I had posted my thoughts on this in the Golf Club general discussion thread, but I'll move them here since this is more appropriate for them:

From the looks of the information contained in this article, it looks like they've made more sweeping fixes and improvements to the XB1 version than most of us would have imagined. The biggest impression I got from reading it was how much the point of "improved frame rate" was emphasized. I agree that it's the area that's in the most need for attention on both console versions of The Golf Club, but as an owner of each, I can easily say that it needs shoring up more with the XB1 version. Improved frame rate is cited as a benefit from changes and fixes in three separate bullets in the blog that are being treated by the patch:

1.) Several Memory Leak Issues

Improved stability.

Improved frame rate.

Course Saving error after a few hours of play – fixed.

Fixed crash that could occur if the user stayed on a certain screens for an extended period of time.

2.) Improved Performance

Optimisations, to improve frame rate.

3.) Audio

FMod Thread affinity fix.

Also improved frame rate of the game.

I think HBS is trying to emphasize that they understand the need for frame rate improvement in the XB1 version and I'm relieved to see that they are putting such a high priority on it. Regarding bullet #3, as a game coding layman, can someone explain to me how one improves the frame rate of a game via a change to the audio? I'n not saying it can't happen, I'm just trying to expand my understanding of the relationship between the two. I'm also unsure or what is meant by an "FMod Thread Affinity"?

One final note I'd like to add here is that I'd recalled that some 'graphics enhancement' would be seen in the XB1 version thanks to the new SDK that Microsoft has put in their hands. The only improvement item listed in the patch blog relating to the new SDK was "This fixed issues with blocky Terrain Editing within course designer." I was hoping that what this might have also meant in terms of graphics enhancement was the implementation of some degree of antialiasing, or perhaps and increase in the level of anisotropic filtering? Maybe it's there and the blog simply didn't mention it?

Nonetheless, I think we're going to have a much more stable and playable game once this patch is applied to the XB1 version of The Golf Club!

I hope most of these improvements make it to the PS4 soon as well.

Love the game, love hb studios, disappointed there is no mention of graphical improvement outside of frame rates.

For Xbox one users there is this at least...

Graphically we’re still working on improvements, but with the size of the area in view we really are putting a lot of pressure on the GPU. We can’t dictate what the player is seeing because, with the course editor, people could create anything. So to keep the frame rate high, we’ve needed to drop to 720p. We will continue to work on this though and slowly push to 900p and above. It’ll just take a bit of time.

The Executive Producer made the following comment in the official forum about the XBox One version patch when questioned about what you've brought up above:

"We have made small graphical improvements but we felt fps was more important at this stage so concentrated on that."

What that says to me there have been some improvements to the graphics in addition to frame rate improvements. The blog doesn't mention what those 'graphical improvements' are. I tried to get him to expound on that in the thread following his comment, but so far, no reply.

Does anyone have any ideas outside of antialiasing or anisotropic filtering that he could be talking about here? We already know a resolution increase won't be part of it...

Give it time, I'm sure after they polish the game experience a bit more they'll get into that.

No, I'm expecting it tomorrow at the earliest. They should have said 'week of September 22nd'

HB Studios reported Thursday that the latest information they have from Microsoft is pointing toward and early to mid-week release for the much needed XB1 patch. My guess is we'll see it Tuesday.

Hi all - I know that everyone on the Xbox One has been anxiously awaiting a patch for a couple of weeks now, so I wanted to update you on the latest information/development.

Late yesterday afternoon we received notification that Microsoft had failed the patch in the certification process for two items. This news came after we had believed that we had already been approved. It turns out that we had only been approved through step one of what, we now know, is a two-step process (something of which we were unaware and which was not made clear to us). We believed that we were simply waiting for the patch to be posted when, in fact, it was still in the certification process. This is a new process for us, and has also changed a bit for MS as well, and somewhere that information got lost in translation. This was a mis-communication between us and them and is a lesson learned.

That being said, we have been trying very hard to work with Microsoft to speed this patch through, as the items that we are being help up for do not effect the game in any noticeable way (one of them is actually about future-proofing the game). Unfortunately, they have not been able to accommodate us. Therefore, we have fixed the two issue and have resubmitted the patch.

We have been told that they will do what they can to get the patch out by Monday or Tuesday. But please know...that is not a promise.

In the spirit of keeping you as informed as possible, you should also be made aware that, if they are not going to be able to get the patch out before Weds. of next week, there is a possibility that we may have to pull the patch and include it in the content update that is scheduled for the following week, as they may not let us submit the content update until the patch has gone live. We are very hopeful this will not be the case, but it is a possibility and we wanted to give you all of the information we have. As soon as we know anything else we will, of course, tell you right away.

We are sorry that this first patch for the Xbox has been a bit complicated. Obviously, we did not want it to go this way. We are very grateful for your patience and understanding and we are hopeful you will find the wait worthwhile and will enjoy the improvements and enhancements that the patch and the upcoming content update bring.

Geezus. I want to play this game with the patch

Come on man!

# 14 TheDutchDad @ 10/01/14 03:56 PM
Patch process has to be the absolute worst thing about the XB1. The whole Microsoft certification process takes so flipping long. Things take way too long to get to their consumers. Love how on the PC once a dev has a patch, it's live the same day.

# 15 Klocker @ 10/01/14 05:18 PM
My guess is the cert process is so complex on Xbox due to the ever evolving nature of the dash OS. It is very complex and with monthly updates of features getting even more so.

Horizon 2 even had an issue yesterday with people in the preview dash. They pushed out a server side fix and a preview dash fix today

Still doesn't help me play golf any sooner

# 16 OnlookerDelay @ 10/01/14 08:31 PM
Today's news about the patch was a major buzz-kill! Yeah, I play the game on the PS4 also, but I'd like to be able to play it on my XB1 with my larger, more established Friend base on XBL. It's pretty obvious from this that HBS is in unfamiliar turf with Microsoft and the way they process patches. I don't doubt that as an Indie developer, they get sort of lower tier treatment. Still, I'm very disappointed that it will be at least 5 more days before we might have a shot at seeing a patch for the XB1 version

# 17 OnlookerDelay @ 10/04/14 10:08 AM
I should update my previous post about the patch delay for the XB1. The worst possible scenario is that if the patch isn't ready for distribution by Wednesday of this coming week, HBS will hold it back and bundle it with the update that is scheduled to be released the week after next, the way it's being presented now.

I know a good bit about what's going on with part of this patch in regard to the game's cameras and presentation options, but I've agreed not to disclose the details until HBS is ready to do so themselves. I can say that these changes will radically change the way I view and experience the game! It's almost going to seem like a new game to me, but I have a psychotic fetish about cameras and presentation These changes, along with what I'm hoping will be performance improvements via the patch should change a lot of attitudes about the game... mine - which is now an apathetic one - included

It is such a pain. Friend's score don't appear on my leaderboard and I don't have ghost balls to compete against.

Yeah, I found this to be the case in a tournament I created. The PS4 patch didn't fully fix this either. They're working on it according to the Community Manager, but we may not see the full fix until the update.

Tournaments? Mate, I can't even start or join a tournament because I get a disconnection error every time.

Very annoying because I like the game.
