Question for you guys who are saying that playing with the top teams is too "arcade-y", however you want to describe it. Did you lower the passing accuracy sliders?

I'm playing on manual passing, and have lowered the CPU's passing accuracy. Even when playing as 5 star teams, both me and the CPU miss some passes, which in turn obviously slows the game down.

I have a few questions:

I bought the game a few days ago and have been messing around in friendlies and personally it looks much better and feels way slicker than FIFA 14 to me

Does player overalls increase in Road to Wolrd Cup mode? Like in career mode on FIFA? Does it decrease when they hit 30? Would like to know if there is a growth system and if so how it works.

I tried a few skill moves and 3 star skill players seem to be able to do 4 star skill moves like Berba spins, rabonas etc. What did they change in terms of skill moves?

Did anyone notice how defenders seem to jump from a few metres behind you to intercept lobbed through balls and corners? Any way to prevent this?

Anyone else having trouble with lobby through balls?

Anyone think the AI makes less silly errors and seems more competitive especially if your a lower team playing against Germany, Spain etc.?

Answers would be appreciated thanks!

Well I am also going the full qualification route with Latvia. I went to Riga for work a couple of years ago and I'll say that the stadium and surroundings renderings are reasonably good.

I'm having the plunging ratings issue as well. I have not changed anything with respect to rosters.

I hadn't been tracking the ratings closely but after reading this thread I decided to check it out. After a dozen or so games I compared them to those of a 'play now' Latvia roster and 9 out of 11 players were lower on my qualifying squad despite being tied for first place in my group. :-(

1. Player overalls seem to increase/decrease with form. Some people have been having issues with player form dropping randomly. I haven't had any issues. As far as I know, there are no issues with players over 30. Klose starts at 84 I think? I've had him as high up as 89.

2. I have no idea about skill moves. I find them pretty much useless playing online past the basic ones, so I rarely use them.

3. I haven't noticed this personally, but I'll keep a look out for it now. I would suggest lowering the CPU acceleration a bit. Might help. or the marking slider.

4. Had no problems with through balls in terms of playing them myself. Faced a few people online who tried to abuse them. I play as Germany almost always. Played Argentina, who should be fast than my defenders. His aerial through balls were placed well, but my defenders were able to jostle the attacker out of the way. Haven't had any real problems with them at all.

5. I haven't played any huge teams yet in my Montenegro campaign. But just playing as Ivory Coast/Japan, I've noticed that 5* teams tend to play together really well. Playing against North Korea as Japan and then against France definitely has a difference. NK makes some really aweful passes (as they should) compared to France.

And yeah, I am really liking this game. I find it difficult to go back to playing FIFA 14 after I play the WC game for a while. Its just sooooooo much smoother and fluid than FIFA 14.

Hands-down my favorite FIFA game to date, only thing close to it is the ol' WC2006 on PS2.

This is excellent, just excellent- fluid gameplay, everything works. The crosses aren't as over-powered as before and you're rewarded for keeping the ball on the ground.

Currently running full qualifications tournaments with Canada (struggling, albeit realistically, with the likes of Santa Lucia and Puerto Rico) and Scotland (currently tied with England atop our qualifying group, and abusing the wings with Ikechi Anya )

It's more the playing style and tactics of the top teams than anything that can be addressed by sliders. Spain should not be counter-attacking and making dive bomber runs every single time they get possession. It's the same issue I had with FIFA 13. Spent way too much time tweaking sliders and team tactics in futility back then.

Gameplay is excellent on this game. Best soccer game out there IMO. But the major bugs that this game was released with is kind of embarrassing...

Did they test this stuff?

Sidenote: Not sure what method was used for Brazil considering they didn't have to qualify. My assumption is that they just picked players that played in the friendlies in the past 3-4 years.
That's interesting, and probably the thinking behind it, although Pastore did play two qualifiers at the start of this cycle. Similar to the USMNT's treatment of Bocanegra, but he's still included in the game even though he's out of the Nat'l team picture.

Idk about Pastore though. It isn't like they don't already have a wealth of attackers far better than Pastore. I know it takes away from the realism a bit, but hopefully they will address that soon. I expect another roster update by mid-May, after more international friendlies are played.
I know Tevez says he's done, but to me part of the fun of the WC games (and FIFA now that you can manage the national teams) is having the chance to manage the team the way you'd want to.

There's a small group of players who have "retired" who I'm sure most players would rather have on their respective national teams (Tevez, Vela with Mexico, I'm sure there's a couple others). They should give us that option. Ironically, Cherundolo has officially retired, and he's still available for the USMNT.

This is the same scripted junk as regular FIFA 14.

Can you control more than one team during the World Cup tournament mode in this game as well as control more than one team during the qualifying phase or are you restricted to being in control of one and only one team? There are not enough hours in the day to be able to play all the games, but having the option of letting two CPU teams battle each other out (especially in the playoff knock out phase) is always a nice option to have. I hate when we are restricted to controlling only one team, and the season immediately comes to and end with all the remaining games simmed to the end of the season if/when your team gets knocked out at any stage.

I think they went way overboard with the colors. Ever since FIFA 13, they've made the colors more and more cartoony and bright, and now it just looks so bad. Sunny days look like an in-progress nuclear blast.

after not having played FIFA '14 since buying World Cup, I fired up my Bristol City manager mode that's in Year 3. And it really made me appreciate the WC game a bit more. I know people complain about WC being a bit faster paced than '14, which hasn't particularly bothered me. but I feel like the players in WC play a lot more true to their actual ratings.

The primary example would be passing. As I'm playing with Bristol right now with a team full of players from 66-74 overall....I feel like my squad is full of Xavis. Perfectly played passes every time, air through balls with ease. I could play with a similarly rated team in WC and see passes that are more inaccurate and likely to be stolen by the AI defense. Air through balls notably have to be timed a lot better in WC instead of just whipping them around in FIFA '14.

Controller responsiveness, crosses/headers having tweaks, the ball mechanics, the goalkeeper improvements....World Cup just feels like a much better playing game to me. Hopefully they patch the various career mode bugs because some of them are pretty game breaking.

and I would have to agree with the comment about the colors above. There's one stadium in the game that looks like it has a dust storm going through it.

Kind of stopped playing because of the terrible player physics. They completely nerfed physical play so players easily fall over like bowling pins every time they are marked. Is there a slider for this?

You must have forgot where you were posting, most here(the majority at least) care more about game presentation, kits, stadiums, jocks and that they are "authentic" rather than actual gameplay.

I think so. There's a screen before you start where you pick your countries, but I don't know if you can pick more then one.

You can pick as many teams in a World Cup as you want. I recently played one in which I controlled every single team and played every single game. Surprisingly enough, Cameroon won.

Anyone hear any news about a patch to fix the selection squad glitch? Kind seems like something that should be fixed and fixable.

# 99 Cardot @ 05/28/14 12:20 PM
Probalby not a big deal to most, but the Fact sheet says "Commentary in nine languages"....but I only see 3.

Another mild bummer is that in the 2010 game, you could select 32 teams for the tournament, and then the game would put them into proper pots and do the draw. (And they did the draw really well...about 2 seconds between draws....not too drawn out, but slow enough for a little drama). In 2014 we can still select the 32 teams and set up our own groups, which is good I guess. But would have been nice to have the draw....it adds a bit of excitement.
