Madden NFL 25 News Post

It appears, on the surface at least, fans are no longer happy with the Madden status quo.

EA Sports reported sales of just over 1 million copies of Madden in its first week on store shelves. While EA was touting the success of Madden NFL 25, those sales numbers are down significantly from last year's number of 1.65 million in the same time span, a nearly 40% drop in sales.

The obvious culprit does seem to be many gamers are holding out for next-gen Madden, which makes a lot of sense. However, with incentive programs to upgrade to the next-gen game around and being touted by EA, it also does seem a large chunk of consumers simply are tired of Madden's current form and waiting for something new.

This puts even more pressure on the next-gen product to deliver a new and unique experience to the series, as fans are likely looking for that with the new game. However, for a year at least, it is likely the next-gen version of Madden will be a huge seller when the new consoles hit store shelves in mid to late November.

They will probably sell 1 million for next gen. Most publishers would love to have a franchise that can have these kind of numbers.

I'm happy with 2k making NBA and only NBA. 2k ruined baseball and NHL so whoever thinks football will be mind blowing isn't thinking straight . The original guys with visual concepts are long gone.

Im waiting to see what next gen madden actually plays like. Because there's no way I'm gonna use their trade in deal. Cause if I understand it right, you get to trade in this gen madden for next gen madden and ony pay $10. So you basically your paying $70 for a $60 game

This is the best way for them to listen to us, hurt them in the wallet! Somebody's job is on the line over there at Tiburon. O well, serves them right!

Bring back CPU vs CPU in connected career!

Well 2k had a monopoly on baseball. But I think we would have had a crappy mlb game even if MVP was still out there. Madden was my preference even when 2k was still out there

I'm saying, in my opinion Madden would still be the same game with or without competition

...uh,no they didn't...2k's agreement only eliminated 3rd party development..why do you think Sony was able to have a baseball game?...hell,Microsoft could have put a game out as well if they wanted to...the deal had absolutely nothing to do with 1st party development of a baseball title.

My apologies....don't wanna derail this thread any longer.

**On topic**

I just think it's a combination of factors....next gen,GTAV and overall folks are tired of the "same ol' same ol'.

If I had to take a guess...I would bet it's more due to GTAV coming out here soon more so than next gen...but it is really hard to say either way.

So because of new gen, that's the reason why M25 didn't do well?

While I agree competition is a good thing...
The Show hasn't had any real competition for a while and they keep getting better.
A lot has to do with the talent level and pride.

If they turned it into NFL Blitz or something then it wouldn't be less sim?

NBA 2K and The Show are much more sim for their respective sport and those games are doing well.
If Madden can do sim right then people won't be complaining as much, Run Free, the new blocking, and IE seems to be well done sim elements in the game that they can build on. Now they need to focus on defense and build on what they have now maybe theirs hope for this franchise.
While I generally agree with the things you've said on the boards, I have to disagree here. I think more sim would not be boring. The fact is, a lot of people watch football and don't call it boring. If we can watch a game, playing the game should be less boring. They should stick with sim.

The big thing here is obvious. These guys are making a video game, not a football simulation. Whether its the big wigs, lack of talent to develop a good game, or whatever reason, it needs to go. Madden us trash and likely beyond repair. This is why we need EA to fail.

Yes, if EA goes away, we may not get a football game in the next 3 years that's awesome, however, over the long run, it would be beneficial than to just keep hoping Madden will get its act together.

So yeah, this game needs to have horrible sales, and we can only hope they lose exclusivity, or they realize the direction they are going in is off....

Nonetheless, something is said about a company that IGNORES ANYONE who says there are problems. I haven't seen EA acknowledge anything others than online freezing. Terrible company, I hope they go bankrupt, we need justice in this world more than we need another sub-par madden to please the "casual gamers" that only care about video games and not FOOTBALL.

P.S. I believe we could achieve both casual and sim satisfaction with proper gameplay and sliders. I'm not saying only sim should be happy, I'm saying we can all be happy if they cared.

excellent news!

i have bought every Madden from 2005 onwards.

till now.

frustrated by legacy problems and reviews that basically said changes were mere tinkering, i held out.

i'm glad many other one-time Madden fans are doing the same: vote with your dollar. until EA suffers financially, they have no reason to change it up.

if you do feel the need to get the new game, buy it used. don't support an organization that refuses to make major changes to a significantly flawed product.

You are paying $10 to rent the game for more than 2 months, you can't beat that kind of deal.

It's not for those who can wait it out until November 15/22, its for those who want to play the game now. How people don't understand this concept is beyond me.

# 115 24 @ 09/08/13 06:28 AM
Can't say I'm surprised. Madden used to be one of the most well produced games out there and now it's less then stellar. We all remember the Golden age of Madden during the 2004-2008 Period. The games back then were seriously great. Then Madden just started to slowly regress and now it has come down to this.

# 116 DBMcGee3 @ 09/08/13 12:04 PM
Wow, seeing this headline makes me smile. Hopefully sales will decline enough for the NFL to reconsider giving EA an exclusive licensing deal. Death to monopolies!

# 117 pistolpete @ 09/08/13 12:52 PM
Madden hasn't changed in years. Connected careers was stupid and confusing and barely worked. That did me in.

# 118 braves_94 @ 09/08/13 05:19 PM
I think Connected Careers were made with the next generation in mind. I'd rather them break it out and work out bugs now, then to do a complete face lift for the next gen. Or they completely scrap it, and bring it back in 6 years as a new feature.

I will say this, Madden 10 was the last good game they produced, ironically made by the old dev team. Since then EA has been listening to this sim gamer bunch and everything on field has suffered. Remember when physics was supposed to be the savior of this franchise? If they only had it in, the game would be instantly better than 2K and FIFA. It wasn't. Sad to think with everything that crowd wanted in, Madden 25 is nothing compared to Madden 10. I think the crowd they constanly pander to now, is the same crowd destroying it. Just get back to making a fun game. I don't care abou the amount of plays you get in a game compared to real life. I don't care about how the pace mirrors real life.

Commenting on CC I really hate the mode. Franchise mode was so much better executed then this whole Connected Careers Idea. Maybe chalk it up to my own personal preference but I don't think Connected Careers was the right direction in the series.

You have to wonder if the NFL is eyeing this impending GTA release and saying, hmmm, maybe we can up the ante here.

As much as I'd like to see 2K and TTWO back in the NFL game, I'd much prefer a non-exclusive license. That way we can maybe see another golden age like in 2005, instead of this dark age we are in now.
