2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil News Post

Probably not a shock to anyone, but EA Sports has confirmed they are developing a 2014 FIFA World Cup game. No word on whether it will be a stand-alone title or expansion to FIFA 14 or specific consoles.

Both Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Wilson and Chief Financial Officer, Blake Jorgensen talked about it during the EA management Q2 2014 results earnings call.

In the last 2 weeks, you've also seen several announcements about our product slate for the remainder of this year and into FY '15. We are refining our focus on our biggest brands and great new IP in development, including The Sims 4, EA SPORTS UFC, FIFA World Cup and Dragon Age: Inquisition.

We have Sims next year, we would most likely, possibly have Dragon Age next year. And so a World Cup next year as well...

I still think we're going to see this as DLC within FIFA 14.

The popularity of the current game means a large installed base. If you can put the DLC at $30 or $40, you probably make more than standalone at $60.

Plus with DLC, you get it on all the platforms more easily.

I always get the WC game. I love playing the whole qualification process as both a manager and player. The CONCACAF process is so dramatic because it's small stages with no room for error, incredibly fun gaming experience.

I just hope they don't opt out on the earlier rounds like they did with SA2010, starting in Round 3 for CONCACAF. The format changed, so hopefully at least from Round 2 we can start play from.

I hope they don't opt out of qualifying entirely like they did with the rather awful Euro 2012 DLC. Playing through qualifying in all its stages in all the various regions is my favorite video game experience bar none. If there's half-baked qualifying like with the last World Cup game I wouldn't like it but I'd still buy it. No qualifying at all means no purchase.

I'm hoping for Captain Your Country again. Loved playing that with a few of my friends over and some beer.

I personally want a standalone game (not DLC). FIFA 12's UEFA EURO 2012 addon was awful, and while it may have included most (if not all) UEFA nations, it came at the expense of unlicensed kits and rosters.

2010 FIFA World Cup continues to be one of my top 3 soccer games of this generation because of the sheer amount of detail it packs in. Every player on every national team had his name recorded and every nation was sufficiently represented (even small countries with unlicensed kits).

If 2014 FIFA World Cup is indeed DLC, it must have all the features, commentary, licenses, modes and players that 2010 had (and hopefully more). Otherwise it would pretty much ruin a great run of World Cup games.

If it's not a standalone game it better be the best DLC we have ever seen.

World Cup games are so much fun, but I will hold back on my excitement due to the Euro 2012 DLC.

I'd be shocked if this isn't a stand alone game. We're talking about a ton of teams, and the FIFA World Cup brand is so huge that I can guarantee that EA believes it's worth its own game.

I really hope it's stand alone.

The WC game was my favorite sports game this gen. Just a ton of fun.

World Cup games appeal to the more casual audience so you can definitely expect it on all consoles and as a disc game. WC 2010 was released on everything, including PSP and PS2, so it wouldn't make sense not to release it on everything. Also, considering EA has nothing scheduled between the launch of UFC and Madden (unless there is a golf game as they haven't actually said no golf game is coming), they need to make money from a 50-60 dollar title.

So FIFA 14 doesn't have the world cup in career mode? As in, there aren't qualifying matches?

I was wondering to myself about this game the other day. Glad to hear that it's being released. I skipped Fifa in favor of PES 14, but I'll probably pick this up.

I hope it's a stand alone game. Euro 12 was a big disappointment. WC 2010 is still my favorite game on current-gen. Can't wait to start qualification with Jamaica, Haiti, Luxembourg. Oh can't wait. The atmosphere was good in wc 10

This is great news, whether the game is DLC or stand-alone.

2010 FIFA World Cup game and the event itself was the one that got me into FIFA and soccer. Playing it again I think it was the one that really started the turn around of FIFA. I enjoyed it a lot more than FIFA 13 actually. Only issue with the game was the usual FIFA marking/positional stuff and some tweaks to acceleration/sprint speed sliders were needed. I don't plan to switch to next gen until this game comes out, so I really hope it's a standalone game.

I can't see this not being a standalone game. A World Cup game appeals to a whole lot more people than UEFA Euro. Anyone interested in Euro would be someone who already owns the standalone Fifa game. You can't expect the casuals to go out and buy Fifa 14 AND then pay for the DLC on top of that to play a World Cup game.

The way it
Was announced it will definitely be a stand alone game.

And it'll be next gen only, shamely.

NBA Live 14 and UFC aren't coming from this generation, who doubts about 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil?

Given that the FIFA series is by far EA's biggest seller, I can almost guarantee that this game comes out on 360 and PS3 as well.

UFC is a brand new series and Live had been discontinued for a few years on current gen. This means they would have had to build these games from the ground up on 360 and PS3 whereas the World Cup game uses the same engine as FIFA.

I agree should be on previous gen as well

I just want all the teams. World Cup games are always one of my favorite games to play.
