MLB 15 The Show News Post

MLB 14 The Show was an outstanding experience for baseball fans, but many parts of the series have begun to feel old and tired. The possibility that the series is getting stale is very real, so this year the franchise must ensure the product keeps growing.

To avoid becoming stale, and to continue to improve, will require a careful balance of redoing the necessary pieces of the game without going overboard and ruining the winning formula. Here are three key areas the team at SCEA should be focused on:

1. Commentary/Presentation. The commentary was once labeled as some of the best in the business — unfortunately it hasn’t changed much since what feels like forever. New lines or a new group in the booth will help the experience feel fresh instantly.

"They scan faces during spring training each year."

Oh ok. Well maybe they only scan a few players like FIFA. Because Cespedes, for example, I'm certain is NOT scanned.

This looks like 2 different people:

Some guys don't get scanned, cause they either refuse to do it or they aren't at the facility when SCEA does the scan. Cespedes, and Manny Machado(a few others) didn't get scanned so SCEA art team tried their best to recreate players without scans themselves.

I can only speak for myself as what I mention below may seem trivial...the game is great, would appreciate the following:

Options:
- bring back the region fielding option (the big shadow)
- allow the blue fielding cursor to be turned off
- allow the base running diamond indicator to be turned off
- allow a separate pitch speed slider for hum and cpu
- implement a "call off" button when fielding fly balls
- allow us to be able to move around / change the size of the scorebug
- allow us to choose to toggle on/off controller vibration (batting, fielding, pitching, pressure situations, broken bat, etc...)
- allow us to adjust the strike zone that has a calculated/global effect on how balls/strikes are called...specifically high strikes...low balls/strikes seem pretty good in my opinion
- what happened to the Low camera angle?

Graphics:
- fix the fans going through the walls behind home plate and on foul balls where the fans try to reach and grab
- fix the vendors going through the walls behind home plate
- tone down the number of times we see vendors behind home plate and people getting up and walking up/down the stairs (and when then do walk up and down the stairs, make it look a little more realistic and have them actually touch the steps realistically; currently they seem to escalate up/down them)
- take the sweat off the hats
- fix players going through other players when in close encounters
- clean up any glitchy graphics (females hairstyles in crowd, player unis (belt, other equipment), edge of the grass (during close up cutscenes)
- bring back the degrading batter's box chalk outline
- fix the way pitchers grip the ball before pitching (BTP view) where fingers look a bit more realistic holding the ball
- fix the lighting issues in applicable stadiums
- unis are fine in my opinion (making them have subtle movement would be nice)
- improve facial scans and skin textures (many of the caucasian players have a glow to them...i play as the reds (jay bruce glows a bit)
- bring the atmosphere to life a bit more (swaying trees, blowing debris (not too often))
- fix the few cutscenes where at random a player will have a skinny head (this has been there for many years)

Gameplay:
- improve the framerate (at least lock in offline at 60 fps)
- tone down the amount of balls thrown away in the stands trying to pick off a runner a first
- have a more true to like broadcast look when a homerun is hit (camera angle techniques used in real mlb)

Commentary:
- i'd rather the focus be placed on making the commentary team sound like they're actually in the same room versus a whole new crew or more lines added

Misc:
- improved load times
- it would be nice to have a way to save all highlights at the end of a game even when back from a save/resume (i'd gladly give you 100GB of space or whatever you need!!)
- globally implement (or have the option to turn on/off) the delay in the switch of the camera from the batter to the field after the batter makes contact. currently, this is only found when using a behind the pitcher camera while hitting combined with the dynamic camera option...would love to have this available for broadcast camera
- have a way for the pitcher to turn his head, but not change the camera angle ...while checking a runner (pressure sensitive?)

...just some things i can think of playing a virtual game in my head (@ work now )

How about stadiums being up to date with championship banners etc.. because Texas Rangers didn't have one A.L. Title pennants they earned..they are not found at all in game but other ball parks had theirs..Was up with that The Show..

Franchise i do agree being able to maintain ticket, jersey, food prices would be legit and keeping up with news n more around the league. Plus also too with when your team breaks a record its known like with its Atmosphere of the stadiums should be the same way..

This from a first time player i would like to buy the next edition.

Some anti-aliasing would be nice.

If you are talking about the red banners that were along the first base side on the second level, the team removed them during the 2010 off-season. If you are talking about the flags in left center, then all I can say is that SCEA ordered all the different flags but only the Star-Spangled Banner showed up...

I feel with The Show there are like 100 minor keys rather than a few big ones. I'm sure that it'll take at least a couple of years to get the game back on track. It'll be good game untill then, but not an outstanding one.

i agree...with the exception of the last statement...i think it's an outstanding game now, just not perfect.

Yea that too, although I feel like I'm beating a dead horse at this point. If it's Style Guide related, can't really argue with that cause it is what it is, unfortunately.

1) Create a Stadium
2) Edit Stadium. For example you can purchase a new score board or if you win your division or World Series you can chose how and where to display your banner in the stadium.
3) Edit players salaries

1. more fielding cams.

2. better backgrounds.

3. get unis right (I don't care about the style guide rules, if you do a uni correct no one from MLB is going to complain!)

4. If crowd is small they should all be on lower levels.

5. Grass textures need improvement ... very carpet-y

6. announcing

7. classic stadiums

8. create a uni

9. relocation

10. override retired numbers

11. Still have good players that remain in free agency all season while dudes in 50-60 rating start for some teams

some of those are incredibly nitpicky I know. I love the game, so know that this comes from a very very satisfied player.

# 33 RecordBreakerCF @ 12/05/14 03:58 PM
1. Replace Vasgersian (he's good, and I don't have much of a problem with him, but he's been every single MLB the Show to date)
2. Cut down on the unrealistic total of pick off attempts
3. Different accessories such as bats, gloves, cleats, etc.
4. Get the salaries right
5. Bring back walk-up, entrance, home run music
6. Hall of Fame induction
7. Postponements
8. Start RTTS career with Class-A team instead of Double-A
9. Post game interviews
10. In-season contract extensions
11. Ejections
12. Suspensions
13. Silver Slugger Award for Designated Hitter and Pitcher
14. In-season Manager/General Manager firings
15. Manager of the Year Award

The individual teams are responsible.

# 36 RedMeansGo2006 @ 12/05/14 06:54 PM
Well then what's stopping them from doing it?

And I doubt all of the uniform errors are attributable to the style guide. SCEA's graphics people are good, but they're not infallible.

This isn't really worth posting but - I've always waited eagerly for the new Show and counted down the days.

I won't buy this year's game unless and until I'm convinced they have fixed gameplay for manage mode on the ps4. I'm very skeptical about them fixing it because I doubt they see it as a problem.

If batters are dumbed down resulting in unrealistic gameplay it doesn't matter what announcers sound like, what the uniforms look like, what the price of a hot dog is.

Not a rant, just reality.

If those stadium dogs aren't reasonably priced, I might just pass on the Show this year.

LOL

Not joking, I plan on renting the game and if I see multiple swinging strike three on pitch in the dirt, catcher throws out batter at first I will eject the disk, put it in the case and return it to redbox.
