MLB 14 The Show News Post

It’s been more than a month since MLB 14: The Show released on PS3, and for many of us, April was agonizingly long month. As a community, we collectively waited for the release of our favorite baseball game on PS4 by analyzing every piece of news and video, playing lots of The Show on PS3, or perhaps just watching real baseball. My short trip to San Francisco to play the new version with the developers was an all too brief tease, as were the gameplay videos and Puig/Pence showdown.

The month is over, however, and those with the interest and ability probably have the next gen version of The Show firmly planted in their PS4s. If you are still looking for info and deciding whether to jump in, read on to see my thoughts on this latest edition of Sony’s hardball title.

You have two options for slides, assist and on. Assist is the better of the two as ON, the CPU will decide all slides and with assist you can decide the slide unless you're late with it and the CPU will decide it.

I play the game every year. I can't believe I never noticed that option. It's weird they don't have an "off" option.

Thanks for the heads up.

Here is my review that I posted yesterday: http://www.stealthybox.com/mlb-14-the-show-review/

(Steve said it was alright to do this on Twitter).

Fair review; online has to my mind never been what other franchises can deliver. Still the best/most complete/most customizable/most feature-set game available, and lots of fun to play!

it looks like to me if you dont play online and i dont that this game is a solid 9 without the online issues.

Accurate review but I'm still waiting for full career stats for players and not just the last season. Better tracking of awards from year to year is much needed to improve the franchise mode, which in my opinion has been stale for years. Gameplay is good, graphics are also good, but player models have to be redone.

Valid criticism? Blame the player. That makes sense.

I love this game. It is the first time I have owned a The Show game, and I am awful at the game (Lost 0-15 today in my Cubs 'chise) but nonetheless it is everything I was expecting.

"There are additional animations as well, but I’ve had a hard time pinpointing exactly what’s new. While at Sony HQ, I was shown a “slap hit” animation, which looked good, so I know that they are there..."

What? How did this slip past the editor?

I will tell you what is new -- crowd animations. Outside of the slap swing I do not think there are any new gameplay related animations.

The sheer amount of options they give for control and tweaking of the game to suit any player level is needed in all sports games IMO. Graphics at times are lifelike. Audio when using headphones or a 7.1 system is very good compared to other sports games even with the loss of Sounds of The Show. People should give Sony a tweet or two on that as well.

Bottom line, this game deserves praise for it gameplay and offline play. It also deserves major criticism for its online play.
Could not agree more

Those 300 plus animations that are specific to the PS4 are all there.

I havent seen many new Catcher animations either but I still see alot of the jumping out of the box down the line ones in super speed and yes player models , Catcher gear and the overdone scribbled on beards all need to be redone and SCEA keep the overlays and screens new every year as its like a fresh coat of paint and different from last years game .

But quick counts is just amazing so I hope SCEA doesnt tweak it into a version of the regular full count game as some suggest as it does whats its supposed while still staying ultra realistic and statistically accurate , just a incredible addition !

I would think it's obvious that the developers were overworked this year with the PS4 release. The PS3 version was released a month later than usual. I don't blame them at all.

The work that goes into developing a game like this can't be put into words. Things will be done to correct something, which changes something else, then that needs to be adjusted. It goes on and on and on.

To sum up my point: Anyone who expected to be blown away by the PS4 version wasn't being realistic. I bet MLB 15 for the PS4 will amaze you though.

I disagree with a lot in this review. Seems like he's paid to talk it up. I doubt he is it just reads that way. Graphics are far from incredible and framerate sucks sometimes.

You've come to wrong place if you're looking for a balanced review of this game. Not saying the game is bad, but besides glossing over some of the more major issues, the negatives with this game (some of which have been present for 4-5 generations) are never even mentioned in the reviews.

Good review. Game is great.
Online needs some love but overall I'm very happy with the game and it's been fun every time I fire it up.
Can't wait to see the what the future holds for the PS4 version.

MLB The Show is the greatest reason why I'm going to buy a PS4. EA Sports should bring back MVP Baseball, though.

Because everything else EA has done has worked out so realistic....
