2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil News Post

So, it was revealed last week that EA’s FIFA World Cup 2014 will be hitting the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on April 17. Unfortunately, the Next-Gen crowd will miss out.

Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t even own a next-gen console yet (#StudentProblems), and I’m bummed for you guys. But before you completely dismiss FIFA World Cup, despite it being current-gen, read this column and hear me out.

EA makes a World Cup game every 4 years, so they had plenty of time to plan for it. That excuse is hogwash. And not having the money to do it is laughable, they make money hand over fist just from Ultimate Team alone.

Like most, disappointed about no next-gen, but still going to pick it up for the PS3.

Producing games costs money (and a lot of it) and time (and a lot of it). While it might seem like a lot of people already have an XB1 or a PS4, the truth is that the vast majority of people in the world do not have this system yet. As a result, facing a money and time constraint (as this is an additional game that EA Sports normally doesn't produce in a fiscal year), they weren't able to make a game for both next gen and current gen. Thus, they went with the masses and released this for the XB360 and PS3, making it available to the greatest number of people available.

There is the reason, so let's stop all of the whining about this not being released for next gen, because it makes perfect sense for EA Sports to do this (it's been a while since I've said that...) and very little sense to go only with the XB1/PS4 version. Then, we'd hear about 4 times the complaints about it not being on current-gen...
This game is only made once every four years...but they didn't have enough time to make it next-gen..?

Weird business? there is over 200 million ps3 & 360s out there, only around 6 million xbox ones and ps4, who cares....

Its not worth them to pay the money to make it, and if they had a finished product or something worthy of releasing im sure they would.

the first year of a console release is always the worst, anyways.

No next gen. No buy.

Another thing that could be added is that most of the stuff that are on the World Cup games don't translate in future iterations of FIFA like licensed kits, stadiums and head coaches which is frustrating because EA doesn't take advantage of them.

Completely inexcusable that this game is not available on next-gen.

I also find it hard to understand, as Ermoli said, why this stuff can't be carried over to the iteration that is released every year. Why not just include a World Cup mode?

licensees? Venues? Etc. They could have been working on this game since before the consoles were announced or released?

it cost money to make a game, for licensing, etc.... I dont under why its so hard to understand no next gen yet and why its such a big deal? countless of other games have been delayed etc.

the next gen is just getting started, not like they stood much too lose lol they have 200 million current gen users to please and make their money, they know you will all buy the 2018 world cup game lol

But if it's licensed, it is already licensed. They have the ability to use it.

In regards to the development of the game, the engine/audio/art is already there. They could have made it for next gen and scaled it down.

Moving forward next gen is where their bread will be buttered, so not getting the game to PS4/XOne is puzzling.

You could say the same about Madden, Live and FIFA but they still came out next gen.

It is licensed specifically for the World Cup game. It is not licensed in any way, shape, or form for the yearly FIFA game.

That is what I mean. It was being used as that was the excuse as to why the World Cup iteration didn't make it to next gen.

The carrying over to future releases was a separate topic.

Must say i'm really looking forward to WC 2014, i loved playing through the tournament multiple times back in 2010 even playing every game of the tournament in one save. Not sure whether I will purchase the game at release as I normally like to wait for the domestic season to finish first as I struggle to get into WC mode until the media hype machine comes into full force but I will definitely be getting it by the end of May.

I thought the gameplay in 2010 was great and i'm expecting it to be again. Add in the presentation which is normally great in the WC games and I think we'll be in for a real treat. Even the commentary team of Clive and Andy which I don't particularly enjoy on tv works really well in the WC games.

Also glad we have a full game rather than the dlc release for Euro 2012 which I thought was really poor.

i think the reason it's not on next gen is because of the game's value is a very small window. Once the world cup ends, you'll probably see this game for cheap on eBay.

It'd be great if they released a pc version, but if it would have been anything like the euro 2012 addon, it would not have been worth it, that version was horrible.

How many teams won't have the correct kit, that's my question.

Patience has paid off for me so far. I've been able to resist the urge to get a NG console for the time being. As WC 2014 proves, there is still a lot of life left in the ol' PS3 and 360.

Pretty sure all teams will have their kits, at least that was the case with the last World Cup game. If I were EA I would release this game at 40 or 50 bucks to make up for the game not being available for next gen.
