MLB 2K13 News Post

In a move that was neither unexpected nor surprising, 2K Sports today confirmed in a statement to Polygon it is not renewing the MLB license and thus, the MLB 2K series was (for the first time) confirmed as dead.

"We have decided not to renew our MLB 2K series for 2014," 2K Sports said in the statement.

If you recall, last year everyone presumed the franchise was dead but 2K stayed quiet about it's future until MLB 2K13 was surprisingly announced just before release. That will not be the case this year, as 2K Sports' statement leaves no wiggle room for a return of the franchise this year.

There is some hope that another company will take up the baseball banner on Microsoft consoles, but who that will end up being does remain a mystery. EA thus far, denies any interest in pursuing the baseball license even though they would seem to be the most suitable candidate to give baseball a try.

With no MLB 2K, both the XBox 360 and XBox One will be without an MLB simulation experience in 2014.

Really enjoy 2k12. I find that as a whole, gamers are becoming more and more needy and NOTHING will ever be good enough. So I'm trying to turn a corner and find the good.

No one complained in RBI Baseball that the throws didn't reach first. Now, every pixel seems to end up on Youtube getting ripped.

I enjoyed it, will continue to and that is all I care.
Yeah i agree with you.

VC is hiring software folks for a baseball game if anyone is interested
Please tell me where you are getting your information, which is of a speculative nature, so that I can have a glimmer of hope for 2015 and beyond. It would be sad if they only use the wonderful new Eco-Motion engine on the NBA and WWE licenses.

Oh, and in the original statement they specifically only mention the 2014 season leaving the door slightly open...

Still, this could simply be for a Japanese ball game too.

It was a joke.

Although your question "What would be next-gen about baseball cards?" made me laugh for about a solid minute (genuinely...definitely not laughing at you, just conceptually it's such a funny question to ask - because the answer is clearly "nothing"). That is awesome.

I don't think so...the only thing that's changed as far as I know is that they no longer come with a stick of gum that's like a hardened plank of wood.

Hated to hear it ended. I'm a 360 guy so as far as baseball is concerned I'm out of luck.

Check out the latest roster. I still play 2k The Show and PYS. Don't give up on the 360 yet while not pretty 2k13 plays a good game of baseball.

I wish that 2K still made baseball games, so that there would be more options to choose from when you want a baseball game this year.

True, same with hockey and football for the moment as well. It's not all bad though, we can still play the old games. Right now I'm playing MLB2K10 and 11. NHL2K10 is right around the corner for when hockey starts and I snagged a copy of NHL2K8 as well to add to the rotation.

I've got The Show but I get bored of it fairly quickly and end up playing only playing 2K instead.

Slightly different with hockey, as I haven't purchased EAs offering last year and I won't this year either. Perfectly happy with 2K8 and 10. Both great games
