MLB 14 The Show News Post

Operation Sports recently got the chance to play MLB 14 The Show on PlayStation 4. There is a lot to love about the experience, including the absolutely beautiful visuals which accompany the game. Don't get too excited about huge gameplay changes, Sony has opted to carefully move up to next-gen with the same great experience we've all grown accustomed to.

Look for an even more in-depth text version of this report later today! Click here if the embedded video doesn't show up for you.

Looking good. I'm sure this will divide the forum with people who love it and people complaining that it's the same gameplay.

Caley was the one who got to play the game (and who filed the text report which this vid is based on) -- but yes, it seems that is a pretty good way to put it. There are minor differences but overall it'll be a similar experience, just much much prettier.

The "target" is 60FPS, but they're in final tweak mode, so we can't be sure until the game i sgold. Yes, 1080p native.

I get the feeling that there will be people complaining that it's the same as the PS3 version. You know it's coming.

I am pretty excited about this release. I know with WatchDogs releasing later in the month, my PS4 will get some extensive usage this summer.

Well yeah, the gameplay is very similar, but isn't that one of the reasons we love this series so much. Now, on top of that you get an entirely new set of stadiums, rebuilt from scratch, MUCH better visuals, uncompressed audio, realtime lighting day and night, 350+ more animations, 3 new hitting types including the Japanese-style slap hit.....

But then again, people are never satisfied

I grew up a Braves fan (but lived 2 hours from Pittsburgh most my life). After seeing PNC Park, I may have to control them just so I can look at that gorgeous stadium for half my games. Arguably the most scenic stadium in the MLB, seems like they captured that.

...and ditto to PSNation's comment.

So similar?

Double ditto.....

Does anyone really think that the game wouldn't largely PLAY the same?
But with the addition of 350+ ani's.......they aren't moving towards having it play better?

Also...you got to take it for what it is.....some are going to pop in here with the annual rite of spring and gripe...point out negatives and disappear for hibernation from June to March again...as they do EVERY SINGLE YEAR.
You go with it!!!

On point.....
I think those videos look great....the stadiums....well worth my extra bucks!
I can't believe I'M saying that...because I've never cared about graphics...but damn......these are reeling me in!

I can never get these embedded videos to play. I get about 10 seconds in and it stops.

I'll be happy with just an visually updated version of the PS3 game this year. But thats me I guess. The under the hood stuff can be for next year's game.

The game looks great, and I can't wait to get a chance to play it.

It does look similar to the PS3 in terms of gameplay, and while that's not a wholly bad thing, the gameplay has gotten pretty stale for me over the last couple of years and was hoping for more significant change. I'm sure we will get it next year, I'm not too worried. The addition of Online Franchise and upgraded visuals is more than enough to hold me over.

PS3 version with a facelift is fine for this year. Just don't break the game that's the important thing.

Can't wait for it now but REALLY a year from now is when I'll be really excited.

Still waiting on a night time shot of PNC. They nailed the daytime feel...But night games always missed the lighting on the surrounding buildings.

# 20 PsychoBulk @ 04/08/14 01:00 PM
Its Baseball after all, im not sure how different the gameplay is supposed to look, but im sure it will be tweaked as the years go by on the PS4.

The night games really do look like they will be something else
