NBA Live 14 News Post

EA Sports has posted a new blog talking about how you control the handle in NBA Live 14. The blog features information about the new dribbling system in the game, with information about the three different levels of dribble moves that you as a player can utilize in order to get defenders out of position.

Level one moves are basic ballhandler moves like crossovers, hesitations, behind the back, etc. Level two moves are a bit more complex, adding motion and momentum to the moves above to chain together moves. Level three moves are the signature moves which you can use to drive to the basket.

No information was given on how these moves will vary amongst players, especially those who simply can't do level three type of moves -- also will be interesting to see how the defense will defend. All in due time I suppose!

Guy's everyone can agree dribbling looks good, but the player isn't in motion. We saw from the trailer that movement animations still look very bad. Did you see Derrick Rose tippy toe for that dunk, it looked very, very bad.

Soooo. Next blog is going to be about the dribbling too? Yay.

They could have included how to do the moves in this blog and dedicated the next to, say, other gameplay improvements?

Video's look good though. Excited to see how this feels in my hands.

For some reason none of the videos on the blog are loading, can someone post the links to the videos?

Setting up your man will be more fun than ever, no doubt. I wonder how the defensive reactions will look?

Vids look pretty good, but the frame rate seems slightly off...

And for what its worth, those complaining about players not 'moving', should understand the moves showcased here were setup moves...they're supposed to be stationary.

They need to get James Harden in a Mo-Cap suit asap, I don't think there's anyone in the league that uses these standing isolation moves as much as him.

I like the way it looks though. Seems like it could be a lot of fun, and the fact that you can break out of any animation at any time gives you so many options, and with 50+ packages it's going to be fun learning the different players and speeds.

Also I like the route EA is going with these layers skills, like how they're doing the precision running in Madden. It'll differentiate the people with the skills from the ******s, it's simple enough to pick up, but deep enough to learn. They need to add these types of layered skills to shooting, post moves, rebounding, passing, off ball movement; everywhere.

The layered tiers should become universal through out the game, it would make the game extremely deep for the hardcore fans, yet simple for the ******. I remember the days when you had to ask people "Yo, How'd you do that?" I miss that in gaming, skills are slowly fading away for pretty looks. I hope Live is bringing back the true skill competitive sports gaming needs.

Looks good, and a great foundation to build off.

Looks pretty good. I still don't like the idea of breaking out of any animation you want because that's not real basketball, but what they have there looks good.

So I'm guessing they'll rate all of the players between level 1 to 3.

Looks good, but I'm just waiting to see it in-game with defenders present. Honestly, I put Live 07 in my 360 last week and when I was controlling the player in the gym alone and standing still, the dribbling wasn't all that bad. The problem was when the game started and the player had to move beyond himself and around others. I would also like to see them running.

Say what you want about 2K dribbling (which needs improvement just like a lot of other things), but whether standing still and dribbling or running, I've been able for sometime now to pull off most of what I wanted, and smoothly at the same time.

This is what I like to see though, explanation with visuals. Good job EA, now let's just see it all together in 5 on 5 for a couple minutes.

I think the fact that the ball is separate from the hands makes a difference too. Like you can't just break out immediately but you have to have the ball touching your hand. I mean you don't have to watch some long animation sequence play out and then dribble. It's free flowing like real life.

Also it seems like there's something here no one is talking about, I'm not sure exactly but it looks like if you hold a certain move you can continuously dribble the ball back and forth. For instance John Wall in that first clip where he's going behind the back. It's like you can lull the defender to sleep, because it's the same behind the back move he did to begin with just continuous. That'll be deadly if any basic dribbling move is capable of that.

I could be wrong but very nice addition if it in fact works that way. Because I did see Kyrie Irving string together a bunch of through the leg dribbles similarly in that one E3 video with Mike Conley.

I can't hate on this for real. Dribbling is looking nice.

We already knew that Bounce-Tek dribblings do look great in this game, but this is not new, we are looking forward to see 5vs5 basketball, that's the missing point here...

Cheers! ;-)

Yeah, dribbling in Live has always been the best, it's one the reasons it's my favorite hoop franchise. And I'm glad EA has focused on it so much.

Then we get more dribbling blogs after this one? What else though? There's only so much we can talk about dribbling.

If nothing else we can expect to see very good ball handling out of Live and I also expect top notch presentation considering I believe they had an advantage in that with current-gen as well. I may not pick up Live as soon as it comes out, but I will most definitely get it when it's down around the $30 or $40 range.
