Has anyone played Fifa 06 on ps2 xbox or gamecube?

Thats what i feel fifa 14 is like on ps3 360

basically the current gen swan song...

Its VERY evident that fifa caters to ONLINE play. its very much a "I want to do this NOW!" type of control.

I have to say that FIFA 14 is great

Having played 4 games, I must say I like what I'm seeing, although it's tough to make sound assessments with only 3 mins/half.

Difficulty: World Class
Sliders: Default
Game Speed: First 2 Normal / Second 2 Slow
Controller Settings: First 2 Default / Second 2 Full-Manual

THE GOOD
-Players definitely have more weight which makes handling feel more organic. In '13 I would often lose possession because I would anticipate my player moving a certain way because of momentum that was non-existent. It's not perfect here but it has a greater influence than it previously has.

-Dribbling and touches are directly influenced by said weight. One of my favorite moves is to sprint one direction and quickly cut back the opposite. Previously, with the AI's Ninja Dribble as soon as I cut back they were there to take possession but now the momentum makes a sharp change in the opposite direction harder to control so the ball gets knocked a little further away creating a little space, which is exactly what I'm looking for.

-I've noticed a difference in shooting, albeit not a very large one (again longer halves and more play time is needed). My first goal came with David Silva. I did my usual Body Feint into the box from the wing, moved to the near post, and fired to the far post. Where as in '13 the shot would by default fly low and into the corner, because of ball spin, body position, and the new shooting mechanics, my ball spun toward the near post which caused it to drop right in front of the keeper's hand and bounce into the far corner.

-At first glance it seems as though play varies between teams and players. My first 2 games I used Man City against Dortmund and Spurs and my style of play suited theirs as I was able to reasonably move the ball around the field and create shooting opportunities. My second 2 games were with Dortmund against PSG. In the first game PSG had me on my heels the whole game, playing a very fast offense and countering strongly, giving them the win 2 - 0. The 2nd game I adjusted to their style of play and drew 0 - 0 but I wasn't able to create any chances and they dominated possession (the first time that's happened to me in a looooooooooong time playing '13).

-Generally the AI did a much better job maintaining possession. With the exception of my 2 games against PSG I won the possession battle but my games with Man City saw me win it 59% - 41% which was a rarity for me in '13.

THE NOT-SO-GOOD
-Ninja Dribble still exists. While it's generally easier to move around defenders, if you put about 2 feet of distance between you and a defender you can see that as soon as you move in one direction, the defender's response is immediate and totally mirrors yours.

-The AI still plays with the Counter-Attacking mentality that it's famous for. As soon as they get possession, too often they rifle the ball up the field. That coupled with the fact that they're passing accuracy is near infallible by default means they almost always find an open man. This isn't too bad though as it can be rectified with sliders.

It's certainly worth mentioning that my first two games were easier than my 2nd two, which means that playing full-manual will be a greater challenge than it was in '13. I'll amend my observations as I get more games under my belt on the latter.

Agreed. I had no plans to get it till PS4, but thinking otherwise now. Been a preferred PES player for last few years, but this demo is great. Still need more fouls and I hope the next gen engine will increase those along with better build up by the CPU. The slower game speed and player weight is much improved over past versions along with a more organic feel. GTA5 may get my mind off it for a bit, but I got a feeling I may break down.

Played several more games trying out different things slider wise, the potential here is massive, especially full manual. My very first goal with the game was a thing of beauty. Building up through the center of the pitch I did a quick 1-2 that just barely freed up Marco Reus down the left wing where he did a short knock-on before firing off a cross that passed just in front of the right back guarding me on it's way to the box where a diving Robert Lewandowski headed it home for a brilliant goal! Not bad for #1
I actually uploaded it to EA but I've yet to find it LOL.

Played a FUT game and had a lot of fun. Enjoyed the challenge thing before starting a match.

Will play a bit more tomorrow night. So far I've liked what I've seen in the few minutes I've been able to play.

