Well it's a first year effort. Go back and play nhl 07 and the commentary was sorta barebones. This year they changed the way the recorded lines and looks like they did spend a ton of one in the audio department. Wait a year or 2 and we will have some great commentating (even though it sounds okay to me thus far) But by then people will be saying I'm sick of these guys and want new announcers

Looks fantastic! Much needed improvements. So glad they didn't rush a game out on PS4 last year. Doc and Eddy are a much needed improvement. The new decking system seems smoother. Atmosphere and arena noise is much better.

Is it just me or do guys with the puck change direction too quickly? Seemed a little unrealistic.

Also, some of the passes are still ridiculous. That backhand pass by Dylan Olsen (?) in front of his net went about 70 mph right on the money.

Looked pretty good otherwise. Considering EA's past, I didn't expect a big jump. I played a **** ton of '14 despite its flaws. Probably more of the same this year.

They got some work to do in the commentary department. I agree with others too robotic, no flow and a little choppy. But still can wait for the demo to come will it have play by play?

Dump in at 1:20 of video 1—thank heavens the physics-defying bounces are gone. Puck physics looks really good there.

Personally I think the graphics look last gen. I like the presentation but there's no intensity in the commentary at all. I'm pretty sure I'm skipping this title this year for the second straight year. No custom music(not EA's fault I know) or at least the real world goal songs for the NHL should be included in the game. Custom music is a HUGE deal for me but I would be willing to overlook it if they at least included the goal songs for every team.

Scoring goals with my Hawks without Chelsea Dagger playing isn't the same.

I am pretty disappointed in what I saw.

PROS
+Presentation looks incredible, they went all in on the NBC Sports integration.

CONS
-Commentary is a downgrade. They are waaaay behind the actual play and they neutered Doc Emrick. Its actually hard to listen to if you are famliar with Doc's normal over exuberance. The goal calls and good shot attempts in particular lack his signature emotion. It sounds like he rolled out of bed and recorded his lines. Super disappointing.

-Hitting and falling animations are awful. They look way worse that NHL14 where the ragdoll stuff at least looked somewhat believable on occasion. All the hits looked like canned animations from NHL07.

-Stickhandling looks ridiculous, they wasted the physic's guru as the puck is completely stuck to the stick whenever any deke is attempted, it looks awful and makes everyone look like that have the best dangles ever. No player separation in skills at all, as usual. Grinders can come down and toe drag with the best in the world without any drawbacks.

-Didn't see much improvement in the puck physics. They dumped it in the corner once or twice and the puck still bounced around a little too much. You can't really tell, because every pass was tape to tape and there were barely any deflections

-Defensive A.I. is still awful. The CPU didnt help either play much with positioning, they entered the zone at will and walked in on the goalie whenever they wanted. Hopefully this was just because the difficulty level was low...

Ill still pick the game up, hopefully it plays better than it looks and has EASHL and GM Connected

You read my mind. It's hard to judge the game especially if the guy playing d just like to hit.

I can't wait to play the demo so I will know if the AI improved and the gameplay in general.

Well....I guess Doc is not an actor.....its hard to comment on an imaginary game instead of seeing the actual action. I can give this a "pass". Disappointed but I could let this go. The before game looks good for me though.

game looks terrible. When the presentation wears off, just like it does in Madden where you start to skip intros, you're left with a graphical facelift of an outdated NHL engine. What did they really fix gameplay wise? Players sill fall like flies and the rag doll effects are absolutely brutal.

Looks good to me.

Still feels a little end to end but they were showing highlights and we have no idea if they were sim settings.

I'd like to see a couple of things in the final copy.

1. More mistakes. Passing errors, pucks coming loose etc

2. For it to be challenge to get it in the zone. The neutral zone needs to be a thing

# 53 Gagnon39 @ 08/15/14 09:42 PM
Overall, very underwhelmed.

More loose pucks? Nope. Tape-to-tape, tick-tack-toe passing all around. I'm sure it was on a low level and there were no slider tweaks but anyone that says that the gameplay looked drastically different is fooling themselves. And the jerseys? Sheesh. My worst fear from every EA title is that whatever is new is completely overdone. And once again, it seems that it is.

Look at the size of the lettering on the shot of Corey Crawford after the Blues score. It's laughable. The commentary will get very, very old. Very quickly. In fact, I missed Bill Clement and Gary Thorn before I got through both videos.

On the bright side, the NBC presentation looks amazing.

Maybe Doc's best lines are being saved for games that are like post season games? For the career modes and such.

And sliders will fix all the other stuff people are complaining about like passes and hitting. What's the big deal?

So sick of seeing the horrible no look play. The rebound at the 1:45 mark of the first video is typical EA NHL series. Iginla's rebound magically finds it's way to Duchene's stick without him even looking the right way. He's totally facing the other way for what ever reason. They will never get that right. Still seeing the weird puck behind the player that magically knows it's back there and somehow gets his stick back there to get it.

I love your optimism. But as a long-time sports gamer who's literally had every copy of EA's Sports NHL title since NHLPA 93 on the Sega Genesis, I'm going to say that what we saw in the video is what we're getting. Don't get me wrong, I'm still buying it day one, and I'm sure I'll play it quite a bit. But it's not shaping up to be what I was hoping for.

We just pretty much fixed a bit that in 14. Very aggravating situation. Noticed it made its way into 15. "Destination Puck" I call it. Guys aren't in the scoring position or great defensive position, the puck finds them. Not physics, attribute based. Theory, strong theory anyway.

Hopefully sliders will loosen that puck the way we just loosened it in 14.

I'm upset that it's all Xbone footage. Must mean they feel the game looks best running with Xbone. It's making me rethink which next-gen console to get...

# 59 drog1602 @ 08/15/14 11:23 PM
The good:
Presentation wise the game looks good.
I liked some of the multiple collisions
Was nice to see a puck deflect over the glass, but where is the netting?

The bad:
Goalies look the same
Dmen have issues turning around
Hits are too arcade
No loose pucks, and passes are all perfect
Too many soft goals from far out on soft wrist shots
No emotions in the commentators voices
Crowd noise seems lame
Way, way, way too easy to deke and the AI dmen do nothing
D still backs in

I'm pretty underwhelmed by Doc.. This really has me sad. It reminds me when Madden next gen came out and the robotic announcing that game had.. I don't know what to say.. WIll I get the game Yep! However, I am pretty put off by the commentary alone. Sooo Sad
