NCAA Football 14 News Post

Kotaku has posted their NCAA Football 14 Ultimate Team preview.

Quote:
There will be real football players, using their real names, in the debut of NCAA Football Ultimate Team this year. They just won't be anyone suiting up on a college football field this fall.

A deal with the NFL Players' Association gives NCAA the rights to use up to 2,500 current NFL stars, pictured in their alma maters' uniforms, and build a pool of virtual trading cards just as large as Madden Ultimate Team, where the collection-and-player-management game has been running since 2010.

Yes and no. Paying real money gets you to the finish goal faster, but you can compete just fine if you know how to save coins/collections and what not. It takes longer, but it's not that hard to do. Also, you are normally pitted against people of your team level, so you won't be having team overall of 83 facing a team of 95.

If you're going to tout the fact that this year's focus was the run game, I expect the running motions to look real and not like they currently do. That's not asking a lot for them to deliver on what they're trying to sell us.
No one is forcing you to. NCAA will never reach your expectations considering it's current market and the amount of crowds it caters to. That's all I am saying. No need to rage about it when it comes out. Just learn to enjoy it for what it is.

Any word whether teambuilder will work in this mode or not? that's the only way I'll mess with it at all. And I agree with IlluminatusUIUC I have no interest in playing in a stadium with another teams branding all over the place either. Those two issues are what keeps me from playing Madden's version as well.

I understand why they added this mode and it makes more sense to me now that I see how it works. Unfortunately I have no personal interest in this so it is another mode in a long line of added modes for NCAA that have been a waste (for me anyway).

The most I've played any of these modes was one game of UT in NHL '12. But every company loves more greenbacks, right? Apparently these modes are pretty popular. I'd be curious to see how many people actually play UT--obviously a poll of this forum might be underwhelming.

I'm not going to complain about this mode because obviously some people like it alot. I personally don't like the idea of mixing and matching random players and then playing a game with them because I like to "sim" real world football when I play a game. Not just in football either.

I never saw the appeal of putting Larry Bird on the 2012 Memphis Grizzlies in NBA 2K either, because it totally breaks the narration. Only way I could play it is if I made up in my mind that scientist have built time machines (that they for some reason use for basketball fantasy games).

I do realize that some people like it and that it offers re-playability so that's cool. It's just irksome that some other things that are in every other sports game, like in-game saves, go overlooked for years.

I will say I think it would be fun if NCAA or Madden added a fantasy football league to dynasty/franchise. I play FF every year in real life so it would be a nice touch if they had one represented in the game. A game within a game within a game lol.

I could foresee a ton of problems with online dynasty if there ever was a FF league tagged on though.

I haven't seen anything mentioning teambuilder, so I would highly doubt that it would be integrated in this mode. Although it would be a nice alternative to the random uniform/mascot/stadium cards

Words can't express how much I detest all UT modes.

This feature holds zero appeal to me. I will never use it and likely never even look at it. I never bothered with it in Madden, either.

Man, this sux monkey-ballz. Yet another feature that I will not spend 1 second using. I guess the only positive is that at least this feature is not forced upon me like JTS, Hit Stick, Aggression settings, etc.. are. The only good part about this feature is the ability to ignore it.

Sure wish all efforts went into game play.

It seems like a solid fit with the game. They already had the code from Madden, and own the licenses to use the players names.. so why not. I doubt this took too much away from the rest of the design of the game, but who knows.

I do fear this will turn into a pokemon situation where kids feel they have to collect them all, charging up mommies credit card to do so. I do like the option to buy\sell\trade, and hopefully battle online for either a rare, or random card in the deck.

I may check it out after I finish my RTG and dynasties. It could be the missing key for long term replay-ability. I know I play hardcore for a month or two, then forget about the game until about a month before next years game comes out.

I'm sorry but this is the second time I've seen this compared to pokemon cards. Are we really to the point that kids have no idea about sports trading cards anymore? I can't be that old can I?

I am 34 and almost went with Magic the gathering, but I figured I would cater to a younger crowd. I honestly never played pokemon at all. I did collect a ton of baseball, basketball, and football cards, but this game doesn't have the feel of that because there were years and hundreds of thousands to collect all of them. With only having ~2500 to collect it would be more like a pokemon\magic situation.

can someone please take the time to explain what this mode is and exactly how it works. because the way im looking at it i just dont see any appeal for it. yet i keep hearing how ppl enjoy the mode, so i must be missing something.

so i get the fact of collecting cards, ala topps and such, but after that i am lost as to what is going on with this mode. please break it down child style. also i never played pokemon or magic the gathering.

NCAA Football 14 Looks much more improved than 13. Being Number 3 in sales is not bad and it's Selling way better than the Basketball series ever did. NCAA Football series is the best made Football series in my opinion. The Ultimate Team will just improve and revamp what already is a great fun quality Football game. Plus fixing up the run game and blocking is what was needed and a practice where it helps you play the game also a good addition. Excited for this game. Good job so far EA.

You get a pack of cards. These include cards for players, stadiums, uniforms, mascots, and skills(?). The cards you get, will be the players on your team, you will play at the stadium for the card you have, wear the uniform that you have a card for and your mascot will be the one you have a card for. With this random combination of a team, you can play single games and challenges to earn credits that can be used to "purchase" more cards to build your team. There is also a season mode where you can pit your team against an online league of guys doing the same thing.

If this helps sales and keeps the NCAA series viable for the long-term, I am all for it, even if I rarely play it.

so its not just a simulation thing? you actually can play on the field with the players on your cards just like you would a normal game? so basically its just a fancy way of desrcibing a college football fantasy draft?

also what do you mean by "purchase"? is this in game money or actual money

Yeah, that pretty much sums it up

Purchasing with in-game credit but you will be able to buy more credits with real money, not that it will be required at all.
