Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR News Post

EA Sports has just released the first trailer for EA Sports PGA TOUR. The game will be the first EA Sports title to utilize the Frostbite 3 engine and arrive in the Spring of 2015.

“Frostbite 3 is really the perfect piece of technology for us to use as we create EA SPORTS PGA TOUR,” said Executive Producer Brent Nielsen. “There is no better engine out there for creating complex, lifelike environments, and it has allowed us to recreate some of the world’s most beautiful courses, as well as create some new ideas of our own. Also, for the first time ever we’re offering a game that’s completely free of load times after you start your round, allowing you to move seamlessly from one green to the next tee without breaking immersion.”

"The technology driving EA SPORTS PGA TOUR opens up so many new opportunities," said Denise Humphreys, PGA TOUR Senior Director of Partnerships. "Two of our favorite new features are the ability to play from hole to hole with no load time, plus having views of the entire course, allowing the gamer a more real-world experience."

The game will feature both real and fantasy courses, presumably both sim and more arcade elements as well. Expect to hear more about EA Sports PGA Tour in the coming months.

That was atrocious... Thanks EA for killing any semblance of a PGA Tour sim. You know full tour roster, tons of real courses and real tough game play.... but no more arcade crud. Thankful for the golf club to get a sim experience.

I'm am lost so I will ask this. Instead of adding more courses that haven't been in the game such as Congressional, they add fantasy course? And based on the trailer I assume no realistic tour?

I was hoping the year off was going to be spent expanding on the strides they had made with the last few TW games and finally fix some of the bugs that have plagued the series recently. Guess they decided to spend the year off by bring BF4 to the PGA.

is there any way to get people less excited about a golf game than to stick a bloody warship in there?

ridiculous - i hope with their next reveals they show what theyve done for the simulation side - are they trying to get cod players to play this game? madness

Glad you finally see the light DivotMaker :-) we've butted heads over this title for years, but this was the direction I could see this game headed a long time ago. It was clear then and clear now that the devs just don't understand what we want out of a golf game, or even truely understand the game of golf itself!

The Golf Club can't come quick enough

Come on EA. Stick to creating a solid , accurate Golf game & leave the gimmicks for a different game.

I actually like the multiple styles of game play in one game anyway. I wish madden and nba live would also contain their "street" versions of games to go along with the normal game too, that would be pretty awesome.
pffft I bet it would be one of the majors.

I really did not like the trailer at all. I feel like they are once again making an arcade style golf game that is going to be as easy as all the others. The fantasy golf course idea is cool, but I want to play authentic courses that feel like the real deal. I've played a couple big courses and know what it feels like, and as a video game I know it can never be the same, some video games do a decent job of portraying real life atmospheres. I do not feel like this game is going to do that at all, but we shall see.

I agree. Didn't NHL ship one year with a gimmick 3 on 3 game attached to it. I am fine with that, but honestly not a fan of losing PGA course for fantasy course.

Now if these fantasy courses are DLC and we get a good list of PGA course then I don't care and I am fine with this.

But I was turned off by the trailer as a whole and if this ends up being even more arcade than the previous gen, then this just may be the first EA Golf title I pass on since I starts playing PGA TOUR on the Sega Genesis. What a huge letdown so far.
Good post, Divot.

When I watched this trailer, I was mesmerized by it...right up till the Michael Bay Fantasy Course.

I am not a fan of over-the-top fantasy courses (or fantasy courses in general that are too full-scale miniature golf; "YOU'RE GONNA DIE, CLOWN!!!"). Obviously EA is trying to appeal to....someone else out there and capture a new audience to boost sales. I know this series doesn't print money like Madden and FIFA do, so I can see things from a business perspective but this may not be the right approach.

I loved the direction we were going with Country Clubs; why not figure out ways to continue to grow that aspect of the game, like having a physical representation of the CC in-game that you can build/choose/modify and personalize, along with some CC minigames like long-ball contests and trick shot contests, ala 'Tin Cup'?

Having said all of that, I'm still pumped about playing in a CC again next year for TW, and especially playing on the real courses with licensed gear in full PS4 glory.

As to competition, this is a grand opportunity for The Golf Club to step up and establish themselves before TW comes out next year, and I am looking forward to playing it for its particular strengths and what it offers, especially in terms of course creation and the community aspects.

But man, I loves me some real PGA courses and I hope in the next round of promotions for PGA Tour we get more details on what we want: the PGA aspects, what courses to expect, gameplay changes/improvements, and Country Clubs.

I was intrigued right until the ship, but I have a feeling that was more for showing off the frostbite 3 engine which looks amazing. Really hope this one is not all about the fantasy courses, if so it'll definetly turn the more serious golfers like myself away. Also hoping they put cbs in the game this year. Presentation in a golf game would go a long way.