I played about 3 games earlier today. I could see the new animations and I could tell the slight difference in gameplay from 13 to the 14. One thing different is the "normal" speed is not as frenetic as it was on '13. Also when I played Barca they actually played a passing game instead of directly heading to the goal as on '13. I'm usually a PES player first and then FIFA comes after I get tired of PES, but I may just get FIFA this year.

Well, I managed to get the FIFA 14 demo on XBox 360.

It definitely feels a lot heavier and slower than last year's edition, which is good but it still has that arcady feel to it. Ball physics are good and the presentation is top notch as usual. The defensive AI is also a lot better at marking players, covering runs and closing down the ball. You really have to plan your strategy and play a passing and build up style of football in order to create good goal scoring chances.

Unfortunately, the fun is over once the opposing team gains possession of the ball. They will always play the same one dimensional attacking style of football and I'm afraid no amount of editing and slider adjusting is going to ever change the fact that every team and every match feels the same. I hate that as much as I did back in FIFA 12/13.

All in all this was total a let down. I was really looking forward to playing in Sky Bet League 2 . I'm definitely going to miss the good old career mode this year.

Time to go back to the PES 2014 demo. Looks like the old king is back.

I really like the improvements but the speed is still a bit too fast. I will probably just wait for the Xbox One version to release or better yet the next gen World Cup version.

My Fifa demo won't load up properly anymore on my PS3, I just get a black screen after the Messi screen. I guess I have to re-download it, anyone else experiencing this?

I've seen conflicting things in this thread regarding style of play. Unfortunately, I didn't get more than 20 minutes with the demo last night, and most of the time spent was adjusting to the change in pacing/dribbling.

Can anyone else speak to whether we're seeing anything different in regards to attacking styles? Maybe between Juniors/Red Bulls and a team like Man City or Barca?

Early impressions from a guy who played Fifa 13 to death last year:

1) Pace will not longer be as dominant as it was in past FIFAs. I am very excited about this. I believe this will also help slower players become more effective in this game. Gone are the days where you needed to fast CBs to keep up with a team bombing through balls all day.

2) Players feel much heavier. Agility is a stat that will be very important because maneuvering guys with low agility is a pain. Just as it should be.

3) Shooting physics feel improved.

4) AI seems to be improved although I need to play a lot more to get a better feel on the improvements.

5) Normal speed feels much slower and less hectic. I imagine slow speed will be a great setting to play on.

So far I am really, really liking what I am seeing.

overall, i like the game. but i see some problems.

looks like it's impossible to play through the middle of the field, there's no space at all, and you're forced to play on the wings only. i always thought the field was smaller than it sould be, but this year, it's even more noticeable.

also, the problem with the strikers who runs towards the defenders instead of running into open spaces, is stil in the game. i've had a lot of situations when i was waiting for my winger to get on the open space, and he ran to the box, towards the defenders. it makes no sense at all.

also, the left and right backs always make bad choices, they still don't know how to cover, and if you switch to one of them, then, you centre back goes out of position, he comes to "help" you, but now there's a hole on your defense, and guess what, you can't fix the problem, cause is too late.

I played Tue demo only 2 games. Dortmund vs ny red bulls both match. I was Dortmund. The first match I lost 1-0. The second one was a draw0-0. Though I played on world class level. Also I didnt change any sliders n played on manual passing. It was more harder in the final third specially was not able to make one shot on goal. Its definitely better than 13 but still I think acceleration has not yet been corrected coz red bulls players were able to easily catch me

It's nary impossible to dribble for any extended time, you're dispossessed quickly, just as you should be. The game has now become about passing, build up, and most importantly intelligent decision making. It's actually so much different I can see a certain segment becoming quite frustrated with the slower pace. And by slower pace I don't mean the speed of the players, I'm talking about the actual flow of the game, it's much much more deliberate. It's more about the one on one battles, it's no longer possible to just sprint dribble past defenders in good position. You actually have to stop, shield the ball, look for the pass, and most importantly exploit space.
At first the CPU was dominating me, 60-70% possession, as I've adjusted I've gotten a little better still however I lose the possession battle every match. Shots are nearly non-existent due to the shortness of the halves.
Here are some other random thoughts:

