2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil News Post

Way back in October, EA confirmed they were developing 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil. Today they released an image with only the PS3 and 360 logos it.

From the looks of it, we aren't going to see a next-gen version of the game. We also don't know if it will be a FIFA 14 add-on or a stand alone title.

If we hear anything, we'll update this story.

UPDATE: It will be exclusive to 360 and PS3 and will arrive on April 15th as a stand-alone game.

As for PS4 and Xbox One users, the EA Sports FIFA team had this to say.

The teaser only showed Xbox 360 and PS3 so I guess it'll only be for current-gen, really disappointing.

I'm not a huge soccer fan, so I normally grab the World Cup games, because every four years is about when I'm ready to put time into a new soccer game.

This will be the first one since 2002 that I don't get, because of the lack of next-gen version. Glad I grabbed FIFA 14 instead.

Sounds great.

Really disappointing to see it is not next gen. With the newer next gen crowds the immersion could have been epic.

Read carefully and read between the lines. The way they've worded this sounds like offline mode only allows one to play qualifying rounds up to the first group stage, and that playing the WC final stages and the WC itself is only possible via online play:

I wonder how long they will support it? I tried to play FIFA World Cup 2010: South Africa on the 360 and the disc won't play. After googling why it wouldn't work, it appears it's a known problem and they don't care to fix it. Being too casual of a fan to get the annual FIFA title, getting a World Cup edition would be perfect. But after wasting my money on the last game, I think I'll pass.

Yeah, it's a shame that it isn't for next-gen and I don't understand why, didn't FIFA 14 sell well on those consoles? I'm sure that with an improved living worlds the atmosphere would be crazy, even better than how great it was on the 2010 game.

The only positive I can gain from this announcement is that Men in Blazers, Roger Bennett and Michael Davies, are involved.

Edit:
Why isn't our World Cup game on X1/PS4? We are making the best game we can for our largest audience, which is still on 360 & PS3. 1/2

For fans on X1/PS4, #FIFA14 will have a range of World Cup content and tournaments within FUT. More news closer to the tournament. 2/2

Moving people towards FUT? Sounds like a cash-grab.

Beyond disappointed this isn't on next gen...Why did I buy a ps4 again? The game lineup sucks and there have been quite a few issues. Kudos to those of you who wait to buy one. If it wasn't for my lucky day at the casino i'd still be ps3 exclusive.

Like others, extremely disappointing its not on next gen. The last world cup game was awesome and my favorite FIFA game thus far. Nothing for me to see here

I was all set to buy a PS4 this month just for this game. Actually saw one available last week and almost snagged it then. Well, that's 400 bucks I saved. Beyond disappointing.

Agreed. This and Dark Souls 2 not coming to next gen is a serious kick in the junk. At least Dark Souls is coming to pc, even if it is at a later date. The thing that scares me a bit more is that they are not releasing on the pc either. It has long been feared that EA was going to kill their final pc sports game and as someone that like to mod the pc game like crazy that would be a major let down.

Highly depressing that we won't get a World Cup game on next gen. World Cup 2006 was released on the 360 despite the fact the console had only been out a few months and I played that game like crazy and was the game that turned around the series after the disasters that were released.

Hell they could have done a DLC pack on FIFA 14 like they did for Euro 2012 and charged me 20 bucks and I would have been happy.

# 15 Stormyhog @ 02/06/14 11:54 AM
Man terrible news about not being on next gen. I was all set to buy it when it arrived but now will pass on it. They say it's because current gen has the largest audience well then why didn't they do the same with Fifa 14. I never saw this coming. I want to go forward not backwards especially now that we have next gen soccer already.

Un-friggin-believable.

The next gen games already have the world cup in them. My pro was selected to play in it in the first year on ps4. Then I was selected and won the tournament the next time it was held. Which was three or four years for those wondering. They worked international friendlies into the whole schedule and as a manager you can apply to coach the national team. Believe me the world cup is already on next gen.

# 19 onac22 @ 02/06/14 12:03 PM
Some arenas may not be there but the tournament is.

# 20 jb1 @ 02/06/14 12:11 PM
Seems a strange decision not to release on next gen thats for sure and feel for those who will now miss out.

On the positive side, World Cup 2010 remains one of my favourite ever games and I still play it occasionally even now. I didn't like Euro 2012 at all so I am glad we will get a fully (or nearly fully) licensed standalone title this time around. Does seem odd though that Ea couldn't even produce a dlc for next gen.
