Dynasty Football News Post

I recently had a chance to do a pretty thorough Q & A with Eric Kneipfer, the mind behind and creator of Dynasty Football, which hopes to follow in the footsteps of such great PC simulation games as Out of the Park Baseball, Front Office Football, and Football Manager. It's with this vision, and a passion for sports and indie gaming, that Eric comes to Operation Sports to tell us about the game. Read on to find out the details!

Speaking with Eric, I can't help but root for him to succeed. He has a passion and a vision for this game, and while I may be a bit biased, I believe in what this game is trying to accomplish.

Sounds awesome. I hope everything works out. I will be checking for it. I'll check the Kickstarter campaign as well.

I'm going keep my eyes out on this one...

I wish it had a way to play the college game, but I'm still very interested!

Looks like it might be pretty good, from the youtube video the only thing that bothered me was how the field scrolled.
I think a smoother transition or just zoomed out slightly would do wonders (and save me from going cross eyed)

How much will this cost?

Can this game be played on a tablet??

Thanks for all the support I've received the last few days, everyone. The Kickstarter campaign for Dynasty Football is going to start around July 1st. I'll post a link here when it's ready to go.

I've already received some great help with the presentation side of the game. I think the end product is going to look much more slick than what I have here. Kickstarter money will go to the people who work with me.

Sorry to say that the game will only be on the PC

I have no idea what I will charge when it's finished. What do people think?

This almost seems to good to be true

Is there a way that this could be made for the PS3?

Good question. I really think you would need a mouse to access the context menus and to draw the patterns for play design - it would be very awkward with a controller (PS4's touchpad is might be a close approximation though). The good news is this game won't be a heavy drain on PC resources so any PC would work (although a fast PC would be beneficial for simming games).

A tablet would work pretty well though using a touch screens instead of a mouse. It would be like drawing plays in the sand when you were a kid. Maybe if this version is successful...

Most of the text based games I have bought have been around $35.00 But I have no idea for a game just starting. Around $30 or so seems fair.

You could do something similar to what OOTP does. Preorder by a certain date and get $5.00 off and the game 3 days early.

I have been working with a very skilled graphics artist the last few days. Would this theme make the game more visually appealing? (this is a bit of a rhetorical question)

Absolutely, I think that'd be a big improvement.

And I'm officially a supporter. Bring on the Kickstarter.

Awesome game. You are an inspiration. I am currently completing the AI for my sports game which is going to launch on iOS (iPad 3 and up), then Windows 8.1 and Android high definition devices.

I hope you do extremely well.

By the way, what .NET language are you using? I taught myself C++ then C# - and I love it. I know it takes time though so I know what you mean. Are you using WPF or Windows Forms?

Again, best wishes to your success.

Thanks, and good luck to you in your sports programming venture. Be sure to promote what you have when the time is right here on OS. They have been awesome to me.

My game is in VB.net, by the way in Windows Forms.

I'm really excited for this game because I think that you went about the project in the completely right way. The heart of any game, especially in text-based sims, is the game-play and immersion. Just from the video and screens, it looks like you have really put a lot of work and thought into the engine. No one is going to care about graphics or UI if the game-play is awful. Look at Front Office Football, there was/is an active community even while development was dormant for many years simply because of the game-play.

An active modding community can do wonders with graphics and mods if you open it up to them. This is why I think in part OOTP & Football Manager are so successful. It's amazing how mods can take games to new heights.

Don't let anyone rush you with the game's development. This has been the downfall for so many games. The people that complain about the release date and "when is it going to be finished" are the same ones that will complain about errors and bugs when it is finally released. Release the game when you feel it is ready and don't be pressured by release dates.

With the kickstarter campaign, will there be incentives for pledging certain amounts (i.e. Beta Access or getting the game a few days earlier than the release)?

For a simulation game I would of liked to hear he was a high school football coach at one point. Doesnt seem like he has any practical world experience in the game of football which concerns me.
