NBA Live 14 News Post

In an exclusive interview over at Review Fix, Sean O'Brien sat down to discuss NBA Live 14, the expectations surrounding the product, and competition with 2K.

"Do you have a really tall ladder?" O'Brien said in response to a question about the expectations surrounding the product, "We place high expectations on ourselves and hold each other accountable to create a game that aligns with our vision for the franchise."

While no new feature type of information was divulged, there was also an interesting tidbit from O'Brien on the competition with 2K Sports, "Our focus right now is to make a great basketball video game. We aren't going to sacrifice our vision just to check feature boxes on the back of a package."

O'Brien went on to say that he wants Live 14 to be remembered as a great basketball video game -- a huge bar to raise for a series which has had trouble making it to market much less impressing fans. However, we expect to see a lot more from NBA Live 14 very soon and can't wait to see how the product ends up.

NBA Live 14 will be released on launch day on both next-gen consoles. That's November 15 for PlayStation 4 users and November 22 for XBox One users.

and i know we've all seen the dribbling tech demo. If the game plays and moves like this during 5on5 action, and they have core bball fundamentals down, then i dont see why this game cant be good.

The movement looks fantastic compared to where live used to be

How do you know it's so far ahead?? I've been blocking shots fine in 2k for years and now you can block dunks. When was the last time you played a new basketball game from EA? Not basing EA at all, but 2k clearly won on this gen and we've yet to see really anything about next gen from either. Let's just chill and choose when real info is released and showed.

This is a great way to differentiate players (in terms of dribbling and movement), something 2k doesn't offer, dribbling looks and feels the same with every player.
Hey what EA says and what they deliver is two different things sometimes. They revamped the Madden engine and we see how that went smh. Live could nail it, but I'm waiting to see it and play it first. If they fool any of us this time, all shame is on us.

My only thing is, so far, they are all about a single game or season experience. They haven't come right out and said it, but this game sounds barebones. Problem is, I'm all about Association on 2k. I don't play online. They did this with Live 07. And they thought they were fooling the Franchise types with Madden last year. If this game has no traditional franchise, I have no interest. I wish they would just go ahead and let the cat out of the bag. Konami had to let the cat out of the bag with PES and only having 20 stadiums and no rain.

That said, I would just prefer them to state what this game will and won't have. I think it would suit them well. Especially in light of the way the series has been handled the last three years. Then gamers like myself can make an educated choice. If it's not fully equipped, I'll see you next year. No harm, no foul. I'll appreciate you not spinning me with marketing jive and will keep you on my radar. Spin me like all of your previous comrades did, you've killed any chance. Just sayin.....

Wait, no info regarding a crew or my team have been announced for Live, so how can you say they wont implement such a mode? Live 14 will have legends, therefore I'm sure they will include Ultimate Team

A few months ago they stated this will be a fully featured title.

Here's a list of the other additions their adding to the game. So I'm assuming there's a franchise mode featured for this years addition as well. The transparency the team is showing this year is something we haven't really seen from the NBA Live franchise. Usually they're all about the features and marketing, but right now they're basically saying we want to prove to you that we're legit. They also said that we'll have a chance to get our hands on the game beforehand (Gamestop maybe?).

So far they've proven to be on the positive side of the spectrum, and according to this article the 5 on 5 is completely rebuilt. So we'll have to wait and see.

Personally, I think we'll get a solid basketball game that isn't really heavy on features at least this year anyway.

Thanks. Hadn't seen that. Even if it's not as deep as Association, I could do with it. I loved Live 10. Last few years have found me really loving 2k. I play PC, so it's a pretty good experience, with mods and all. I'll be honest. I have next to no faith in this game, so far. I love Fifa more than anything, but Tiburon's efforts have left me with a fairly bad taste in my mouth towards EA in general. I have no interest in Madden. And marginal interest in NCAA, simply because I'm thinking it's the last one ever. All that said, I really need to be shown they are for real. I agree about them wanting to be transparent. But we have seen no gameplay videos or had full features confirmed.

It's almost as if they are once again trying to beat the deadline to ship. And that says, to myself, it's not quite right yet. Color me jaded, but it seems this scenario is vaguely familiar. When it comes to this game, I'm from Missouri!

I'm actually going to remove this game from my preorder for PS4 and wait for chatter on the internet about it, as well as 2K14 for it. I'll be off that day waiting for my delivery so I'll keep checking the net then see if I wanna run out that day and pickup either one or both.

What is that? Besides a good intro(except when the show Mario's close up and no one else is on the floor), the game moves like the players are on PSX. The sound effects on the rim are terrible and almost non existent. Back to the close up, I noticed this in Madden too, when some players celebrate a TD, why is there no single player on the field when the camera circles around?

My money is already on Next Gen 2k14 but I will get Live 14 also if it proves to be a solid alternative.

They haven't said anything about crew and my team not being include on next gen. Also we now nothing at all about how 2k14 and Live will play on next gen.

Live14 nor 2K14 have barely told us anything about their Next-Gen product so I don't get how ANYBODY can vouch for any of the 2 YET

Looks great, but it doesn't impress me until I see it in a game scenario.

Threads like these is why most veterans don't post anymore. We turned a complete Live 14 thread into a 2k is great thread.

First off this interview was about Live and what direction it will take going forth. I think overall Sean O'Brien is saying a lot without saying much.

They acknowledge the faults in previous games, of course by other developers but overall as an EA project. They have main focus points that will be selling points and he discusses those areas.

He's not saying that other features won't be there as well, but for right now the physics engine has improved and allow them to do things not only mechanically to the animations but also with incredible physics.

Also we already know the graphics will be much improved, because EA has never had an issue with thicker detailed graphics. But the new artist are definitely focusing on player face details...

The crossover and bouncetek demo with Kyrie in the gym looked smoothed and very impressive. I don't see why those physics would change with 5 on 5.

Remember the practice Gym in Live 06 through 08 and NCAA Basketball series. The animations didn't change in game, so why would this be any different. Use common sense instead of fanboy hatred for the series.

Live 10 even with less animations, was still a more fun game online and offline than 2k10.

The Dynamic DNA was great and also was Dynamic season, I know they will rename it and call it something different this year, as they've already spoken about Synergy returning with their stat overloads, etc.

From the minimum they shown us and the many interviews, I'm optimistic, but I won't doubt that it will be good. M25 and NCAA14 were pretty solid with they new engine. I can see basketball being just as smooth if not surpassing them on the Next Gen consoles.

I will wait untill some actual gameplay from both games to see what I will do, I may end up giving live a chance for the first year of next gen.
