MLB 14 The Show News Post

The folks at Sony have released a brand new video detailing the new features and enhancements in MLB 14 The Show on PlayStation 4. Here are some highlights from the video:
  • Player lock is done before a game in the lineup screen in exhibition and before you start your season in season based mode.
  • Manager mode and sportscast manager modes are in the game as well.
  • Manage mode in season based modes allows you to select pitch strategies for each at-bat: pitch around, pitch aggressive, low, high, inside, outside, high and in, high and away, low and in, low and away.
  • Offensively you can have batters take the pitch, do a hit and run, sacrifice bunt, bunt for hit, and pinch hit.
  • In Sportscast Manager, you can manage the game before jumping in later in the action. Quick counts and player lock are both available when jumping into a game.
  • The new information bar at the bottom shows info from your franchise mode or real MLB games, depending on what mode you are in.
All in all the video didn't reveal much that was new, but offers plenty of glimpses at the gameplay coming our way in a week! What did you think of the video?

Just how clear, clean and crisp is this behind the pitcher shot.

Incredibly lifelike, you have to double take to realise its a video game on some of these shots, this being one of them.

Again, click for larger picture.

Pretty sure it is, yeah. Seems about as dramatic as that hated HR celebration cam to me....lol. Not sure why people on this board would like it so much.

As an avid ballpark enthusiast, I gotta say...from the videos, they've completed nailed the look and feel of Fenway, Wrigley and AT&T Park. Having been to a few games at each, they really seem o have accurately captured the colors and lighting of each place (especially Fenway day games in the sun).

The sky transitions at AT&T are fantastic as well. Can't wait to play some evening games at Dodger Stadium and night games at PNC Park and Camden Yards as those parks are great venues for night games.

As for the player models and animations, my assumption before any footage was ever shown was that those would be tackled in '15. I'm more than happy with the apparent enhancements on PS4 this year (and then some)

Would be great if they begin rendering individual players ala NBA 2K 14 in next years version with authentic HR swings/follow throughs and updated accessories.

In three years, this game as a baseball sim may be about as close to perfection as we may ever get for a sports game on a console.

I'm not all that impressed by these videos, features, etc. But I'm not expecting to be either. They got a good thing going, and are continuing to build on it with care and consideration. Can't really ask for much more.

I know it will be great but it does look like the ps3 which is not a bad thing. Hopefully the more animations will make it look even smoother.

I also have it hooked up to a smart tv, so not sure if that is allowing it to run youtube for some reason. Either way I for sure used the PS4 browser so I know it's possible.

If you have been to AT&T Park, then you know that the sky transition isn't accurate (in that the sun doesn't fall behind any outfield areas to yield "yellow sunset syndrome").

I noticed the same thing, the animation maybe him look like he just lobbed it in, hopefully that wasn't the final build or was done on purpose.

I liked the new menus at the bottom during franchise, but I wish it was more in detail just like the MLB.com ones. I'd love it if the season/franchise mode ticker had the basic in game stats accompanying the score and W/L pitcher. I hope they can pull that off this year, or maybe that I missed something in the video.

The management options look fantastic, I only wish there was a Dugout View to really immerse yourself fin the MLB manager experience.
