Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 News Post

PES European Community Manager, Adam Bhatti has confirmed PES 2014 will not have a stadium editor or rain implemented in the game this year.

Due to exclusive agreements with EA, many of the major European stadiums, including all of the Spanish stadiums have been removed. Since the news came fairly late to the PES team, roughly 20 stadiums will be available when the game ships.

How does this impact your decision on purchasing the game?

No Spanish stadiums. That hurts.

It's only a matter of time before EA pushes PES out with licenses exclusivity deals. No doubt EA will splash the cash when it's time for the UEFA CL to be re-competed.

With Stadium Editor being gone it's a big hit against the console option file community. I imagine that the fake leagues will be the next to go.

not having rain isn't a big deal to me but the stadium issue seems like it can have a more negative impact. I hope they at least put in some generic stadiums that we can rename.

Next year we probably won't have any edit mode. Damn

I believe I read that 6 of the 20 are generic. So possibly 14 real, 6 generic in total.

thanks. I didn't see that.

A bit off topic , but looks like a custom camera is in this year. Heck yeah. If there's one thing I love about FIFA, it's the custom tele camera.

I haven't read any of the articles. Do they indicate what the hell happened to the stadiums? Wasn't it just last year's version that added all 20 Spanish stadiums, and now they're mostly all gone?

This issue however is not something technical, it actually due to licencing. EA have been extremely aggressive with signing deals with clubs and leagues this year, and it has meant we can't implement major European stadiums, including NO Spanish stadiums. People were getting worried when they announced exclusive deals with Spanish teams. Well it turned out it meant we couldn't implement their stadium, amongst others.

Wow! I never counted the real stadiums in '13, but it must have been at least 30(?), and now '14 will have roughly 14. That's extremely disappointing, to say the least. I find it hard to believe EA will actually include all the stadiums in their game that PES is now excluded from. From what I understand, EA usually only adds 1 or 2 new stadiums per year(?).

Take the ball and go home so no one plays syndrome

Giving us an editor opens up endless possibilities. This is how you counter features that are missing.

I will buy PES 2014 so I can contribute more funds for them to purchase more licenses.

Pretty much EA's actions. They just want a monopoly on sports games and who can blame them when they have a possibility to bring in tons of money yearly. It is great for them and stinks for us consumers. With the way PES 2014 looking this year I am sure EA is watching them closely and will be looking to remove any fighting chance in the future for PES to make any dent in their sales.

EA has announced three new stadiums so far: Nou Camp is back (it wasn't in 13), Goodison (where Everton Play), The Bombonera (where Boca Juniors plays) and there are rumors there are more. Yes, EA is grabbing Europe since Konami is focusing so much on Asia.

Still gonna buy PES 14, it's the better soccer game. FIFA is too arcade for my tastes.

So, EA also got the exclusive on Rain? Did they make a deal with God for that one?

# 17 BROman @ 08/28/13 11:52 PM
Ouch, the stadium editor is one of my favorite things about PES.

# 18 lord_mike @ 08/29/13 01:10 AM
So, now stadiums get exclusivity? Maybe in Europe. The United States says that you can't trademark or copyright architecture. This is really amazing that it's gotten this far. Isn't there some sort of antitrust law somewhere that could do something about this?

# 19 Simple Mathematics @ 08/29/13 01:11 AM
I understand why they had to remove the stadiums- because EA bought the rights to them. I don't understand why they got rid of the stadium editor though. You would think they would leave that in since they had to get rid of some stadiums.
