FIFA 14 News Post

Owen Good has penned an excellent piece asking the pertinent question when it comes to the inclusion of women in the world's most popular sports video game of 'if not now, when?'

This all comes after a petition caught the publishers eye and a promise to include women in future editions was somewhat made.

Quote:
"It's noteworthy still for a couple of reasons: The addition, in 2011, of women players to EA Sports' NHL series (in their Be a Pro mode, and as an option in creating players elsewhere; two women also were included on a roster of all-time greats last year). And this year also saw, for the first time ever, the LPGA and one of its major tournaments included in a golf video game for consoles. And it's noteworthy because women's soccer is, as a participation and a spectator sport, more popular than women's golf or hockey."

What do you guys think? Is it time for women to be included within FIFA?

lol oh no you called me a hipster ;_;

my whole point was that nhl and tiger woods introduced professional women athletes and tournaments recently and womens soccer is demonstrably "more popular" than womens hockey and golf. somehow the world survived the women in the nhl series being playable in the career mode (with men omg!!!) and the idea of a woman golfer winning the masters in tiger woods. they don't even have mls right in fifa 13; i doubt anyone is clamoring for professional leagues right off the bat, just an international team or two. this is not some unprecedented, deep dark territory for ea. they literally introduced and implemented the concept in two other franchises already.

besides, if ea only cared about ~maximum profits~ in this capitalistic paradise you've crafted in your head they wouldn't actually even bother with the manpower and costs of improving the game even slightly year to year and fifa 08 would be indistinguishable from fifa 13.

Not really, since it's not the same thing at all. WNBA is its own league with its own union. Making an NBA game doesn't mean the WNBA should be included. Women's soccer, on the other hand, is overseen by FIFA, and its professional players are members of FIFPro. Same as the men.

I'm not saying women need to be included, since as with all leagues it depends on whether or not it would be worth the resources spent to do it, but equating it with NBA/WNBA is daft.

As for the question at hand, if EA comes out with a FIFA WC Edition for 2014, that would be the perfect time to unleash this. Having the option to play the Mens or Womens WC would be awesome.
Yikes. Adjust your sliders to 0 (shot speed , goalkeeping ,acceleration etc) and maybe you could get close to the womens game. Please make it a seperate game and don't screw up my Fifa!

You guys seriously don't give Women's Soccer the credit it deserves. Are you guys really not aware that Women's Soccer is the cure for insomnia?

I have watched women's games before. I watched the USWNT against Brazil in the 2011 World Cup. And that game was every bit as exciting as a men's game. There is no denying that the women's game CAN BE as exciting as a men's game.

But there's a big difference. I am a fan of the USMNT and Manchester City. I watch them play almost every game, and it's exciting. I watch the USWNT play whenever they do and the game is exciting, but it's because I have a rooting interest. I can't watch the Canadian and French women's teams play against each other. But I can watch Arsenal and West Brom play against each other. There's your difference.
