Honestly, I probably would too simply by process of elimination (because I can't think of another MLB player who that looks like). Otherwise, I might think it's a generic player made to look like Pedro Cerrano or something.
Yup he said it looks like him so I'm not sure anyone can be more of an expert on that than the man himself. If he didn't like it he would have told me.
He just likes the beard. that is cool maybe it is the shadows. I see some resemblance but not like the Heyward counter part.

EDIT: I finally went into Google Images to try and place what looks different about him. I've narrowed it down to three things:
1) The full beard.
2) The bottom lip color.
3) The hat placement.
The third one is one of the most unique things about the guy (he wears it low and slightly crooked), so I can understand why that can't really be replicated on this game. If he is sporting a full beard this year, I'm sure it will look closer to him in the game.
That said, I'm warming up to his look now. The bottom lip color was the last one, and I don't think this game separates top and bottom lips at all. So it probably truly is "as close as they can get," which of course is very acceptable.
You have to take into consideration that his facial/head scan was probably taken in Spring Training 2013 so he probably looked like this last year the day the scan was taken.
I honestly don't know what Brandon Phillips looks like when he's not smiling lol. But I gotta say these screens probably do a good appropriation of it.
Here's the best pictures I could find of him making a neutral facial expression
He looks like Big KRIT in that picture lol
I think that if you add a full beard to those 2 pics, he would look pretty much exactly like he does in the 2 screenshots.

Your smiling comment makes me wonder if we will see some more facial expressions on the ps4. This game would be on another level if they can accurately portray human emotion because we all know that baseball has it's ups and downs.
Looks great! Russell Please send the Show Team my congrats on another excellent year of the best video sports game of all time! I can't wait for May to get here!!!
BP looks great and all of that, but the thing that really caught me in the first screenshot was the smokestacks in the background. There's a depth that wasn't there in past versions. I have strong suspicion we'll be wowed by all of the new stadiums.
The second shot definitely gives off an MLB 2K7 vibe when it comes to the lighting. It's nice.
Doesn't really look like Brandon Phillips, though. I mean it does, but put him in a different jersey and I would be second-guessing who that is. Maybe it's just that the beard is very full, and I'm used to him just having chin stubble.
I also like the sparse crowd look. I wonder if they'll start spreading out small crowds a different way though (like, more in the lower deck and less in the upper deck).
Jeez, comparing a game in 2014 to a game in 2007. 2K7 was the high standard for future sports graphics.. Sadly it took a major plummet from there, in terms of graphics.

God I want a Petco Park screenshot so bad!
I'll take a screenshot of Petco, but hope for a video. Btw Petco is a beautiful park. one of my favorites besides PNC and of course my home ballpark Progressive Field
MADDEN?? ROFl, what are you smoking? The show has always been the best looking sports game overall by a wide margin, the stadiums, lighting, etc... More to graphics then faces who you only see in up close replays.
The two night shots that we've seen so far were extremely impressive. I made mention of the MLB 2K7 lighting system earlier, and it got me thinking that perhaps this game can run a 24 hour clock like that one. I'm looking at that Brandon Phillips shot where the sun is pretty low, and it makes me wonder if we're looking at 5:00 or 6:00 in the summer at that time, if that makes sense.
I'm really curious and fascinated to see where they go with the daytime/nighttime progression system and the lighting. I'm holding off from the PS4 as long as possible, but little things like this could sway me pretty immediately. I know they're holding off showing things like this, but damn I need a teaser or confirmation one way or the other!

You didn't say that the first time (and as we know, screenshots and in-game activity can definitely be two different things), but it doesn't much matter.

well would you expect an SCEA employee and community manager to say anything else on here
There's 30 plus 1 million polygon count stadiums to render, with stadiums that seat on average 35k fans, no less than 15 players on the field at one time, day and night lighting with lighting transitions for time of day, etc........... do the math.
I forget how one developer i know put it..he's from Starbreeze Studios in Sweden but he told me one time in a forum they use to run that no matter how amazing their games would look ..there are always people nitpicking at things and he went on to say that even if their game was photo realistic there would still be someone pointing out things they dislike or are not impressed with.
In other words, its simply impossible to please ever person here no matter how great your game looks. But hey brother....you guys deserve much credit for not bringing out a half-baked game that is not fully featured...you brought us everything we loved from last gen but on top of that hit a grand slam with these visuals!!
Man I keep getting wowed by the new crowds. It's insane how real it looks! Never thought I would get excited about crowds haha.
Now for the sake of the new hair technology, please Tim Lincecum, grow your hair back. Maybe he was so turned off by his molded mullet in previous The Show installments that he cut it

Great shots.
Yeah i honestly believe once we see the crowds in motion we are gonna be blown away. They look so wonderful now but i just have this gut feeling when we see these new varied crowds in motion its going to blow our minds...it has been one of the downfalls of past generations...the crowds always ruined the atmosphere...well some of it at least but now they look so much better even as hard as it is to see in these screenshots but in motion? Boy we are in for a treat! Rest assured!
In my opinion it's the player models/uniforms/textures that are bringing the WOW factor down.
You can absolutely tell the stadiums have been rebuilt and they look fantastic along with the crowd. The lighting is also beautiful especially at night.
They really need to work on the players/ unis etc for next year.
The guy/girl (please no) standing in the entranceway.
If they are gone 1 or 2 pitches later looking at instant replay...
Don't fans move up and down the aisles already? Or am I just thinking of the vendors?
I wonder if they're finally programmed it so that the standing room only/people walking around the stadium actually are tied in with the people in the seats. For instance, if you do batting practice at Kauffman Stadium, you'll see all of the empty blue seats, but there will still be the SRO fans all in front of the stadium fountains.
