EA Sports UFC News Post

EA Sports UFC will not be an annual title (previously mentioned as a possibility by Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson). The second installment is scheduled to arrive in 18 to 22 months. However, there will be plenty of free DLC roster updates coming for EA Sports UFC, according to Creative Director Brian Hayes.
  • It is not an annual title. The 2nd UFC game could be in 18 months or another 22. Once this game is released it will still continue to get support and "Roster" updates and such. It won't just be released and done.
  • When I asked him about missing fighters (Like last night's new BW Champion, T.J. Dillashaw), he said they will try and get new fighters put in the game often (especially if T.J. had won tonight -- and he DID!) He said these types of "Roster Updates" would be free-of-charge. They would only charge for "DLC Fighters" if they were specialty ones. i.e. like a different Bruce Lee or "Younger" version of fighter. He said people would probably ask why Tito or Rampage are not in the game, but those type of added fighters would probably get turned down by Dana White.
Also in the article, UndisputedOnline has posted their hands-on impressions of the game, along with a ton of screenshots showing off many details that haven't been revealed yet.

Awesome. Hopefully these free roster updates make their way towards the WWE2k series, as well.

These have been the two best sources of information for EA UFC so far.

This type of releasing should be also for FIFA, NHL or other EA Sports-titles.

Yes. Huge win for gamers IMO.

Very happy to hear this. I also hope that TJ Dillashaw is available in a day one DLC. The champ needs to be in the game, period, at launch.

Free roster updates = awesome

As far as not being an annual release I'm a bit disappointed, especially since this game is going to be a bit bare bones, both in and out of the octagon. I would almost prefer that they delay the release for another few months so they can add things like an Fighter Share, Event Mode, the option to adjust game speed, Doctor Stoppages, the ability to catch kicks, etc.

I mean, I'm certainly ready for another UFC game. However, I'm looking for one that can rival the time I had with UFC 3 and unless this one completely knocks my socks off with it's gameplay, then I don't know if it's going to get the play time that I spent with UFC 3..... And if it doesn't then I'm in for another looonnng wait.

UFC 3 was great and has had excellent longevity, but now it's time for a new king, and hopefully EA UFC will be it.

I can't see TJ being in on day one but hopefully not long after.

Since Hayes mentioned him specifically, I'll put him in at a 85% chance he's a day one DLC.

Definitely excited for this game, almost as much excitement as The Show brought with it, at least for me....but it is missing some key elements of MMA that most in-depth fans will notice are missing and will be very displeased waiting 2 years for.

Functions such as performing feints, catching strikes, standing submissions, doctor/cut stoppages, and fighter share are definitely elements that should be key to any MMA game. For me, the inability to perform any type of feint is the biggest eye-opener, especially since this is a very fundamental aspect of any combat sport, let alone MMA. I utilized this greatly in UFC Undisputed 3, and it will definitely feel like a key aspect of game play is missing without the ability to feint.

Fighter share was a legal decision. They didn't want to have to monitor peiple posting licensed enteties likenesses like Rocky Balboa, Floyd Mayweather, and rival orgs Fighters. And have to keep taking them down so they don't get sued.

That's a bogus excuse. I can go on FNC and download Mayweather, Balboa, etc with no problem. They can't do anything to someone that creates a guy in the game, since EA didn't license him and had nothing to do with it.

They shouldn't be able to do anything about someone making a CAF but I don't think they want to open themselves up to the potential of legal action in the future.

It's a safe, if a bit of an unpopular decision which I think will make sense.

No way that's true, the MLB the Show team doesn't have the licence for minor league players, so all of the minor league players are fake generated guys.

But there is a roster vault, and every year guys on OS make a roster with all of the real life minor league players and upload it to the vault. No problem.

That's what the developers said, I'm not making it up, honest! 😇

This would sound a lot better if they swapped release years with Fight Night.

Cool they'll be adding fighters between proper releases. Not cool that folks will be waiting almost 2 years for additions & improvments, especially fundamental things like feints & catching kicks.

Hopefully this somehow means the next release will be that much better.

Sounds good. Hopefully, they go with the original plan, which was to release a UFC, then a Fight Night, back and forth, etc. I can deal with a UFC, but what I personally want to get my hands on is a current gen Fight Night.

And If the Minor league players ever wanted to file a suit like the O'Bannon case, believe me, roster vaults would be gone from the show as well.

Exactly. Two things are behind this:

1) The O'bannon case scared the hell out of EA and they dont want defend against another likeness lawsuit even though the law is technically on their side.

2) They had a run-in with the UFC when it came to EA MMA's Fighter Share. When the UFC realized there were thousands of versions of fighters under UFC contracts that were downloadable through Fighter Share, they sent EA a cease and desist letter. EA responded by not only removing most of those fighters but removing the audio that announcers used to call them their names.

In the pre-patched version of the game, announcers would say "St. Pierre" or "Lesnar". In the patched version, those audio files were gone.
