some tips here to pick up on as a gamer, and some ideas for improvement in future editions of Madden as well.

Be sure to give the video a watch and let us know what you think about the role of force defenders in the game!

If you ask me it looks like the players awareness play recognition and pursuit all have to play in to this to really prove anything. Show a video now with a strong safety that shows good attributes in those areas. I am in year 5 of my own franchise and I value those attributes a lot in my safeties and they do properly attack the play like you so desire. But also if the AI programmed to always take the "proper" angle there would be no big plays on the run game and so forth. It's always Players not Plays my friend. If AI could properly pass the football and make concept decisions this gameplay would be almost damn near perfect. That and wr db interaction.

I asked this question of a developer a few months ago, because I was having this very same issue with my fits, and I was told that while there are gaps assignments programmed into the play data, there is no true concept, yet, of true "run fits", or "force", or "cutback" defenders. The depth just isn't quite there yet. That's why you see the safety standing there even though he should have keyed run and reacted to it a beat earlier.

I noticed in the first video you were working from a 3-4. I imagine the reason it looked better there was because the 3-4 was tweaked this year to align the outside backers a little wider so that outside runs were better contained. In the 4-3, still, you'll see the strong side defensive end, more times than not, lined up almost heads up on a tight end. And with no true concept of 2 gapping, it becomes a dice roll how well he'll set the edge. You almost have to find a 3-4 style of end with a high BSH rating to put in that spot to set the edge.

Here's the thing. and i didnt mention this in the vid, buttt, to compensate for the lack of force, spill, and cutback implementation, defenders are able to disengage much easier in madden than they would in real life, which allows them to make up for the lack of proper run fits.
