NBA 2K15 News Post

Chris "LD2K" Manning and the NBA 2K15 developer team just sent us the full list and description of the NBA 2K15 badges. These badges are exclusive to the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.

Quote:
This year we combined Personality Badges and Signature Skills into one “Badge” list. Badges uniquely identify players in two ways: Personality and Skill. They affect how players react to various emotional situations, as well as how they perform in specific in-game scenarios.

One of the reasons why I am excited about the new system is because I think it will add so much depth to the rosters. When you think about it, no 2 players are exactly the same, i.e you have players in the league that are good transition finishers and then you have players in the league that are great transition finishers. Although there are many knock down shooters in the league, there is a difference between a shooter such as J. Harden and a shooter such as S. Curry. Now that I have an idea on how the new system will work, I have already begun to setup my roster.
Here are a few players I have listed so far:

(Although i don't expect everyone to agree with my take. I must say that, my ratings are completely unbiased. I am a fan of the NBA and the players and not of any specific team. I am a League Pass guy, I watch pretty much every game, every night, I base ratings on how I see them.)

(Even though i am a die hard Lebron fan and even though he is the best player on the planet. I believe i gave him the correct amount of badges so either he slightly overrated on the game or I am missing something.)

I can't wait to test out the new system and gameplay. The only thing I wonder about is if there will be a noticeable difference between someone who has a skill in gold and someone who has that same badge but in Bronze or Silver (I hope so).
Even as an unabashed Curry homer, there are way too many big men and athletic finisher type badges for him, IMO.

Same goes with Kyrie and inversely too many guard type skills for Love. Unless the new system hands out Bronze for any semblance of competence in that area.

This isn't exactly true. Read the description for what eraser does in game.

What big men and athletic finisher type badges are you referring to? And what guard type skills for Love are you referring to?

This is the description I found for Eraser in 2k14:

What it does: A successful shot block will raise all on-court teammates' stamina by 5% and will reduce the shooting attributes of the player who got blocked by 5 points for 15 seconds.

Has it been changed?

Ooh, just saw that it acts like an interior lockdown defender badge. That works.

For instance, I'm not sure I see Curry as a hop step and acrobatic finisher. He's more of a floater and high off the backboard guy and pulls out those moves only very situationally rather than relying on them. But if a Bronze badge is needed for even a modicum of competence, I suppose I can understand that.

I don't think tenacious rebounder is right for him either, even though he's a good rebounding guard defensively. It's more the scheme and his effort that could be replicated merely by good rebound ratings.

Post step back and drop steps shouldn't really be handed to guards that aren't elite post up players (certainly not Curry), and a high level step back freeze shouldn't be applied to Love, IMO.

Yeah check out the full list with description in the first post for what they do in 15.

Even many badges/skills that were in 14 have been revamped for 15. Check out the descriptions!

Ahh. What happened to Dialed-In, Post-Playmaker, and Fan Favorite? Those were some of the situation badges that made a lot of sense to me, and Dialed-In was great for representing streaky shooters. Are their effects folded into other skills, like say Microwave?

I really do like that ankle breaker and post proficiency has been broken out to individual skills. I like that I need to stick with spin moves and flip shots for David Lee instead of being able to pump fake like the Dream (which he never does). Does this mean that there are contextual "ankle breaking" animations that trigger for the right move only if you have proficiency in it? It's much better than the iso spamming to get an ankle breaker in the old system if that's the case.

Yeap that is what I thought Bed ...

Thus some of the new descriptions and few of the old are still way too vague ... as an example:

- What are "big plays" ?
- When does teammates start "performing poorly" ? How many of them should perform like that before badge kicks in ?
- Does "energizes" mean give stamina boost or something else ?
- How does a player gets "focused" ?
- What specific advantage does "orchestrating the pick & roll game as the ball-handler" gives ? better shots of the dribble ? better drives ? better passes ?
- Since they’re categorized as Outside Scoring, Inside Scoring, Athleticism, Playmaking, Rebounding and Defense badges ... is there any difference from "interior scoring badges" and "inside scoring badges" ?

I wonder how many badges KD has ?

I see what you mean about him being more of a floater type of guard but I have seen him on occasion pull off a drop step/acrobatic type of finish bUT not often that's why I gave him those skills in bronze. As far as the tenacious rebounding goes, Curry has games where he gets 6-10 rebounds then some games he will get 0-3. In 2k14 the tenacious rebounder dig skill always gave me those kind of results when I played with curry. Sometimes he would have quite a few rebounds and sometimes he wouldn't have any. I got better results going that route than giving him high rebounding ratings.

As far as post step backs, many guards actually use this shot, they may not back the defender down beforehand like big men do but trust me they do (d will, curry, klay, joe j, just to name a few). And as far as the step back for K love goes.... he uses the stepback a lot, it's how he gets open for a lot of those late game 3's he hit last year.

Mind games was in 2k14, Matt Barnes had it. Just affects opponent's rhythm

Do badges affect player progression? For example, will a player with the work ethic badge develop better and faster than most players?

Are you really using a fictional descriptor to describe someone in real life? Overpowered? By who, God?

But even allowing that funny thing to slide, 6'8" 260lbs, and one of the fastest players in the league with a ridiculous vertical, can play every position he's big enough to play?

Sounds like someone "overpowered' to me.

And I'm not familiar with exact fighting game parlance, but does overpowered mean invincible and perfect too? Cuz even Micheal Jordan didn't start winning titles till several years into his career. And he sure didn't do it alone.

Which is why the second-all-time leader in scoring and the all-time leader in both assists and steals have so many rings, right?

Oh wait.

Basketball is a TEAM game.

The fact that you watch basketball and don't love LeBron's game is funny to me

And it is very frustrating when my star teammate keeps passing me the ball back like it's a hot potato instead of being aggressive or taking the shot I set up for him (I play point). Yet when I watch from the bench everyone remembers how to play.

The biggest problem even with this is the delayed reaction. Sure if a guy is wide open a millisecond won't matter. But having to tell an open guy to shoot will still be a pain.

Like you I see this as a band aid problem for the long standing issue of having your teammates being dumb down. Which forces you to score 40 a game to stand a chance.

If you are running the offense you should be calling the plays that was my point. So in a rush to refute something I post you didn't even comprehend what I was saying.

They beat them the year before because the Spurs gave away Game 6. Either way, none of this has any weight on a videogame giving a virtual LeBron badges which are based off of skills not that he lost in the finals 3 times, which you are so keen to keep pointing out. We get it, we watch the NBA too, we know what happened. And we also realize you don't think he should have 47 badges, that's great. You're entitled to that. So just edit it when you get the game and be done with it.
