MARCO DI VAIO BECOMES THE FIRST ATHLETE VOTED INTO THE 2013
AT&T MLS ALL-STAR GAME THROUGH EA SPORTS FIFA SOCCER 13
Di Vaio Scores 73,838 Goals in Seven Days To Join All –Star Fan XI
For the first time in any professional sports league, fans used a videogame to determine an athlete participating in an All-Star game. Electronic Arts Inc. and Major League Soccer (MLS) today named Marco Di Vaio, from the Montreal Impact, the AT&T MLS All-Star “In the Game” forward. Di Vaio was voted to the All-Star Fan XI by fans around the world playing EA SPORTSTM FIFA Soccer 13, who from July 3 to July 10 scored as many goals as possible with 26 eligible MLS forwards. One goal equaled one vote. Fans scored 73,838 goals with Di Vaio to make him the final player on the All-Star Fan XI. Through general voting via MLSsoccer.com, text message and Twitter, 10 other players have already been named All-Stars.
"I am very proud and honored to be the first ever player selected to the MLS All-Star team by the millions of FIFA Soccer 13 players around the world,” said Marco Di Vaio.” I would like to thank all those fans around the world who played FIFA 13. I am proud to represent the Montreal Impact as an MLS All-Star."
Finishing second behind Di Vaio in the AT&T MLS All-Star “In the Game” challenge was Robbie Keane, from the Los Angeles Galaxy, with 69,797 goals. In total, 488,611 goals were scored with eligible MLS forwards in FIFA Soccer 13 during the challenge.
