Announcing EA Access for Xbox One: The Best Way to Play EA’s Games

Today we’re revealing a new way for gamers to play more EA games. This is something we’ve never done before and we’re excited to share it with you.

We have partnered with Microsoft to deliver EA Access, an all-new monthly (or annual) membership for gamers exclusively on Xbox One that starts at just $4.99 a month. The service is being rolled out in beta to a limited number of players today, but it will launch for everyone on Xbox One soon. At EA, we are always looking for new ways to make it easier for gamers to play more EA games across all platforms, and we are excited about what EA Access will offer to players on Xbox One.

EA Access membership unlocks The Vault, a collection of EA’s biggest games on Xbox One ready for you to download and play. During the beta, gamers will have unlimited access to four great EA games: FIFA 14, Madden NFL 25, Peggle 2 and Battlefield 4™, with more titles being added soon. That’s over $100 worth of games for $4.99 a month. You can play these EA favorites as much as you want with the click of a button.

EA Access is a totally new way for you to play more of the games you love, for less. Here’s a rundown of the additional benefits EA Access members will get:

Awesome Value – Besides the great games in The Vault, EA Access members will save 10% on purchases of EA digital content for Xbox One offered through the Xbox Games Store. From full digital-download titles like the upcoming Dragon Age™ Inquisition or NHL®15, to additional membership services such as Battlefield 4 Premium or even FIFA Ultimate Team points, it’s all 10% off for members.*

Play First – Membership in EA Access lets you experience trials of new EA games up to five days before the release date.* It starts with Madden NFL 15, NHL 15, FIFA 15, NBA LIVE 15, and Dragon Age: Inquisition, but more are on the way. If you decide to buy the game, your progress will carry over so you can pick up right where you left off.

You can join EA Access for just $4.99 per month, or you can purchase an annual membership for $29.99 per year on Xbox LIVE®.

Soon, fans of GameStop will be able to purchase their EA Access membership in local retail stores. GameStop and Amazon will also carry EA Access memberships for Xbox One gamers across Europe, as well as EB Games in Canada.

I've been using it since this past Monday.

The access to Fifa has made these 2 weeks prior to madden so much easier.

Traded in Battlefield 4 to cover half the cost.

Just curious on how quickly they add more games.

Yes it did and I was hoping we would get the same with EA Access but nothing so far. It would really help with knowing the schedule for future releases as well such as NHL 15.

I was about to buy this but the posts on OS and Twitter made me second guess trying this thing.. Is it worth it for those of you who got it?

For me, it's worth it. I want Madden early, but that is really on the low end of it. I already had battlefield, so I just traded it in for 20 bucks to cover some of the cost. I also wanted Fifa 14, so I can play that as well. Now I'm just waiting for some other games to be added.

I guess the question really is what games are you going to use it for?

Has EA made any announcements on the content that will be available for the games that you can play 5 days prior to release? I know its been said that the content will vary from game to game but I've not seen any specifics.

I've held off getting this as I would not be interested for instance if they only allow you to play practice mode in Madden for a couple of hours. The full game for 5 days would be a different story.

I'm not buying Madden this year due to the no CPU vs. CPU in franchise mode but I would like to try it out, the full game that is. And this would probably be the deciding factor if I buy the NHL game or not. Not really interested in that demo, just want to try the full game out.

I agree with you and it's something a lot of us are trying to figure out as well. The wording EA uses on the app is a bit ambiguous:

"Play First.

In addition, members can try EA's XBOX One games five days before the release date."

The questions that can arise from that statement:

Does this mean that we can try the game for five full days leading up to release, similar to what the Season Ticket (ps3, 360) allowed for 3 days?

Or does it mean we can try a game once (or for a limited time) during the 5 days leading up to release?

I wish we had definitive answers to this, and it's confusing all of us as to why there are no answers. Maybe it's just black & white, you can play the game for a full 5 days, and EA need not explain it further. Or maybe it's something more disingenuous and they want as many people to subscribe before clarifying what exactly is going on. Obviously, we all hope it's the former.

I'm pretty sure they have said every game will be a case by case situation as far as the play early thing goes.

I truly understand the cautious approach many are taking especially since money is involved. But there is no scenario where I can imagine where this would be different than Season Ticket [which they brought back ] in which you had an almost completely unlocked game with no time limits on it for sports games. To handle that differently in this case would almost guarantee failure going forward based on the precedent set by Season Ticket coupled with the fact that it's more expensive.

I think everyone is over thinking it. You get the full game 5 days before. This is their way of eliminating people buying a game for 80-100 bucks to get it early. It's just like the EA Sports Season Ticket.

While I also expect the sports game to be unlimited during the early access period, I think pointing at the higher price of EA Access and claiming that automatically means the early access period must be unlimited as well is overlooking the fact that EA Access offers other benefits that Season Ticket does not, namely the free games in the Vault and a 10% discount on the digital release of the full game.

Season Ticket was/is 3 days prior to release date. EA Access is 5 days prior.

Good point. I should have taken that into account.

Yeah me too.

Season Ticket started at 6pm Friday and ended at 6AM Tuesday.

So I wonder will it be released at 6pm Wednesday? I'm hoping...

# 438 ODogg @ 08/16/14 04:35 PM
So will this be the full game and we can play it unlimited or is it crippled and/or a time limit? Anyone confirmed yet?

# 439 colkilla @ 08/16/14 04:44 PM
My guess is sometime Friday...
