NBA Live 14 News Post

SportsGamerBlog.com recently sat down with Sean O'Brien, executive producer of NBA Live 14, for an interview.

In the interview O'Brien talks about his background with EA Sports, the pressure of rebuilding the franchise to start. Discussion then goes into potential for a PC version, ESPN integration, title updates, and what it means for the game to be more data driven versus code based.

It's a quick interview well worth a listen!

5-on-5 gameplay (no 1-on-1, 2-on-2 or streetball)
Live 14 is using data from Synergy Sports Technologies. That data is used to drive the AI.
Franchise mode is included
Very regular updates (replay segments of certain games - For example, a player goes off in a game, can you replicate that)
Breen and Van Gundy for play-by-play
Jalen Rose doing content on a weekly basis to be entered into the game. (Talking about specific players doing well or badly, calling out people playing the game talking about achievements that they have completed in the game.)
Game was put together with the Ignite engine in approximately 10 months
No smartglass or Vita integration

They finally spilled the beans on their "ESPN" secret.

Excellent podcast.

-Sean O'Brien confirms that there will be a full feature demo released for Live 14.

-Playcalling is 3-tiered (sounds similar to Live 10 with basic plays and then player specific plays).

-ESPN integration includes Jalen Rose doing the menu walk-thrus and highlights of other your game and other games. EA Sports contracted Jalen to come in every week and record content for them. This will include him talking about people at the top of leaderboards and things relative to the season.

-Mike Breen and Jeff Van Gundy are the in-game commentators.

Isn't "crew mode" five on five gameplay too?

Well, i must say you're right
I misunderstood the "No modes other than 5 on 5 play" part..
So i still hope that crew will be present!

Never heard a mention of anything related to a Crew mode.

I'm not seeing any issues with this on my connection. I was able to play the file and download it via two different connections.

It seems to be working fine now. I'm about 30 minutes into the stream and no issues yet. Still can't download for some reason, but thats probably a browser issue.

+ESPN integration includes the "mic'd up" coaches on the sidelines. We will hear actual clips from real coaches just like we hear on the sidelines during timeouts and intermissions.

It's basically a no-brainer at this point. If you are a hardcore NBA fan, you have to get Live 14. The constant real-world updates, the player and team DNA, Live Season, etc., all make the game very true to life.

I think we already know that 2k will have the edge in graphics, and Sean is almost conceeding that in this interview to some extent. But if Live has the better gameplay, which I think has a reasonable chance of happening, it will be my hoops game of choice. I have a feeling the presentation will already eclipse 2k's. Things are getting interesting.

What are you talking about? I said if Live has better gameplay, which I think is a possibility.

Does that mean no remote play on the Vita? I was under the impression that all games were required to have that feature unless the game also required use of the Playstation Camera.