-The crab walk is GONE

-There's a distinct difference between players, much more so than in 13

-As far as movement goes there some new additions(I think) that will become necessary.
RT + RS is knock on
LB is stop and turn
RT(no direction) stops the ball
LT + RT faces up
LT + LS allows you to receive the ball and turn
RT is still sprint
skill moves are performed using the right stick only
holding LT with B is a flair shot
RB + X is a bouncing lob pass
LT is used to protect the ball

Some of these may not be new, but their definitely going to be used a lot more LOL.
Orion any idea which button to press on PC for protecting the ball while standing. While dribbling the opponent players were able to catch upto me and tried to take the ball away from me. If i stay for a long time on course with them they r sure to take the ball away. Please reply so that i can try in further games on world class level and tne go up a notch higeher to legendary. And thanks for all the slider settings in fifa 13 which made my experience to play in legendary very beautiful

just hold LT. LT is for protecting only, that's why you don't need to hold LT to dribble anymore.

Thanks. I will try that. Though I dont know which one is LT button will still figure out by having a look at controls.

that is still my biggest problem as well. The CPU attack is always very direct and there still isn't much going on in midfield IMO.

Still feels like FIFA 13 and that isn't good enough for me. Even after I tweaked the sliders it still wasn't up to my standard. Shooting still feels nice as always but defending is still the same in a sense it still doesn't feel like you defend as a team. It isn't as bad as last years but still not good enough. I think this might be a pass for me again as it was for the last two installments.

# 59 Gnemi @ 09/11/13 12:50 PM
With an admittedly a small sample size of five demo games, I think I might be in the minority wherein I found mostly awful things happening, visually and in terms of gameplay.

The Good
Crabwalk is gone. The textures are smoother and more lifelike. The throughball animation looks pretty cool as do some of the other kicking animations.

Wow, you canNOT use simple dribble mechanics to sprint around guys anymore, which is VERY realistic. However, they've fixed that and broken something else that I'll get to in The Ugly.

The UI is a phenomenal improvement. 'Nuff said.

Tackling is of much more value, in particular shoulder tackles. Ever since the dawn of Tactical Defending, tackling had basically become the riskiest investment you could make as a defender and hardly worth it on the whole. Defending was indeed more realistic than the Legacy years of rugby defending, but tackling was functionally near useless. I can see that I'm going to like making the occasional tackle this year without the punitive effect of instant yellow (or red) card + instant counterattack for the AI.

I do get the impression, speaking of tackling, that there will be far more fouls called this year. Sample size too small though...

The Bad
The new changes to momentum and agility combined with the removal of the crabwalk have come at the expense of some very odd animations. Both teams, on the whole, looked almost...geriatric...like dudes suffering low back pain or something, as if they're in mid-spasm every time they begin their runs. This is something I observed in virtually every player on the pitch by the way. It's a wholesale change to the running animation. When players break stride or, conversely, accelerate into a full sprint, they kinda lean forward weirdly and start pumping their arms wildly. It looks borderline ridiculous to me.

The Ugly
It's very early days, gentlemen, but I found the AI defense very difficult to break down because the AI defense plays more competently; HOWEVER, I was blown away by how my AI teammates on the attack were just as dumb as they were in previous years. They stood literally flatfooted with very little help to the man in possession while failing to go on runs and yes, I noticed what ezio and 4EverBlowingBubbles both mentioned - the midfield is No Man's Land, where you only travel to lose possession.

I feel less excited this year than in any other, yet I'm arguably more intrigued that I've ever been about FIFA. This is NOT your pacewhore's FIFA and I really do look forward to seeing how this will all work in the full presentation, in particular within a Career Mode.

# 60 BezO @ 09/11/13 01:11 PM
What I always liked about PC mods, from vids at least, is that in and around the box was more cluttered than the console versions. Way too much space around the box on console versions.

Has this been addressed? Are midfielders getting more involved in and around the box?
