NHL 15 News Post

What did you think of the NHL 15 reveal and teaser trailer?

Chris Sanner: I was not expecting to see much from the teaser trailer and we didn't get much. Next-gen hockey is going to be pretty, that makes sense and was expected. I honestly can't wait to see some gameplay.

The new physics sound like they could be a winner as part of the whole EA Sports Ignite (is that still a thing?) next-gen platform. The skill stick could be interesting as well. The big thing I think I'm looking forward to though, apart from the physics will be the new commentary team, presentation package, and in-arena atmospheres. I'm optimistic for the ever solid and highly regarded NHL series on next-gen.

I was really disappointed by the teaser video. Basically showed nothing of interest to me. Would have liked to seen some player and/or crowd models, some skating - something of even a little substance.

After all these years, main thing I've learned from video games.....you can never truly judge a game until you play it for yourself. Gameplay videos from the company help somewhat, gameplay videos and reviews from regular people help alot more, but the real help comes from playing it yourself which unfortunately isn't possible unless you buy it.

I was very pleased by today's trailer and all the info released.
Since NHL 07 the presentation upgrades have been positive but very incremental. The series has definitely been known for its gameplay more than its authentic aesthetics and presentation. In my mind I have justified the past 3 years of little presentation upgrades based on the fact that there'd be a big upgrade for next gen, and that appears to be what we're getting. The cracked steps and authentic seats @ Joe Louis Arena are a fantastic detail.
I think the announcing duo update is good, I never had an issue with Thorne/Clement, but it's time to start fresh with the more relevant (to US fans).
I actually like the current gen puck physics (outside the way they've tuned the dump in puck bounces). They seems to be fairly intuitive/believable outside the occasional glitchy situation where the puck rockets for no reason. I would be very impressed if this feels much better. It'd be neat to see players getting bad wood on fluttering rebounds and losing pucks when they bounce on end.
I'm a bit skeptical on the player likenesses, it looks like they put forth a big effort to get a bunch of faces, which is great and probably necessary to convert to the new graphics, but I'm hoping they make an assertion that they'll be able to better keep up with new faces in future games, and perhaps add faces mid season.
More authentic arenas should be great. It sounds like they're finally catching up to the other sports games. Hopefully they're making licenses a priority.
I don't expect a lot of gameplay upgrades this year, i'm mostly hoping for a smooth translation from current to next gen, hopefully the physics upgrades will push the series to a more sim on-ice feel.

Love how the sweaters will move with the skater. Really love hearing about incidental contact!

As with anything with EA at this point I'm very cautiously optimistic.

I don't hate the game as is as much as some though so I'm sure it will be fine to me and I'm really looking forward to it on the ps4.

I already love NHL 14 and NHL 15 sounds like it's going to be a nice step up, so I'm really excited for September. I'm really loving the presentation bump, arenas, and the little extra details like the potential to have people moving in the aisles and the correct officiating crew on the ice.

sounds like its going to be good, but the one thing I hope they fix ,make it harder to get into the offensive zone, more dump and chase.

game trailers are nothing more than smoke and mirriors....Let me play it and sample it's options and features and then I will formulate an opinion.

I always have mixed feelings about NHL news, but only because it means that I have to deal with the following: April/May is when winter is finally behind us here in Finland, and a short summer is just around the corner. With the NHL news trickling in, I can't wait for September, but at the same time I'm thinking that when the new game is here, summer is over already

TL;DR Can't wait for nextgen hockey!

I cannot remember when was the last time EA implemented this in I vs CPU mode. Which is so disappointing since most of the random players you play online are horrible cheaters. You need to play with your trusted friends to see this neutral zone play.

For me this is one of the important "bullet points" that EA should implement in NHL 15 if not....see ya in 16 (hopefully).

Since this is just the first trailer of the game.... its hard to decide. Thinking of trailers, how many times i took the bullet because of trailers...but in the end i despise myself in buying another EA NHL. I'll wait even after the release, or even rent it out first, before buying.
