NHL 15 News Post

The back of the NHL 15 box continues to add fuel to the fire that EASHL is not going to make an appearance in the final retail release. Rumors have been swirling for the past week or so that both EASHL and GM Connected have not made it into the current-gen versions of NHL 15.

With EASHL already confirmed for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, EA Sports has been quiet on announcing any modes for the newer generation console.

Today, back of the box details were revealed by Costco of all places. While the Xbox 360 version shows online multiplayer for 2-12 players, the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions only show 1-2 players -- which would tend to indicate EASHL has not made the jump onto the new generation.

Keep in mind the NHL team, despite having an extra year, is a much smaller team compared to other sports games produced by EA Sports. It's not unfeasible that even with the extra time the extra work needed for something like EASHL just presented too much of a challenge to the NHL team. If the mode is indeed not in the game, it is likely you will hear news about it next week as EA Sports plans to start announcing NHL 15 game modes next week.

It is also possible that the mode will not be in the game at launch, but could be patched in later. However, at this point we don't have much news on which modes have made it in or out of the game, so it's impossible to confirm or deny anything. Requests for comment from EA have gone unanswered -- which usually isn't a good sign.

Are you buying NHL 15 if either GM Connected or EASHL aren't in the game?

I'm kinda stoked to see that the PS4 version will have remote play. Doesn't look good for EASHL fans though, admittedly.

I'm not sure how that means no online multiplayer. TLoU Remastered's box has 2-8 Network Players and Online Play (Optional). The no EASHL thing is probably correct, though.

I might be misinterpreting the thread title - it's a bit confusing.

Ya, far from official, but it doesn't look good.

I don't play EASHL, so this doesn't bother me. From the looks of things, we can still play head-to-head games. It's a huge, HUGE omission, though. There had better be quite an explanation for this!

I don't think there's been a PS4 game yet that doesn't support Remote Play ...

Seeing those back of the box pictures on costco's website pretty much buried this game for me. I'd imagine its going to sell extremely poorly on the next-gen systems.

you're severely overestimating the importance of EASHL for the casual gamer and hockey fan

Nah I think he's right. EASHL was to NHL what Ultimate Team is to FIFA. I'd be surprised if it wasn't the most played mode in any NHL game to be honest

Just got to thinking.......... no way they'd have the cohannies to make EASHL a 5 or 10 dollar DLC would they? It is EA mind you. Certainly hope not

LOL what?

EASHL is basically MADE for casual hockey gamers. no worrying about maintaining rosters or contracts or anything of that nature, just hopping into lobbies and playing with a bunch of your friends. I dont see whats non-casual about that.

If vgchartz.com is to be believed, NHL 14 on the 360/PS3 sold 820,000 units. Instead of adding more content to the game to try to draw in more fans, they're (most likely) removing large chunks of content. Now you have to try to sell a game on four different platforms instead of two, and on two of those platforms the game is crippled. What are they going to sell on the XB1/PS4 combined? 50,000-100,000 units?

Is a game selling that poorly even worth making for a company the size of EA? Doubt it. This decision (if its true) might have killed this franchise.

LOL now that's entering the overstatement realm, quite honestly. Then again, it's not like you're in the industry, so you're merely spitballing with that hypothesis. Even if EASHL isn't in the game, it will likely only be a one year absence. When NHL 16 comes around and Rammer is advertising NEXT GEN EASHL, the franchise will suddenly "undeaden" itself, lol.

I hope that happens so maybe we'll see some new leadership making this game.. but I doubt it.

I'm not discrediting the mode, what I meant was for the casual player who isn't into hockey, they typically play with their friend in 1v1. Atleast thats how I am for NBA 2k, I'm not a huge basketball fan so I don't venture much further than online 1v1 and franchise, but it could be different for the casual NHL player

TBH, isn't EASHL something they could realistically patch in this year? Or is that too involved a process for a mid-season patch

Of course they COULD do it, but I can't imagine EA doing something that awesome
