So I have to ask.
On the higher difficulties, do the CPU controlled players play according to their attributes?
Or do we still see 4th liners sniping goals and threading needles?

Skating is much more fluid.. scored with 10 seconds left on a deke by Kane.. I'm glad they are easier now.

Fights are pretty cool, you can't just fight anyone.

The presentation and all are the same, but the skating is definitely much more fluid.

Ok just played first game, I was Bos. Ok the game is good so far. Skating felt great. First play that occured Kane tried the Cpu rap around and I killed him with Chara no goal great hit. AI does stay in place I even noticed Hjalmarson cycling in low on offense for the hawks.

So I figured big whoop new fights... Boy was I wrong they are fun and some spontaneuos others not. Had two fights in first game. Wow Wow Wow Fun Fun Fun. Looked and played right.

Both fights were kinda random pairings however. First Loui Erickson fought Seabrook I lost but it is fun. Erickson had clearly visible bruises on his forehead after the fight.

Second up I hit Toews with bergeron kinda late and kinda a double team. We dropped. I lost again but not by mutch for the second time.

In the end I was standing and chanting fight. So way to go EA you may have brought some life back to the game.

Watching Kevin's demo gameplay video in the media thread, I saw two instances of impossible across-the-body one-timers from the point (one @ 3:10 on the goal). While the shots are somewhat weaker than a properly executed one-timer, they're still far too powerful.

There's no way to get that kind of speed on a shot from that shooting position. In tight, you can re-direct a puck using the speed of the pass -- I think that's what the animation is intended for -- but from the outside it should trigger a stop & shoot animation that requires the D-man to turn his body.

Which we saw in NHL07. Still not sure why those animations were taken out.

.
Yeah, I reacted on that same shot. Way to hard for being a shot delivered like that.

I want those animations back so badly. Just make my guy stop and adjust to corral the pass or even take it in the skates and kick it up to his stick so I can chip it down low or pass it back. Don't let me take some wacky looking one-time shot.

Does the AI support better defensively during boardplay?

i played 2 3rd periods position locked to the Blackhawks RW's.

played on superstar hardcore simulation..

the CPU teammates seemed to play better than in prior versions. in better position and acted as the CPU team did.

also seems as if they toned down letting you call for the puck. or you have to be in better position to do so. a few shifts i was away from the play and my guy wouldn't even respond, no stick tapping.

CPU's puck movement on the PP was really good. Boston set up Iginla for 3 one timers in a row. 2 missed the net the other was deflected out of play.

Too easy to zig zag skate all over the ice... no more turning radius ? Seems like they took out what they added last year as far as skating, dekes to easy, IMO... this game is not going to be fun online. Still not enough sepration between players. Anybody can deke LOL... Not worth $60. I'll be skipping this year but not soley due to the demo, an option I needed to have is not in the game again this year... 20/42/82. Good luck guys have fun with game see you on next gen nhl15, maybe.

Does anybody knows if the game will have the option to play a shortened season? Last year we could only play an 82 game season. I want to be able to play a 30 game season or i know i wont complete ANY season...

good commentaries Fiddy and the rest of you guys..... i MIGHT CHANGE my mind in not exchanging my 360 and get this game. since i cancel my LIVE Gold (im getting PS4) i cannot d/l this demo.

i'll keep watch after EA release this game and see if they are true to their words.

by the way...how about the presentation.....is it better compare last year's demo?

compared to last year, they upped the skating speed. even the default online level. went from 3 to now 4. they also upped the acceleration from 3 to 5.. i wonder if we make those changes in NHL 13, if the skating will feel the same as in the NHL 14 demo. my guess will be YES. hence making it easier to zig zag around the ice. also, fatigue recovery and fatigue effect have bumped up on default level as well compared to last year. this effects the zig zagging! LOL.. cant wait to try that out later.

edit -

i couldn't wait, tested it. same feel in NHL 13 with the adjustments 14 made in the demo. hilarious! not exactly 100%, but the "feel" is there. the animations etc seem much better with the skating in 14, but the feel of it is there on 13. LOL

I enjoyed the hell out of the demo in the one play now game. I just did all star level and loved it. I may not be as good as most of you, but it felt way different than last year and the $60 will be well spent and entertaining for me.

Downer...
scoring the go-ahead-goal during SCF is one of the biggest thing in sports....if it's in the game....EA put it in the game please. It's already in the past NHL...why remove this type of celebration?
